Everything is aligning PERFECTLY at once...

The Edmonton Oilers breezed past the Calgary Flames
on Wednesday night's Battle of Alberta,
which saw Connor McDavid doing more Connor McDavid things,
setting a new National Hockey League
record alongside some contributions from depth,
and not to mention a shutout for Tristan Jarry
before the Edmonton Oilers hit the road in New York,
first starting off against the New
York Islanders on Saturday.
Welcome back to Oilers Digest.
I am your host, Joseph Greco, and in today's video,
we're going to be first things first,
taking a look at the one and only Connor McDavid
who continues to do Connor McDavid things setting
a National Hockey League assist record
who is as he has now recorded an assist in every single game
so far this season so last night no different
for Mr. McDavid two assists two points plus one
with only 18 minutes 50 seconds time
on ice much better workload for Connor McDavid and yesterday's
four nothing win over the Calgary Flames
but the big storyline for McDavid is now collecting an
assist in every single game
so he's played 13 games he's collected an assist in all 13 games
so far this season and with that a new National
Hockey League opening assist record 13 straight
games with an assist joining some elite company
surpassing Sebastian Aho who set that record
not too long ago with a 12 game season opening
assist streak Connor McDavid with his 13th game
straight with an assist collecting it against
a division rival in the Calgary Flames so
yesterday was the Battle of Alberta always
a fun game between these two teams last night we saw
the Edmonton Oilers dominate at home in front
of their fans before they head out into the road
much much needed win in my opinion after suffering two losses
at home first against the Leafs and
then a shootout loss against
the Detroit Red Wings now one thing I do want to highlight about
yesterday's game was the time on ice share
was probably in my opinion the best we've seen
all season long some great work by Mike Babcock
to get everyone an even spread of time on ice
no one really had an insanely big workload
as you can see all those defensemen within the
you know one to two minute range apart from one another
and even the forward group
Connor McDavid not overworked in yesterday's win it's nice
to see that we're not overly reliant
or overly aggressive with how much we're playing these guys
because as i said not too long ago it
is an 84 game season and so you cannot rely
on McDavid, Bouchard, Draisaitl night in and night
out to put up 25 26 27 minutes i mean you're talking about half
a game per game so nice easy
win yesterday you take it
and you run obviously nice to see as i mentioned that good time on ice
spread and a nice performance by Tristan Jarry
to get a shutout against the Calgary Flames and
in response to yesterday's performance with those two assists
and making some NHL history
McDavid kept it calm and cool as expected saying all you want
to do is win the game and that came
first and foremost so despite the fact
that McDavid seems to be collecting some sort of record
every single night it's clear what his focus
is and the focus is on the team not surprised this
has always been Connor McDavid he is someone
who puts team first ahead of himself moving on I want
to take a look on that second line and a player
who has strung together now two strong games and
And that is Colton Dooly, who is building
his case to be a left winger for the remainder
of the season.
And thank goodness for this,
because I am someone who since game one has said Colton
Dooly is not a natural centerman at the National Hockey League level.
They continue to force him at center.
And I just didn't like what I was seeing from Colton Dooly.
I believe he does his best work on the wing.
And with the injury to Zach Hyman
and the return of Jason Dickinson to the lineup, it
now has allowed for Colton Dock to play on that left wing.
And that opportunity has really allowed him to blossom.
although no points in yesterday's game we're now
seeing two straight games where he's getting
a lot more time on ice and he's doing a lot
of work with that time on ice so as i mentioned
didn't get a point in yesterday's game was a plus one
but some good time on ice good doing a good
job getting his legs going being involved in the play
and creating chances for his team that is now
two straight games so obviously against the Detroit Red Wings
when he was moved to that left
wing immediately collecting two points Monday night Wednesday night
as i said uh already no
points but strong performance from him unfortunately
for him he is a little bit frustrated with the
situation where he did cause Devin Cooley
to leave the game in a post-game interview he did
indicate that he was just trying to make
a play crash towards the net and create a chance so
unfortunate play for Doc and Cooley in that regard for those of you
who are not aware Devin Cooley
was removed from the game after a collision with Colton Doc
so hope that Devin Levi sorry Devin
Cooley is okay and is able to make a recovery sometime soon.
With that said, before we move on,
I just want to say that they need to continue building him
on the wing and keep him on the wing.
Keep him beside Nugent Hopkins and Kapanen until Hyman
and Savoy return, and then you start to look
at your wings being a lot more deep than you had anticipated.
You could do a second line of Doc
with Nugent Hopkins and Hyman, or put him on third with Dickinson.
You could do Doc Dickinson and
Kapanen which in my opinion is a very valuable solid third line
so you start to see some options
you start to see that depth spread out you're looking
at put Colson Savoy Hyman Doc as wingers
obviously Kapanen as well even
though Kasper Kapanen in my mind has not really had the strongest
start to the season I think he does you know he
hasn't really contributed given the opportunity
that he's had in the top six and first power play unit
as I say that obviously he did score yesterday
but too far and few between for Kasperi Kapanen.
But anyway, back to Boris Goldendorff.
He's done a great job driving the net and winning puck battles.
So use this opportunity to try
and just earn yourself some more ice time
so that when everyone does get back and healthy,
you can prove to the coach that you are someone
who is a valuable player to the team.
Additionally, a very large takeaway and positive from yesterday's game
was Mr. Tristan Jarry getting a shutout his first of the season.
a much needed calm victory for Tristan Jarry
no controversy no problems no headaches no close
game no bad goal something that he really needed I said
in the last few videos his home record
since being traded to Edmonton has been abysmal he's had
a few rough games a few decent games
but no real great games yesterday a nice shutout to try
and gain a little bit of momentum
and confidence just as an individual
and as a team before you face the Islanders and the Rangers
on saturday and sunday night later this week
so a nice easy 24 save shutout for Tristan Jarry
very calm cool and collected in the crease
was it wasn't really overly challenged in my opinion but
at the end of the day making the saves is his job
and he did just that yesterday i think this kind
of game from him can sort of build some momentum
so as we can see here back-to-back quality starts
for Tristan Jarry obviously didn't get the results against the Red Wings
but it was a quality start
nonetheless a nice shutout yesterday
so now you're looking at you know four quality starts
in the last five to six games for Tristan Jarry
which is something to build on something to be
pleased with in terms of his play
and as I'm sure as an individual and as a team the coaching staff
as well are satisfied with the numbers
that they're seeing from Tristan Jarry again for the
most part this season has been good
not great I thought yesterday is a good way to kind of cap off
the homestand with a nice win
a nice shutout before again you hit the road and a lot of
positives taken away from the players
in yesterday's game Tristan Jari indicating that
he believes that the team did a good job
of keeping everything to the outside making it easy
for him to see the puck and make the saves this has
been kind of a reoccurring theme for the Oilers
where they've done a much better job
of not giving up too much in and around the net as the season
has progressed which is something
that I'm sure Mike Babcock has worked tirelessly and effort and
put in a lot of effort in and then Connor McDavid
backing Tristan Jari pretty much saying nah nah
And don't listen to him.
He made a lot of big saves early in the game and in the second period.
Nice to see everyone rally behind one another, support one another.
As this is, in my opinion, and as Mike Babcock has said,
it's a good confidence builder for the team and Tristan Jari.
Obviously, as a team, sometimes when you see,
I have a goalie that gives up a lot of weak ones,
although they will never admit it and never say it.
In my opinion, I do believe that sometimes in the back of your head,
you don't have the same confidence when you step on the ice.
And as a goalie, you definitely don't have
that same level of confidence.
so good shout out to build some confidence as an individual
and as a team as a whole you got
two interesting matchups against the Islanders
and the Rangers both teams kind of up and down
all season long so just get the wins
when you can especially on home ice so good way to close out
the home stand especially seeing
as how you get another contribution from your depth with Joseph
contributing his fourth goal of the season off
a nice feed from Connor McDavid and Jason Dickinson
returning to the lineup getting his legs going
with about 13 minutes time on ice and collecting
an assist and a plus one in last night's game
so good to see some depth contributions in that
regard good to see Jason Dickinson return getting
his some not heavy minutes but getting his legs
going again back-to-back Saturday Sunday you're going
to need everyone to step up especially
because Zach Hyman is now officially on the IR he
was dealing with some upper you know some neck
and head pain yesterday he got shifted to the IR
so obviously not ideal but good to see some
contributions from the depth players for the Oilers,
especially considering how just a few
days ago I said that this is going
to be a difference between them being a great team
and a good team. Just a few little details
before we wrap up today's video. The Oilers
with their win yesterday are now 7-0-0
when leading through two periods, which is a very,
very impressive stat. Tells me that once they're winning,
they're not giving up too much and they
are continuing to remain competitive.
They're not playing it safe. They're continuing to go out
and get goals something that I really really like I like
the team efforts when they're up after two
periods I think I haven't really seen
a game where you think oh gosh they're going to give this one
away so very positive in that regard as well
as I mentioned about 10 times this video the next two
games will be against the Islanders
and the Rangers this weekend so that is all I have for
you guys in today's video I hope you guys enjoyed let me know
your thoughts on yesterday's game
Tristan Jari's play also not to mention the play
of the D-core meaning maybe Jake Walman is going
to have to really earn himself a spot back in this lineup
and there is no guarantee that he is going
to be a regular going forward let me know
your thoughts down below in the comment section give
the video a thumbs up subscribe if you're new
and I'll catch you in the next video toodles
