One simple swimming skill could save your child's life.
Teaching your child how to find and reach the pool wall or stairs is one of the most important water safety skills they can learn.
In this video, Coach Jacob breaks down how to teach this essential skill step by step, helping your child build confidence, independence, and safer habits in the water.

Swimming back to the stairs
or the wall could save your child's life, and today we're going
to show you just how easy it is to actually teach this skill.
Great float, Rafi. Rafi's 19 months
old now, and all we're going to do is sit on the stairs for this drill,
making it super easy for
him. Now, Rafi has pretty good breath control.
He clearly loves the water, has a blast in the pool.
This is a good place. You need to get him,
you need to have him pretty confident in the water
before you do these drills.
We're going to have him stand up on the stairs. Can you stand up right
here? We're going to go underneath the arms.
And what we're going to do is we're going to go in
the water and then I'm going to have Rafi swim around me
and come to the stairs over here. I
want to see him grab that step and then pull himself up.
That's what we're going to be looking
for. So before you do the drill with your child,
you want to go through the motions with them a
few times. So we're going to go in the water, Rafi.
We're going to swim around and we're going
to go back to the stairs but I have curved stairs
so for me I'm going to have to step off the step
but if your stairs are straight across you're actually
not even going to have to move you'll
be able to just have the child swim all the way out
and around you ready Rafi but the goal is
to have them come out
and swim around you like this if your child is swimming on their own a
little bit you can use a toy you put a toy out here
and have them swim grab it and then swim
back to the stairs ready buddy okay
this time we're gonna go for it we did it above the water now
we're gonna do it underwater ready set go i'm
not gonna let go of him i'm gonna hold him good
gotta kick kick kick kick kick pretty long good
and we came up very nice great job Mr. Raffy you
did it very good i'm gonna do that same thing again
so again i never let go of him i have my
hands on the sides of him guiding him i'm teaching him
the motion of swimming out turning around and
coming back good he's turning around he's got
to do that turn on his own good job good and up
very good he's doing a great long breath hold
that's amazing good job high five Rocky high five
double high five yeah okay we're gonna do it again
so now we need to do a little less work
so again i'm looking for him to do the turn
so here look how his head's turning that's what i
want to see good i'm gonna give him
a breath i didn't think he was gonna make that one good
come on there we go good job
so i wasn't sure he was gonna make that one so i picked him up just a
little bit right before so he could get some
breath again we're in the process of teaching
him something not getting him afraid of it
so it's okay to help him and guide him through this
process ready set swim come around
and we're going to turn come back very good kick kick kick
kicking up let's do it again up
and around ready we're going to rinse and repeat we do the drill
over and over and over again good all the way around
and he's doing a lot of that turning
on his own i let him finish the swim
on his own. Did he drink water? No he didn't. That is good
so guys it's really that simple all you have
to do is sit on the step the child's going to jump out
swim around you and swim back to the stairs you have to rinse
and repeat this drill over and over
and over again and eventually your child will be able to jump out turn
and swim all the way back
to the stairs all on their own if you need help teaching
your child to swim all you have to do
is let me know their age what you're struggling with in the comments
and i'll do my best to help
