Suzan Schuttelaar Painter Netherlands 1974

Suzan Schuttelaar (born 1974 Netherlands) works on the edge of Gouda's city center. Her studio is located near the historic museum harbor.
You climb the stairs to the second floor and enter a space where creation and instruction take place. Filled with larger-than-life portraits and objects painted with human figures, hidden from view or connected by a multitude of threads. Through painting, you explore what lies beneath the skin. It must resemble something, but above all, it must bring something to the surface. Spatial, conceptual, and intensive work. It grates, unravels, and confronts.
Schuttelaar masters various genres, but considers herself above all a creative artist and strives to break free from the label of portrait painter. As a painter, she draws on several classical principles of painting, combining them here and there with the loose touch of Impressionism. Increasingly, she abandons the flat surface, and her work becomes three-dimensional. Each person inspires her in a personal way; each face has its own expression and history. Therefore, she strives to tell a story with each work, based on her individual interpretation. The human being remains central to her work. Above all, the work must be challenging to create, and it is often a lengthy and physically exhausting process.
There is so much more than a good likeness.
