James Kaufman, World News Report Today. Appointment to police review board after life sentence for executing teen girl was commuted by Democratic governor. In 1994, Carl Hedquist executed 19-year-old Nikki Thrasher. He received a life sentence without the possibility of parole. But that didn't stop far-left Democrat Kate Brown, Brown, the former governor of Oregon, from granting Hedquist's clemency in 2022. This was even after a 2022 letter from the Douglas County District Attorney's Office opposing the clemency and detailing the horrendous crime. Now, Hedquist was appointed to the Police Review Board in its sparking widespread outrage. You'd think. Hedquist was first appointed to the board in 2024 after he was released. It almost seems like these Democrats cause these messes on purpose. What a mess this is. Despite initially voting to appoint Hedquist, Salem City Councilor Vanessa Nordyke is now calling on the City Council to revisit the issue in January. She only changed her mind for one reason, which we'll soon talk about. Salem Business Journal notes that Salem Police Employees Union President Scotty Nguyen said, quote, This controversy is as much about the city's guide rails as it is about Hedquist himself, which means they're off the rails. The only reason Nordyke now wants to remove the killer from the board is that she is running against Mayor Julia Hoy for the mayoral position, and although she originally voted in favor of Hedquist's appointment, she now says he should be removed from public safety boards after hearing from the Salem Police and Salem Fire Unions. She is calling on the council to revisit the issue on January 12th. She gave the following statement, quote, The police and firefighters' unions each raised legitimate concerns that I hadn't fully considered, Nordic said in a statement. After weighing this new information, I realized I should have sought broader input before I voted yes, end quote. Ladies and gentlemen, what a sad situation these blue states are putting America in. And what a dangerous situation these blue Democrats are putting America in. You know, it almost sounds like a fake story.
