Wild dogs fail to see the danger

Lions view smaller or subordinate carnivores as a direct threat. They routinely kill wild dog pups at dens or catch individual dogs away from the pack to weaken the competition. In most cases, lions leave the bodies of dead wild dogs behind rather than eating them, confirming that the aggression is driven by territorial and competitive dominance rather than hunger.
