Detroit where we talk about all
the good happening in and around our city.
Our next guest is here to talk skin care.
If you're trying to get your routine together
or trying to switch it up as we transition into these cooler months,
we have Michelle Pericola from Kiehl's joining us now.
Welcome.
Thank you.
So for people who don't know about the skin care brand Kiehl's,
because we know there's so many of the brands out there,
talk about Kiehl's and what they focus on.
They focus on proven ingredients.
Kiehl's has been around since 1851 they started
as an apothecary in New York City on 13 and 3rd
I basically tell people we've been around
for 175 years oh my god obviously they're doing
something right it's a nice a nice mix of nature
and science so they like to keep it as pure as
possible we do source back to whatever we take
so it's just a really nice pure simple brand
that's gone from generation to generation i'm familiar
with the brand i didn't know they've
been around since the 1800s but that kind of gives you
an idea of how trusted the brand is if they've
been able to stick around for that long yep correct
and that's what's nice that's what
holds it back you know grandma brings the grandchildren
and her mother brings the
daughter in um just had a lady the other day come
in and just swapped out all of the hair care from
her daughter's shower as oh wow the same as hers
so it's nice to see that because Kiehl's really does
not advertised it's just all by reputation really
and that's how you know you're i mean we have a
lot of good luxury brands who don't have to advertise
because of that word of mouth so
similar thing for you yep exactly talk about
the different products that you offer i know it's like
a wide range it is a wide range but we start at every level
so you know we have a lot of younger
people come in and again TikTok shows them
so many different things and i want to deep dive into the
ingredients that their skin's not even ready for yet
so I like to start you know we always like
to start bare bone basics
and it really doesn't matter what age you start that person at it could
be 12 and new at skin care it could be 30
and new at skin care so we're going to start them out
bare bone basics you know you want a good wash you want
a nice toner you want a great moisturizer
But at Kiehl's, we do complimentary consultations.
I didn't know that either.
Everything is complimentary.
So we can deep dive with a derma reader, and that's how we met Erica.
She came into the store, not quite sure.
One of my Kiehl's pros did a derma reader, and she just loved it.
It gave her so much information.
Some people are nervous to deep dive that much.
We can just do a simple test.
We can test your skin barrier and your hydration level.
wow so what's the derma reader is it something
that you kind of do photo skin or yep it is with
a photo skin it's a little bit more of a deep dive
so it'll tell you what your dark spots are
what your uv damage is how your are your um your pores clogged
so you know goes that deep how are
the circles underneath your eyes you know
so it's a little bit more of a deep dive but again we do
have the tools or even just talking with somebody
because a lot of people don't want to know or may
not not quite sure but as long as we're building their skin barrier
which is the most important
aspect of skin care and their hydration level
so that's free that is free i need to go to Kiehl's
that is free i've had people come
in and just I'm like what products are you using and we're very
you know we're honest we're transparent you know especially
in today's age you know everything is
more expensive it really is so you know we like
to fit our Kiehl's products into their routine
where it's needed if it's a face wash
and they have one already you know once it's empty come
on back yeah but we can still plug in Kiehl's here huh I love
that you guys do that now you talked
about um making sure they're getting products
that their skin is ready for correct what did
you mean by that very different many levels you know you have
the younger generation who wants
to come in and they want the vitamin C serum they want
the retinol serum your skin's if your skin is
baby soft you don't need that so there's levels to it
so there is levels to it a lot of people
have sensitive skin just
so happens that our retinol is a micronized retinol so it's a little
bit softer of a retinol you can ease yourself
into it twice a week three times a week I always tell
people listen to your skin your skin's going
to tell you what it needs whether it's dry
if it's a hydration level we have different serums
that can fix that okay we have a new
collagen serum which is a collagen oh very nice helps
with the elasticity of your skin you want
to keep it nice and taut it's going to help
with the fine lines has a nice B12 so it's going to
give you a little bit of that radiance okay
so it just all depends at what level you're at but we
can meet anyone anywhere anytime wow i love
that so we're transitioning into some cooler months
So what should people maybe be considering?
Because we know our skin tends to get
a little drier during the transitional season.
Right, that it does.
We have our nice ultra facial cream.
That is our number one hydration.
It does have a 4.2% squalene, which is really nice.
And it also partners with a hydrating mask, which is overnight.
It does not need to be rinsed off.
That's at a 10.5 squalene.
Your skin produces squalene.
so you want to mimic what your skin
is already producing we just launched last year the mega
moisture which is a squalene body moisturizer
so it's really important i always tell people
to keep your face at that nice brand new kitchen sponge everyone loves
that brand new sponge out
of the package and that's how you want to keep your skin
so i tend to run dry so i use our
hydro plump which is a 15% glycerin that glycerin
is just going to lock everything into your skin
okay or you could use like a hyaluronic acid
a lot of you know that's everyone knows what
hyaluronic acid is is that the hydrating one it's
a for hydration okay yeah but it's for hydration
i feel as though the glycerin is a little bit more of an elevated
but then again we can reach
you where you're at are you new at this texture
is so big into skin care yeah if you don't like
how it feels you're not going to use it
so we have a variety of different textures of different
serums that can do the same thing yeah and eric
and i we were talking about your skin care will
depend on your skin type
so what are the different kinds of skin types out there well you have a
combination you have oily around
the T-zone, you have dry dry skin, um most of your oily oily skin
comes from people who are not hydrating
their skin, I call it your oil glands in your face going to
like survival mode, so it's producing more oil
but then once you know you explain that simple
task to that person, they know to add moisturizer
to the skin, it tricks your oil glands not to
produce more oil, wow, because it doesn't need
to, it's not in survival mode anymore, so anywhere
from combination, dry, oily, sensitive, acne prone, we
do have a nice acne line with a salicylic acid
okay, that will help that out, we
also have a natural line, our Rare Earth, which is an Amazonian
clay that will pull those oils out of your face naturally
so it just depends, it's a good mix
between nature and science as I indicated
so you have the ones who want to go down the nature road
yeah, and you have ones are like no, let's get
this fixed right now, what's more popular, let's get this
fixed right now, I love that, so what, okay we know
uh cleansers, typically every brand has that, the
cleansers, the toners, uh moisturizers, face masks, we see
a lot of different masks out there, we see
the the peel off kind, the serum kind, you just put on your face
or the one you squeeze out the bottle
and you, it's one better than the other, it all depends
on the ingredient and what do you want
you know, and what you want it done, you know, can't forget
the eye cream as well yes we have our
famous avocado eye cream
which is very nice it kind of gives you a nice little iridescent
underneath the eyes you're gonna make me run
if you're going out at night plus you're hydrating
your eyes as well so you know a lot of people come
in i want an eye cream or i want a mask
all of our man you know they have
the nice little sheet mask everyone loves the sheet mask it's nice
and it's nice and easy to do yeah well we
also have a rare earth mask we have a turmeric cranberry
seed mask that has little tiny cranberry seeds oh wow sorry try
to tell people do it before you
take a shower use those fine ingredients in that mask
as your exfoliator which will help with your
clogged pores wow and then you do your cleanse afterwards okay
so i have oily skin what would
you recommend for the oily skin girlies oily skin girlies i would go
with probably once twice a week
the rare earth exfoliating cleanser okay even
though it says daily you want to listen to your
skin it is gentle enough to use daily
but if you feel as though it's drying you out a little bit
too much yeah then you want to back off i love
our calendula face wash it's from normal to oily skin
okay so as the seasons change you don't need
to change your face wash pair that up with the toner
and you can easily put your toner in a mist bottle
for that facial mist okay um i would still add an
oil i would go with the um ultra facial cream okay during
the day you can always add a glycolic
acid at night or even a niacinamide
which is niacinamide, yep, that and vitamin C I've been
because I've had hyperpigmentation
and the vitamin C has helped tremendously, now I don't really have
any of that, but okay, I was going to say we have
a nice dark spot solution which helps with the
hyperpigmentation, okay we
also have a sunscreen that helps even tone the skin, oh god, so there
are many different elements that you can do, I love that, so for someone
who has normal skin do they
not have to worry about uh getting too many products
is it a different lineup for them
not necessarily, it all depends on what level they
are, I mean we have the people who just want the
four and done, one wants, they want the eight, the eight
or the ten, you know, so just everyone's at
a different level and that's where you meet them
at, what would you like, you can easily layer your
serums for you know whatever purpose it may may need, yeah I like
the uh multi-step skincare
because it's just therapeutic just being
in the mirror, it is very therapeutic, I love to tell the new moms
spend time for yourself, the self-care for the busy woman
these days is just like you're worth it
spend that extra time, treat yourself, you've got
to take care of yourself before you can take care
of others, that's a word, that's a word that's very important
so you're partnering with the
it girl we are, and we are so excited about Sunday, there'll
be a lot of um fun activities
going on, I'll have my whole crew there
so we'll be able to meet every skincare need of everybody
there excuse me will also be tons of goodies and surprises
Thank
you.
