Uprooted trees, toppled over motorcycles, and damaged buildings.
All signs that a powerful typhoon swept past Taiwan overnight Friday
into Saturday morning.
It's considered quite serious.
I saw news about the average wind speed that could reach up to 70
or 80 kilometers per hour in Taipei City.
That's serious, quite crazy.
typhoon champi left a trail of damage behind
in taipei that workers scrambled to clear saturday
morning in northern taiwan roads were flooded with water
and off this southern island a
sightseeing boat capsized the storm
is now being considered one of the strongest in the pacific
this year killing one person
and injuring more than 500 people people say october typhons no
one knows. This means they are hard to predict.
We also say October typhoons are fierce. This
means they often bring damages.
The government warned of potential damage in the days leading
up to the storm. Thousands evacuated,
schools and businesses closed, and hundreds of flights
were grounded.
Japan's Ishigaki Island was also impacted by the strong winds and rain.
People worked to pick up the pieces there Saturday morning.
The storm was briefly a
super typhoon after it peaked
with maximum sustained winds of 298 kilometers per hour
earlier in the week.
It's weakened and is now headed towards China and Japan.
Both countries remain on high alert as they brace for impact.
