They're still searching for survivors after yesterday's
deadly high-speed train collision in Spain.
At least 69 people have died.
Fox's Jeff Paul has more from London.
Rescuers worked overnight searching
for victims following Spain's second fatal high-speed rail
crash this year. This is chaos.
I have my father and I don't know where he is. I hope to find him,
oh my lord. I don't want this to happen to anyone.
This is unbearable. Dozens of people were killed
when a high-speed train rear-ended a train
that was stopped on the same track Wednesday.
Some passengers described the scene as a, quote, massacre.
Carriage two, carriage one, all gone.
Spain's high-speed rail network is one
of the country's defining achievements.
It's the world's second largest after China's.
But with two deadly crashes in the same year,
it has left the nation wondering how this could have happened.
If we need to reinforce even more security to rebuild
the trust in our high-speed system, we will.
Spanish officials say the crash happened after several trains
in the area were forced to stop
due to a computer malfunction of the rail security system.
But minutes later, Central Command Center in Madrid took over
and told the Renfe train conductor
to resume travel again without speed restrictions.
That train ended up colliding
with the halted Iryo train roughly 15 miles ahead.
The decision to resume the circulation without
the system working again was a decision from the control center.
I say in circumstances that are inexplicable from our point of view.
Spain's prime minister is pledging
a full investigation into the collision
and its government has declared three days of mourning starting today.
