New chapter of Beakerhead magnifies local talent in Petri Dish

This performance ushering in the return of Calgary's science festival, Beakerhead. Petri Dish by Beakerhead is a mash-up of science, arts and engineering. So it brings all of those topics together into a festival that's a celebration of ingenuity and local talent here in Calgary. The festival didn't happen last year. Organisers say they used the pause to plan and think about the festival's long-term future. And we wanted to make sure that what we're we're creating going forward is going to cut a swath of our own and tell science, arts and engineering stories in the best possible way that Spark can. This year there will be everything from a digital immersion rave and medieval armoured combat to science talks over beer at Brew Lab and the events partnering heavily with the University of Calgary. auroras in space, to artificial intelligence, dinosaurs, evolution, and oceans as well. So we have a whole host of different talks. The three-day festival starts next Friday. Dan McGarvey, CBC News, Calgary.
