James Kaufman, World News Report today.
Ladies and gentlemen,
we've had a very large earthquake over in the Philippines.
Came in as an 8 on the DYFI,
an 8 on the Shake Map, at 35 kilometers of depth.
The USGS ranked it a magnitude 7.8,
24 kilometers west-southwest of Borias, Philippines.
obviously we have a lot of fault problems in that area
and there's a ton of active volcanoes
a 7.8 is a large quake
this is not the only big quake we've seen today we have a swarm up here
off the Russian peninsula
and the biggest one there is a 6.1 now we've just had this aftershock
a 6.1 this happened since i started
the program two seconds ago so we have a 7.8 and two 6.1s
this is all probably due to the geomagnetic storm
that we had for two days charging these plates
i warned you that we were going to be looking
for earthquakes after that time period some people
are saying that it's a planetary lineup
but i'm going to try to disprove that jumping over to
volcanoes and earthquakes.com at 7.8 right there right over
a bunch of active or awakening
volcanoes right on a plate tectonic boundary we just saw
that 6.1 aftershock i don't think it's
hit this map yet we have that other 6.1
and a swarm up here actually the 6.1 being the largest
of the swarm so we're seeing a lot
of activity following about 48 hours of geomagnetic activity
although we sure didn't see it on the satellites let's zoom
in and see what we have we're able to
see that 6.1 after all they've got three
of them down here guys 6.0 a 6.4 and a 7
8 they are rocking
and rolling you can see this is a volcanic ridge right here uh we have
plate tectonic boundaries throughout the area
but one not right here again we are on that
volcanic ridge so what else can you
do when you turn volcanoes on they're active you can see that
there are at least three volcanoes just under it
that are in fact active we don't have one
erupting right now but this is probably a
precursor here a 7.8 a 6.4 and a 6.0 although
they're calling it a 6.1 over the USGS i don't see
this being on a plate tectonic boundary it
definitely is in the Philippines we're gonna take
a quick look at that swarm off the Russian
peninsula here uh Ebeko volcano is right there
and that is quite a swarm you can see there
talking about two four six eight ten ten
earthquakes i always wonder what these tracks
are i know we all do so what do we see here we see it's
on a plate tectonic boundary
and not too far away from active volcanoes i.e. this is a volcanic ridge
that runs through here
All right, back to the 7.8.
The 7.8 was a 6.1 aftershock.
Wow.
All right, over to VolcanoDiscovery.com.
We have a 7.8 here, and it happened 59 minutes ago.
So we're on top of things here.
Obviously, the aftershock just occurred.
All right, this is the shake map from VolcanoDiscovery.com,
And you can see that a bunch of people reported feeling this one.
It was well felt in the Philippines, for sure.
So that was a really, really big quake.
Now, this is a big one.
472.4 atomic bombs of energy released.
It's going to be one of your biggest earthquakes that we've seen.
That's being reported by the USGS, obviously.
77 seismic stations caught it
and there's only 172 reports of it being felt most people aren't
going to call in and register
and say they felt it especially if it's that size this was confirmed
and the nearest volcano is 33 miles away 33 miles
who would have thunk it all right comparing
earthquake data
from different reporting agencies usgs 7.8 35 kilometers of depth
the germans a 7.77 god's number 50 kilometers
we've got raspberry shake coming in at an
8.1 default depth 10 kilometers wow got
the french coming in at 7.44
at 71 kilometers we have
have indonesia coming in at an 8.2
at 46 kilometers we have
the italians coming in at 7.9
this is a much more powerful earthquake than
the usgs is giving it credit for we have australia
coming in at 7.8 same as the usgs europeans
at 7.8 see australia came in at 79 kilometers of depth
And the Europeans at 45, so they're all over
the map having some problems determining the actual depth of this.
The Philippines themselves came
in at a 7.0 with a default depth here.
Now, there's been six aftershocks here.
See if I can show it to you all.
They've had six large aftershocks.
One of them came in 10 minutes after the big 7.8.
It was a 6.4 aftershock.
These are those aftershocks.
Here's the 7.8, the 6.0, the 6.4,
and then a 5.7 and a 5.1.
And we're missing one.
It must be in the 4s.
Actually, there was about 40 or 50 aftershocks.
They're just much, well, not as strong as these quakes.
Now, you would think there'd be a tsunami warning.
There was no warning, but I went
to the National Data Buoy Center, and guess what?
jumping over the National Data Buoy Center well just
to call this out we have two tropical
situations that are heading west here
but we have four buoys in event mode in this area one
a buoy 21-42-0,
a buoy 52-45, a buoy,
let's see, 52-402,
and a buoy 55-023.
I checked all these buoys,
and all of them actually show small tsunamis.
By small, I mean 5 to 7 centimeters.
Although this one here shows something I've never seen.
It shows a big, big tsunami, but then there's
really nothing that follows up after this.
Take a look at some detailed information from this event right now.
This is station 52402, and that's
going to be, what, 5, 10, about 14 meters.
14 meters so that would be 40 foot wall of water
this must be some sort of mistake because when i
pull up the well the detailed information i guess we could have had
a huge wave there that
calmed down quickly but we're seeing it
everywhere about 14 meters on both of these
uh the first one's going to be our uh
our water column height you can see the event here and this
should be the event itself
but it seemed to go back to normal rather quickly and like i said
this is just one of the other buoys station 21420
about six seven centimeters is all big difference
say now we had some of the folks out there saying
that it was a planetary lineup situation that
caused this and regularly when the moon is beside the earth either here
or here but you're not going
to get a strong enough planetary lineup
the moon's gonna have to be behind or in front of
and there's gonna be have to be a lineup of some sort
which i've seen none of so i'm accrediting
all of this to the 48 hours of geophysical
geomagnetic activity that we did have,
and that time it would be just about right
charging those plates and popping off that 7.8
that generated how many atomic bombs worth of energy?
472.4 atomic bombs worth of energy was
released wow i wonder what the island looks like
as two of the two of the larger quakes were just
about on the shoreline with that said guys it was a big one
so if we don't ever see anything like
that on the west coast please give us a thumbs up please share far
and wide very important
information
and always remember that anything's possible bizarro world
