Liberals adopt ‘Higgs-Allain’ attack line on new PC leader
Oct 26, 2026
All of a sudden Premier Susan Holt
and her Liberal MLAs have adopted a new party line.
So it's unfortunate that she was part of the Higgs Alain team.
A rerun of what plagued the former Higgs Alain government.
They're talking about Danielle Alain, the new leader of the PC party.
She's on the ground of our Higgs Alain
After 46% rent increases under the Higgs Alain government.
It's pretty obvious what's going on here.
The Liberals want to link the new PC leader
to former Premier Blaine Higgs.
Alain was part of Higgs' government, and Higgs became very unpopular.
The Liberals beat him soundly in 2024,
but this attack line lacks a bit of context.
PC Alain.
In 2023, Alain was one of six PC MLAs who split with Higgs
on a gender identity policy for New Brunswick schools.
Many PC party members considered that a betrayal,
with one of them even planning a new anti-Alain party.
That's what split the party in two. That's what made the divide.
Higgs himself told the Canadian Taxpayers Federation
Alain was part of a plot to get rid of him.
I think the bigger issue was they thought,
oh well, this won't go down well,
this is the thing, we'll get rid of Higgs.
For Liberals, the Higgs-Alain feud isn't going
to get in the way of a good line.
He voted with Higgs hundreds of times,
and he voted against Higgs one time.
So really, they've served alongside each other. It's the same party.
Alain gave the Liberals an opening this week
when he would not commit to keeping the rent cap
the Liberals put in place two years ago
after Higgs' refusal to impose one.
It's the same group of people
that are sitting across the floor from us.
They're people that served under Higgs,
alongside Higgs, and alongside Alain.
The next election is two years from now.
Two years for voters to sort out whether Danielle Alain
was too close to Blaine Higgs or not close enough.
