What about Iran strikes? Should we expect those as soon as today?
I don't want to... Would I tell you that?
The answer is no. There will not be a strike today.
A U.S. strike on Iran
may have been taken off
the table for today.
But does that mean the threat of war is fading?
U.S. President Donald Trump has now ruled out
an American attack on Iran for October 25,
even as Washington continues to weigh its next move against Tehran.
And his statement comes with one major caveat.
The possibility of future military action remains firmly on the table.
When a reporter asked Trump whether
the United States would attack Iran,
the president initially responded with a question of his own.
Would I tell you that?
But he then made his position for the day clear.
The answer is no.
There will not be a strike today, Trump said, according to Al Jazeera.
What about Iran strikes? Should we expect those as soon as today?
I don't want to—would I tell you that?
But the answer is no.
There will not be a strike today.
That is a decision about October 25.
It is not a promise that the United States
will avoid further strikes in the days ahead.
So what is driving this uncertainty?
Earlier on Sunday, Trump said he was still weighing two options,
reaching an agreement with Tehran, or continuing military action.
He described the choice as whether to finish the job or make a deal.
That suggests Washington is keeping both military pressure
and negotiations in play,
even as the immediate threat of an attack appears to have eased.
But the diplomatic picture remains complicated.
Iran says messages are still being exchanged
with the United States through intermediaries,
despite negotiations remaining stalled.
Tehran has also rejected American demands it views
as requiring what it calls complete surrender.
At the same time, Iran maintains
that a diplomatic channel remains open,
and regional mediators are now trying to keep that channel alive.
Qatari mediators were in Tehran on Sunday
as part of efforts coordinated with Washington
to reduce tensions, according to a source briefed on the discussions.
Another major sticking point is the Strait of Hormuz,
This strategic waterway is critical to international energy shipments,
making it one of the most important pressure points
in the confrontation between Washington and Tehran.
Iran's ambassador to Pakistan said Tehran
had conveyed through Pakistani mediators
that it was prepared to reopen the Strait
if Washington lifted its naval blockade.
However, an Iranian outlet affiliated
with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps
disputed that account, saying no new proposal had been made.
That contradiction highlights just how uncertain
the diplomatic situation remains.
There is no clear confirmation of an agreement to reopen the Strait
and no indication that
the broader dispute between the two countries has been resolved.
For now, Trump's announcement means there will
be no U.S. strike on Iran on October
25, according to his statement.
But the larger confrontation is far from over.
Washington is still weighing military options.
Tehran continues to resist demands it considers unacceptable.
And regional powers are attempting
to prevent tensions from escalating further.
The critical question now is whether
this temporary pause can create an opening for
negotiations, or whether the two sides will move closer
to another round of military confrontation.
For now, Trump has ruled out an attack today,
but he has not ruled out a strike tomorrow.
