Good Monday morning. I'm Julie Donaldson.
It is 4 a.m. October 26. Thank you for starting your
morning with us right here on Fox 5 and streaming on Fox Local.
Here's what's happening today.
Well, breaking overnight, a man is killed near
a grocery store in Montgomery County. We are live
at the scene with what we know about the victim.
Plus, countdown to Election Day. Early voting
begins today in the district.
What you need to know if you're casting your ballot ahead of time.
And after a picture-perfect weekend, weather-wise,
we'll continue into the work week. Your news at
four starts right now and welcome on in time
to get the week started uh taylor's here with us
taylor i just mentioned it was absolutely gorgeous
this weekend i don't think you could have drawn
out better weather i know you really couldn't it
was so nice outside and it's going to continue
for this week okay good so i really don't have
a whole lot to talk about a little bit chilly to
start out we do have the chance for some patchy fog early this morning
so that could impact your
morning fog in some spots otherwise looking
at a very seasonal dry week today should be a little
bit warmer as we see high temperatures return to near 70 degrees.
Julie? Well, we're following
breaking news out of Montgomery County.
A man has died after a stabbing along Georgia Avenue
in Silver Spring. This is a live look at that scene,
which appears to be contained to behind
the H March. Police say that officers responded
to the scene around 1230 this morning. No word
yet on the victims that are identity or any suspects.
And early voting begins today in a
district 25 voting centers will be open daily
from 8 30 a.m until 7 p.m that's going to go
through sunday november 1st dc residents can cast ballots
at any center regardless of their home
address same day registration is also available
with proof of residence now the dc board of
elections they will operate 75 vote centers
on election day november 3rd and that brings us to
our Fox 5 Live InstaPoll, we're asking just what issues
is it that you care about the most ahead
Election Day. You can vote by scanning the QR code on your screen.
You can also weigh in on
fox5dc.com. Well, Governor Wes Moore heads to Bowie
this morning to make the case for question
three, which is Maryland's ballot measure
on congressional redistricting. With early voting
underway, supporters there are pushing
for a change that could help Democrats win every
congressional seat in the state.
Maureen Umeh is here with the latest. Good morning, Maureen.
congressional districts. Now, this morning,
the governor and other top Democrats will urge voters
to say yes to question three.
The news conference starts at 930 at the Bowie Gymnasium. Congressman
Steny Hoyer, Glenn Ivey, Comptroller Brooke Lehrman,
and Prince George's County Executive
Aisha Brave Boy are among those expected to join Governor Moore.
Organizers call question three a
response to President Trump's push for redistricting
in Republican-led states. If approved, it would
clear the way for a map that puts Maryland's only Republican
in Congress, that's Andy Harris,
at risk. Critics say that would give politicians more power
to choose their voters. On Fox 5's
On the Hill, journalist and author Josh Rollenberg said both parties
are using the same playbook.
Look, it's the oldest political weapon that we have
in the country, and right now it's being
abused by both sides of the aisle.
When we call it mid-decade redistricting, we should really call
it mid-decade gerrymandering
because it's supposed to happen once every 10 years in a year that ends
in zero. Now, yes, vote would change Maryland's constitution,
but any new congressional map would
still require separate action.
The potential changes would affect elections in 2028 and beyond.
Not the congressional races voters are deciding on right now.
Julie? I'm here to keep a jihadist
Muslim Brotherhood member from becoming a United States senator.
Well, the president
intensifying his attack against Michigan Democratic candidate
for Senate Abdul El-Sayed
over the weekend. Trump calling El-Sayed a jihadist
while comparing his Republican opponent
Mike Rogers to apple pie.
If elected, El-Sayed would become the nation's first Muslim senator.
He has denied any ties to extremist groups.
The president's remarks also drawing sharp
backlash from the group Arab Americans for Trump,
a key ally for Trump in 2024,
which said the comments that crossed the line and were racist.
And rapper Nicki Minaj was also on the campaign
trail in Michigan over the weekend,
the entertainer getting voters charged up
to head to the polls and to vote Republican.
This comes as the 43-year-old has received
some informal nominations for White House
press secretary, following Kate Zachariah's outing.
So many people were maybe giving up a little bit,
a little bit hopeless.
And since he's come back, he's changed the energy of our country.
And he's given us a future to look forward to,
a brighter future for us and our children.
So let's make some noise for this great man.
There are also reports that the White House
is considering Minaj as the next press secretary.
Well, today, faith leaders will join for a press conference advocating
for free and fair midterm elections.
Jewish, Christian and Muslim leaders will meet
at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library
in D.C. as part of a growing interfaith campaign.
The meeting, it will be at 1 p.m.
4 or 5, let's get a good look at our weather.
And again, the weekend was absolutely gorgeous,
whether you're out at National Harbor taking a spin on the Capitol Wheel
or really anywhere around town.
It was absolutely beautiful.
I know the Marine Corps Marathon went off this weekend as well.
I was really just pleasantly surprised.
It was one of those days where you just really needed
to be outdoors all day long, Saturday and Sunday.
I know.
It was just such fantastic weather.
And it's going to continue again.
So we have really settled into a nice stretch,
a seasonal stretch of dry weather for most of October.
It's going to continue through the end of the month, most likely.
So I think we'll get through Halloween on a dry note, too.
Let's check in with temperatures.
We're currently near 40 degrees at Dulles Airport,
47 at Reagan, 42 right now at BWI.
We do have some isolated patchy fog that has started to develop.
It's very isolated, but don't let it be too much
of a surprise if you briefly run into it.
It is going to be fog.
So that could briefly impact your morning commute.
Otherwise, let's check in with temperatures.
We've actually dropped to the 30s for Frederick.
We're at 47 in D.C., 37 in Manassas, and currently at 45 in Quantico.
So chilly start to the day.
Looking dry for this afternoon.
Temperatures should get into the 60s by noon, low 70s by 5.
Julie?
let's check in on your morning commute
It's Monday morning, and right now no major issues to report.
If you're on 270 in the Maryland Majors,
between I-70 and the Beltway, just 26 minutes.

The drive time between I-95 and 270 is going to take you eight minutes.
And then if you're on Maryland Route 5,
between 301 and the Beltway, nine minutes.
So right now, everything is in the clear.

at several locations on Mount Jefferson Park Pathway.

and the phone number of DHS was sprayed
on the pathway around 11 p.m. on Friday, October 23rd, about 6.30 a.m.
on Saturday, October 24th.

Montgomery County Public Schools kick off
the first of two capital budget
public hearings tonight.
It starts at 5 p.m. at the Patricia B. O'Neill Board of Education room
in Rockville. Officials are taking public input
on proposed school construction renovations and
future facility investments, faculty investments.
New court filings allege the White House is
withholding records revealing the scope
of President Trump's influence over the Kennedy
Center, including its sudden closure.
Attorneys for Democratic Representative Joyce Beatty are
asking a federal judge to force
the Trump administration to hand over all documents,
including text messages showing
the president's direct correspondence with the center's leadership,
which Beatty's attorneys claim was near constant.
And President of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva
Silva has won his reelection.
Brazil's electoral court announced that the vocal critic of President
Trump had a lead of nearly 4.4 million votes.
That is close to 52% of the total vote.
His opponent has refused to concede defeat
and has asked for the election results to be annulled.
Nobel laureate and opposition leader Maria Corina Machado made
a historic return to Venezuela on Sunday.

with a simple message on social media saying,
I am here with you.
And a deadly Russian drone strike left four people dead.
Ukraine has retaliated to continuous
strikes attacking Russia's water
and power plants in Russian-occupied Crimea. The country sent its
own drones to Russia's southwest region, killing three people.
And a panel of federal appellate
judges appeared skeptical on the timing
of the Justice Department's request to block thousands
of mail-in ballots in California.
The lawsuit brought on by the Trump administration accuses
California officials of failing to meet a 48-hour deadline
to review 20,000 names the administration
flagged as likely non-citizens.
California officials dispute the claims, arguing the
government's data is unreliable
and would disenfranchise eligible voters. New on Maryland
Congressman Johnny Olchewski says that he has
an idea on how voters could bypass Congress.
He is proposing a constitutional amendment
that would let voters directly pass or repeal federal
laws through national ballot questions.
Now, if passed, that would allow citizens to gather
signatures equal to that of at least 5% of voters
in the most recent presidential election in at
least 25 states. Now, 18 months after verification,
the question would go to voters in the next
national election. If 60% of Americans were to vote for certain issues,
there are restrictions
on things like wars, spending, but on policy,
if an overwhelming majority of Americans support it,
we should be acting. This is a failure for Congress,
and that's why we're putting it forward.
Proposal would require a long road to become reality.
It needs a two-thirds vote in Congress
and ratification by three-fourths
of the states just to amend the Constitution.
A new affordable housing community is opening today in Fairfax.

the latest on that. And tens of thousands
of runners hit the pavement for the Marine Corps
Marathon. We'll have the scoop on all of the winners,
but first, Taylor is tracking your
forecast. Yeah, it was certainly a chilly start to the marathon.
Going to be chilly again this
morning, but we do have a brief warm-up happening today
and this week, so I'll have much more on
That forecast coming up after the break.
