AI GeneratedThe narrator spends a relaxing day in Singapore blending leisure with practical preparations for an upcoming trip to China. The journey features a visit to a specialty coffee shop in a traditional hawker center, reflections on the city's architecture, and a series of errands including tech upgrades and shoe repairs.
Good morning you guys and welcome to Singapore!
Now I have been traveling a lot lately
and I've been filming a lot and so I find myself
very tired.
So I came back here to Singapore just to see my dad,
sleep in a familiar bed and have a
little bit of downtime,
which means that today I do not feel like running around this island
like a crazy person taking off some really intense list
of all the best things to see,
eat and do.
Oh no, I am craving a chill day.
Now I don't really have a solid plan, I just have some
Some places saved on my maps that I have
been dying to check out forever.
I thought we could get some coffee, get some good food,
wander around, see some cool places
and just kind of see where Singapore takes us today.
So I don't know.
What do you think?
Want to hang out with me?
Have a really chill day in Singapore together?
Oh my god, you do?
Wow.
That is so nice of you.
I just really appreciate that.
Let's go.
Let's do it.
All right, for our coffee stop this morning,
there is one place I really want to visit.
It is called Coffee Collective.
It is meant to be this specialty coffee
and matcha store that is tucked inside a hawker center,
which is really cool because it's kind
of this modern experience in this really traditional setting.
The coffee is meant to be incredible.
Let's go and try it.
Ah, I'm going to miss the light.
Run, we've got five seconds.
Three, two, one.
I have no idea where it is.
We're just gonna cut a few laps and try and find it.
Okay, I'm just double checking the Google Maps. I mean,
there are photos posted from two months ago. Here, where is this?
What is it? Mia? Ernie, where is this? This, I want this. Where is it?
Okay, I just bought a treat for us to try
and I asked the lovely lady that works there and she said
Coffee Collective is right around this corner.
And there it is, the last place that you look,
always. So this is the main road where we are,
just for reference, main road.
I came up these stairs
and it's like this last row right at the back here over the main road.
So they do like traditional coffee O, coffee C,
which is like your traditional Singaporean coffee.
You should definitely try that. It's so good.
They do all specialty coffees. They do beautiful
matchas and then they have some really cool stuff
as well like sea salt cold foam. I don't know what
to get. I think we're gonna have
to try like minimum two things.
The girls that work here
They are so lovely.
Now in my mind, I was picturing some really long lines.
Hasn't been like that.
They're open from I think about 8.30 in the morning
till three in the afternoon.
So time your run accordingly.
I've got two things.
They are famous for their matcha.
So you know I had to get a matcha to try.
For those of you playing at home,
this is ceremonial grade.
And look at the color of that thing.
And apparently their strawberry is what they're famous for.
Now I also had to get a coffee.
Typically, I am excited
Exclusively a hot coffee girlie.
Except today it's extremely, extremely hot here in Singapore
and I'm inside a hawker center,
which is also a really hot situation.
I have got a Milo espresso latte.
Just let that sink in for a moment.
And I've got some snacks for us to try.
Let's start with the matcha.
Okay, you wanna swirl it a little,
cause I don't just want to get a mouthful
of strawberry syrup, you know?
I think that's my favorite matcha I've ever had.
That is my perfect matcha.
The strawberry syrup, it's not too sweet
and it actually tastes like strawberries.
Now the matcha itself is beautifully earthy.
It does not have that crazy grassy flavor to it that
you get when you're drinking crappy matcha.
This is incredibly high quality. It is beautifully
balanced. Based on that, this, my expectations are high babe.
Wow, the cops are there.
This is a crime being committed.
And the crime is that it's so good.
They're about to take all my money.
I didn't see this coming for us today.
I'm about to make a very bold statement.
Coffee Collective is officially
my favorite coffee shop in Singapore.
Milo espresso latte is exceptional.
Here's the thing.
It doesn't have a big, bold Milo flavor to it.
It's very subtle.
The coffee is beautiful.
Whatever beans they're rolling with in there, hot dog.
The cost of matcha and coffee has just gotten out of control.
You can easily pay an iced coffee
in Australia $12 a piece. Is that fair?
You want to be conservative about it? Fine. Let's say $9
a piece maybe for this.
The two of these is a grand total of $13 Singapore dollars and they
were more expensive because they were iced.
So if you've got the hot versions, they're even cheaper.
That is exceptional value.
Now for food, I want to try a little bit of food today. These are
Pancakes.
Maybe not a pancake that you're used to seeing,
but a pancake that I love.
They have a bunch of different flavors.
I've got two for us to try.
This is the coconut flavor.
And this is peanut, which has, surprise, surprise,
beautiful, freshly roasted, crushed peanuts in there.
It looks like maybe a little bit of sugar as well.
Let's start with the coconut.
Oh, that's so good.
The batter is just lovely.
It's so light, like a light, light crumb.
And then I love coconut,
so that sweet coconut filling inside is perfect for me.
Okay, let's try the peanut.
This is gonna go everywhere,
so I'm not gonna hold it back up.
That is exceptional.
It's the roastiness of it.
It's so freaking good.
And it's so juicy.
Like, look at that.
Doesn't it look like it should be a really dry time?
Like, you're just going to be gasping
in the Sahara desert for a bottle of water afterwards.
It's so juicy.
And dare I say it, moist.
Now, in terms of price, two pieces, $2.80.
This is why I get so frustrated because I meet people
and we will talk about Singapore.
And people will say to me, oh, I went to Singapore,
but I didn't really connect with it.
You know, I thought it was very cold.
I thought it was very expensive.
My love, you did not go to the right places.
And I understand how that happens to people
and it just makes me so sad
because I think Singapore is so beautiful
and there is so much culture to experience
and the people are so cool.
They're so friendly.
If you're rocking with them, they are rocking with you.
Singaporeans are so passionate about food
and they want you to try their food.
They want you to enjoy it.
So come down to a hawker centre, ladies.
Be bold, be brave, talk to people.
It's amazing.
And just experience something that's also not
It's not just authentic, but delicious.
The best food on the island goes down in these places
and it's so affordable.
Okay, now before we leave here,
we're gonna do a little bit of a lap
around the Tanjong Pagar Food Centre
and I'm gonna show you some things
that I think you should try if you come here.
I'm going to start with that one right there,
because they are serving up carrot cake.
There's no carrot in it, and it's not a cake.
I know. Hey, whoa. I know. It's confusing.
What's in it? Radish? Is that it?
It's a vegetable. It's a vegetable-based thing.
One of those root vegetables like that,
and then they cook it. It's got some egg.
It's got some goodness knows what on it.
You can get the white one or the black one.
It depends what you're in the mood for.
If I feel like something lighter, I typically would order the white.
If I feel like something a little bit heavier and sweeter
and a little more umami, I get the black.
Either way, incredible value. Like $4 a plate.
I would definitely make you get some fishball noodle
and then I would definitely make you
try some chicken rice as well.
This is like Singapore's iconic dish and look at those prices.
You can get one serve for $3.50.
So I'm going to give you a try of this, some hokkien prawn mee,
delicious noodles, and again, one serve, like, $5.
It's unbelievably well-priced.
This is the shop from our beloved pancakes that we just tried.
And if you like sweets, you want to try all of this kind of stuff.
Really yummy little sweets.
Thank you so much, so friendly.
All right, we've secured the sweets.
I cannot fit anything in, but he is so lovely and sweet.
We can try that a little bit later
once I get my appetite back, okay?
See what I'm saying?
Singapore is so lovely.
Don't be intimidated by the food courts.
Just get in there, guys.
What a great start to today, hey?
I absolutely love Singapore.
It is definitely a place that feels like home to me.
I went to school here.
My family have lived on and off here
for the last 26 years.
Crazy right? So I feel a real connection to the place
and there are so many things that I love
about it but one of the things I love most is the blend of old and new.
You're in this incredibly
modern fast-paced city and you can see all these huge skyscrapers
and modern restaurants.
There are a lot of really big businesses operating out of Singapore
and then you see a chicken.
We're running around.
You see these traditional markets
that people still shop at.
You see all these beautiful shop houses behind me,
all of that heritage feel.
And it really is that blend of old and new.
Also, if you're coming to Singapore
and you're not falling in love with it,
the beauty for me is in the detail.
Now, I love kind of historic, vintage kind of things,
and if you really look,
you will see some of that dotted around the city,
not just in the shop fronts,
but in the backs of places too.
So I'm just down a random alley.
There's this beautiful street art, for starters,
which is so cool.
We have skyscrapers and the heritage shop fronts
in the background there, but look at these.
Cool houses.
These, to me, look like they're from the 1920s,
maybe 1940s.
Look at those
Concrete spiral staircases.
You know, like a house being built today,
nobody would spend the time, energy, or money
on building a spiral concrete staircase
that sits out from the structure like that.
They're incredible.
And I love that Singapore does such a good job
of preserving that.
There are so many countries, including my own,
that might look to bulldoze something like that
and go, oh, well, let's just clear it
and make way for something new and modern.
I mean, look at the Gold Coast.
We lost so many.
Cool buildings, really cool, unique buildings
that were such a moment in time,
it can never be reproduced,
and they were just bulldozed from on high rises.
Well, okay, I'm about to get on my soapbox now.
Let me, let's pivot, let's pivot.
Okay, that little coffee shop
was the one and only plan I had for today.
What we are going to do is just walk around.
Let's see where the day takes us.
I actually have a couple of errands that I need to run.
I'm going to China on Monday. Talk about
that a little bit more in a minute. I'll tell you where
I'm going, who I'm going with, what the plan is,
all that kind of stuff. But I have a couple of
things I need to achieve before we go to China.
Some things I need to pick up. And guys, I have
a big problem. I have my favorite pair of shoes and they're broken.
I need to fix that because
these are like my favorite shoes.
They are so comfortable. They're great all-rounders and I
need them. So we need to find a shoe repair place.
Okay, so we are trying to find a random
guy on a random street corner
that I think I might have seen in this general location
once before many years ago.
I heard it, I just want to say it in its entirety so we can both
accept how ridiculous what we're doing right now is.
I think we can do it and if we can't find him
we need to find some other emergency shoe repair person
because I have got to get these shoes fixed.
It's like a really great treasure hunt.
Is this what you signed up for when you
subscribed to this channel? Were you like oh I
I can't wait for Phoebe to be on some ridiculous side quest
where she's trying to find a random shoe repair guy.
No, you signed up for fun travel vlogs?
Sorry, but this is my real life happening today.
Okay, this is definitely the street where I think I saw the shoe guy.
And if he's gonna be here, or she. Hey, shoe repair person,
2026. If they are going to be anywhere,
it's going to be on this corner here.
Just fingers crossed.
I think, I think this is where it happened. This is the corner.
There's something there,
but I can't quite see if it's open or what's happening.
Disaster has struck. This is the place I was thinking of.
I don't know what they even do here. I think it's shoe repair.
Freaking disaster.
I mean, I was right, I think.
So close yet so far.
Okay guys, pivot, pivot, we need to pivot.
I've put it into Google Maps.
The first result was like some really fancy
like Kingsman looking style shoe repair place.
That's not for us.
We want like just cheap, cheerful,
please just put some super glue in my shoe and let me leave.
I found that place.
It's right back where we just walked from.
Cool, so we're gonna get our steps up today.
Seven minute walk, seven minute walk.
It is hot out here too.
Hot, hot, hot.
I have some shoes that I need repaired.
This is our beautiful shoe repairman.
What was your name?
Calvin.
Oh, Calvin.
It's nice to meet you, Calvin.
Calvin's going to fix our shoes, guys, in one hour.
If you need your shoes repaired, this is the man to come see.
So I'm just using PayNow to pay, and I'm doing that using my Wise app.
It's just a little hack for you in Singapore.
I also use GrabPay sometimes, but this is really easy.
Received $10.
Paid.
It is 11:57. So we have until 1 to figure out what to do.
I'm thinking we should probably go
and eat something. I haven't really eaten today.
We just had those two bites of pancake,
a matcha and a coffee,
which explains why I'm so jittery right now. So I think let's
go get some real food in my body and try something delicious.
Okay let's play a little game called what
is bibi's favorite food in which you guess what is
bibi's favorite food if you said coffee yeah you get
a point for that if you said chocolate also a
good guess pastries uh-huh yep
but there is one food i pretty much live off of what is it pop it
in the comments pop in the comments
if you're right you get five stars you ready three two one bagels
Now when I was scooting around Google Maps,
looking for somewhere to eat, a bagel place
popped up.
Looks fantastic.
Now the food has
come out, looks
really good.
I wanted to get a bagel bite,
but I also really felt like something a bit more nourishing.
So we got the warm salad.
So it has broccoli, broccolini, sweet pea,
feta cheese, bagel chips, so we do get to
try the bagel.
Everything's seasoned, lemon zest, and it's apparently served warm.
Now I'm just going to be bold
and put some chili on right to start because...
Everything's better with chili on it.
We like spicy food.
How much is too much?
The limit doesn't exist.
All right, let's start with a bagel chip.
There's the chili.
I feel him.
This is like me on a plate.
I love broccoli.
Broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, all of the above.
Yes, please.
The broccoli is perfectly cooked.
It's nice and tender in the middle, but not sloppy.
The bagel chips are very obviously made from their homemade bagels.
And if they're anything to go by, a regular bagel,
toasted, whatever, would just be lovely.
Crisp, flavoursome, that little bit
of lemon zest on top just to freshen it up.
The feta is incredible.
Now, in terms of price, that salad was $15.40,
which I think is pretty good value.
Absolutely delicious, made fresh, lovely and warm, lovely and salty.
Love that char on the broccoli.
I am so full.
I know that was just a salad, but that really filled me up.
It was so delicious.
I really like that place.
Shmeared.
Cute.
All right, so it is time to go and pick up my shoes from Calvin.
But before we do that,
I need to stop somewhere
and pick up a couple of things for my trip to China.
Yes, I am going back to China. I am obsessed with it.
It has become one of my top two all-time
favorite destinations,
number one being Japan and China being a very close second.
Now, two things you need to know,
who I'm going with and where I'm going.
I'm going with a really good friend of mine.
His name is Larry. He is also from Brisbane.
We met maybe 10 years ago
because he's also a content creator.
So we just crossed paths naturally in Brisbane
and have been friends ever since.
But I haven't seen him in a really long time.
So I'm really excited to see him and travel together.
And in terms of where we're going,
everywhere, babe, we're going absolutely everywhere.
We're gonna be going to Guilin, Zhangjiajie,
Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Sichuan province.
We're going back to my favorite place in China, Chengdu.
I'm so excited.
And we're going to Chongqing.
Are you kidding?
I'm going to go to Chongqing forever,
that one I'm really hyped for, and then a couple
of other spots as well.
So we're going to be covering a lot of ground there,
and I am so excited to go.
It's not even funny, but like I said,
I need a couple of supplies first, so let's go get
that sorted.
Okay, we need to go in here to the Watson's.
If you have never had the privilege of being inside
a Watson's before, it is Singapore's
go-to drugstore, and I need a couple
of very specific things from in here.
Immediately overstimulated.
I had too much coffee today, I'm absolutely mad.
This is what I need.
I need these refillable bottles for travel.
Now, there was a time when I just didn't bother
with these things, and I was just carrying around
products with me, but I travel for so long.
And here's the thing, the bottles that my beauty products
come in are so heavy.
I just cannot carry that much around.
I travel full time, you guys, so I need these to distill.
Some of these bottles are glass, and they weigh a ton,
so I need these really light plastic ones.
They're actually pretty expensive,
like these are like $5 a piece which is a bit of a rip-off
but I need them.
I need them today.
I'm just gonna have to pay for it.
I feel like I could get them cheaper at a Daiso
or something but they just can't be
bothered.
So I'm just gonna pay the idiot tax.
What else I've purchased?
These things for your teeth, you know,
like you can get in between your teeth.
Spray hand sanitizer.
This one's my favorite, the Dr. Bronner's.
I get so sick when I travel
from like just picking up different bacteria and I travel
so much.
I have a very sensitive stomach.
I now spray like crazy.
I wipe down plane seats, I spray my phone, I spray my hands.
This is what I eat.
I'm just obsessive with this and it's helping me.
And this is a little treat.
This is just a lip gloss.
It's a nice pinky lip gloss.
Let's check out.
Go get these shoes.
Thank
you so
much.
Let's have a good day.
I'll see you again soon.
Bye.
Right, we're down at the MRT station here in Tanjong Pagar
because there's somewhere we need to go to check something out.
It's a very expensive, very big purchase,
but it might be essential to spend hundreds of dollars today.
Now I'm going to take you to my favorite place to buy tech
when I'm here in Singapore.
And the place we're going is called Funan.
Okay.
Our little adventure here to Funan was a raging success
because I have made a big commitment.
I bought the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro.
Now they have just come out with the 6,
I have purchased the 5 for two reasons.
The 6 is out of stock everywhere on the island and I need it now.
Tell you why in a second.
Two, this was so much cheaper
and the difference between them is minimal.
If I waited and gotten the 6,
it would have cost me about $720 Singapore dollars.
This bad boy cost me about $480 Singapore dollars.
That's incredible value.
And really the main difference is going to be low light capabilities
and I'm not going to be using it in low light anyway.
Now, typically when I'm vlogging, I...
I don't know what to say.
Typically, I always live in a...
DJI Universe, so this is you guys right now set up on my cute little
Osmo Pocket 3. I also have a little drone
which is also DJI and now I have the Action. So it made
sense to stay within the same DJI universe
because these little microphones that I use, they're going
to automatically sync with all the different devices
so it just makes my life easy. But the
reason I was impatient and wanted this now
is because we're going to China! Yeah! So I'm hoping
this is gonna make my filming life a whole lot easier.
I'm gonna be able to get more b-roll, more
action shots when it's raining like it was in Seoul.
I don't have to worry about risking my sweet little
Osmo.
And importantly, when I'm doing crazy things
in the Zhangjiajie Avatar Mountains and Guilin,
etc.
I'm going to be able to use this bad boy.
So also when I'm scuba diving.
I will be very honest in my reviews about
this because I paid for this with my own hard-earned
YouTube dollars.
So keep your eyes peeled in upcoming China content
for some sweet DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro
Footage.
And DJI, I'm obsessed with you,
so please sponsor me because I love you.
Alright, I think we have accidentally spent
today helping me get ready for China.
And I love that for me, and I want to say thank you
for coming on this journey with me.
And I think we've done such a good job that we deserve a sweet treat.
Alright, we are pulling up hot to my
favourite gelato shop in Singapore!
It's called Messina, it's actually from Australia.
And they have an outlet here now, there's usually a queue.
outside the door down into the street
if you come here in the evening but
it is 3:27
on a Friday. no queue. straight
in. all right now there is some
seating inside there if
it's really packed of an evening you'll
be very lucky to get a seat inside there in the nice
cool air conditioning. even
though there was a seat available i just kind of wanted to be
outside just so i could talk to you
with reckless abandon without ruining anybody's time.
now they do free samples so you could absolutely stand in there
and try everything but i
I'm a person that has a very standard order at the gelato shop.
I like to do two things.
I love a sorbet.
I love a dark chocolate and either a strawberry or a raspberry.
Today, I've gone for dark chocolate scoop on the bottom
and strawberry scoop on the top.
That, to me, is just the perfect thing.
Fresh, sweet tartness of the strawberry that cuts through it.
And for me,
Because it's sorbet and it's dairy-free,
I can eat more of it.
Mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm.
It makes me so, so happy.
Now, in terms of price, this is not cheap.
This is expensive.
This was $12 Singapore dollars for the two scoops.
If you are on a really tight budget,
this one's not for you, baby.
You could definitely get something absolutely delicious
like on the street or at a hawker centre.
My favourite thing is the guy who sells like the ice cream.
He buys it in like a bulk bar
and just cuts it up and puts it in between wafers.
It used to be,
Like a dollar, I think it's gone up to $2.
Inflation, what can you do?
But that is absolutely delicious if you're on a budget.
If you're not, come here.
I don't know you guys, I just really needed today
for my heart and my soul.
I think sometimes I feel so much pressure to like go out
and shoot these crazy episodes and do everything.
I know people rely on some of my guides
to give them inspiration when they're traveling.
I think sometimes I push myself a little bit too hard.
So for me to come home to Singapore, have some downtime with my dad,
see my friends, eat good food, sleep in my own bed
and have a really chill day just hanging out
with you like this has been so lovely.
I've really enjoyed making this episode.
If you've really enjoyed watching it
and spending a day getting ready for China with me
and just like eating and drinking my way through Singapore.
Please let me know in the comments
because I would love to film more hanging out with you
episodes like this.
So I need to go home, start packing for China.
I think a big part of the reason I love going there
Because the filming is so fun.
It's like Japan where it just feels like you're inside
one giant super fun theme park the entire time.
There's so much to see, eat, do, film and share.
And I can't wait to get started and do all of that with you.
And with that, that brings this week's episode to a close.
I really do hope you have enjoyed it.
Now if you don't already, be sure to subscribe right now
so you never miss a single episode.
And say hello in the comments below.
I hope you have a great week ahead.
And I will see you with a brand new episode from China next week.
I love you.
