This injury update is VERY SCARY...
Oct 24, 2026
Josh Giddey just revealed something very scary
and it's that he's been playing through an injury
and nobody outside of the Bulls building knew it until today.
It is his left wrist. It happened in
the preseason. He got an MRI and the plan is,
in his words, to manage it throughout the season.
Then you look at the box score from that same night.
Two points, one made shot in 10 tries,
five turnovers, and the Bulls lost by 43.
So yes, it is very scary and it's scary because
we don't know what's happening we don't know what
the extent of this injury is at this point and the
one person that does is out there playing through it
on the court every night we're also going to
talk about what Tiago Splitter
and Caleb Wilson had to say about their biggest loss on opening
night in franchise history
so stay with us we have a lot coming up on this episode of Bulls Digest
first the facts we have Giddey said after the loss
that he hurt the wrist during the preseason
Sports Illustrated says it happened
in the preseason opener against the Phoenix Suns on October 8th,
and that it was bad enough that he got an MRI.
In that game, he played 23 minutes and went 1 for 6 from the floor.
That MRI has not been released to the public, and the only thing we
do know about this injury is that it's listed as a sprain.
What Giddey did say is that the medical team weighed the options
and decided they would manage it, rather than fix it right now.
Manage it throughout the season.
That is not a phrase you use for something
that's going to go away in a couple of weeks.
Until now, the Bulls had not put him on the injury report.
Not once.
He has played in every game since the preseason opener.
As of Thursday afternoon, that changed.
He is listed as probable for Friday
at Milwaukee with a left wrist sprain.
He did not miss a game
in all five preseason games he played between 9 and 24 minutes.
And he had 7, 8, and 9 assists in three of them.
The team thinks that he doesn't need to sit.
but this means that a lot of people
were making decisions about this season not knowing what would
happen as soon as we enter it. Now the game.
Last night in Toronto, the regular season opener.
Giddey played 24 minutes. He scored two points.
He made one of his 10 shots and did not make a
free throw or a three. He did grab seven rebounds
and hand out six assists, and he turned the ball
over five times. In the minutes he was on the floor,
the Bulls were outscored by 39 points,
39 and 24 minutes.
As a team, Chicago gave the ball away 27 times, and Toronto won 135-92.
43 points is the biggest season opener defeat in Bulls history,
according to Casey Johnson
of Chicago Sports Network.
The old mark was 35 points in 2001 and 2003. That's what happened
last night. Now let's tell you what head
coach Tiago Splitter had to say about it all.
Tiago Splitter was asked about what bothered him most about this game
and he didn't speak
about the shots. He said quote the way we competed.
Then he got specific quote after a turnover
getting our heads down
when running back that's something we cannot accept. Remember the Bulls
turned it over 27 times
and Tiago Splitter was talking about what happened after every single
one of them. He said he talked to them at halftime
and after the game quote we gotta be better. He
also said the Raptors were no secret quote we knew they had guys
that can steal the ball and we knew
a lot about their physicality and then sometimes you got to feel it
and know it when you go there
and play read that again we knew they knew what they
were walking into in Toronto and that is a
part that should worry a coach
because they did not game plan against it then he got to the rookie
on Caleb Williams he said quote obviously it
was a bad night for Caleb, we're going to grow from this
learn from this, he was playing too much
in crowds, not passing the ball when he had two
three guys on him, so we're going to watch film
and get better, and the numbers back him up, Wilson
had nine turnovers more than anybody on the team
and went seven for 31 from the floor, he played 32
minutes and was minus 45, the reporter
then asked Splitter whether he worries about players falling
into bad habits this early, he said quote "yes, I'm worried about"
that we gotta be better, this is
basically a head coach coming out after game one
and saying he's worried but he thinks that we can
get better and can watch film and can better
and can get better from this, so I'm happy with that
to be honest with you guys, obviously it's only one bad game
and he's going to try to fix the
holes early, Caleb Wilson answered for himself
to quote "I just got to figure it out", that's the great
thing about the NBA is we play 82 games
and he said film is a great way to see where we where
he should be and could be.
There is a rookie taking nine turnovers and a minus 45 on the chin
and still saying the right things.
And now we hear what Josh Giddey had to say about everything that
happened last night. He said the medical team weighed the options
and determined they will
deal with that that way. And when asked if it was a tissue injury,
Giddey deferred to the medical
team. Deferring this to the medical team
is a very careful answer for someone who knows exactly
what's going on with his wrist.
Before we pin this on one wrist, look at what else happened
that night. Toronto led 43-23 after one quarter
The Bulls turned the ball over 27 times. The
Raptors turned it over 10. Toronto had 31 assists
Chicago had 16. Toronto made 3 of every 10 of
their 3-pointers it took, and Chicago made 1-9
So the whole team was in a hole last night. Caleb
Wilson turned over the ball a lot.
Josh Giddey turned over the ball a lot. So it wasn't only
one bad line in the building.
There was multiple bad performances in last night's game. One night
really proves nothing. It's a pretty much
a brand new team with a brand new head coach on the road
against a big team like the Raptors who just got their guy Kawhi back.
So a lot of chips were
against us last night and we went out there
and just couldn't get it done. What does bother me
is the track record. Last season Giddey played 54 games
The Bulls ask a lot from him and he has not
been able to give them a full year yet.
Roto Baller wrote that hamstring and ankle problems
held him to those 54 games,
and that he had arthroscopic surgery on his right ankle in May.
Then the same report said he came into camp with no restrictions.
That was September. By the first
preseason game, he was hurt.
This is a very hard timeline to read as a fan. You see him healthy in
September, and then injured again into October,
and it all comes to light after the first game.
And remember, the wrist he sprained at the end
of the 2024-25 season was his right wrist.
This time, it is his left.
Different wrist, same story, a guard playing through something
Was it the wrist?
Probably.
He's primarily a playmaker and ball handler,
and that's going to be your first thing to
feel it, is your wrist
But here's the part that keeps me honest.
Last season, Giddey played 54 games
and turned the ball over 3.6 times a game.
In 18 of those 54 games, he gave it away 5 or more times.
So five turnovers doesn't really prove that an injury was the case
because we've seen him
have nights like this on two healthy wrists.
What is different is the rest of the line. Last season
he averaged 17 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 9.1 assists.
Against that last night he had two
points on very bad shooting
and yeah it's the night we learned about his wrist injury and that
he's playing through it and I know it's easy to put two
and two together and say yeah it's because
of the injury but it could have just been a bad night for him
and hopefully going forward we'll
see Josh Giddey uh in prime form the honest answer
is it's only been one game and it's a big secret
nobody really knows what's happening besides Josh Giddey himself
so you can either say it is blaming
this on the wrist or you know you can just keep guessing
because it could just be a bad night so
hopefully uh it is a a bad night
and hopefully the wrist injury isn't as serious as it's leading
on to at this point so why does it matter
this much start with the money Giddey has paid 25 million
dollars a year that is 75 million guaranteed over three years
with the offense built around the ball
in his hands and the schedule does not give anybody time
to heal Bulls on Sports Illustrated
say six of the first eight games
are on the road road trips mean travel days back-to-back games no
home practices at all so right now that's
not where you want to be with an injured wrist because
you probably aren't getting the proper treatment
that you would at home so that's a part that is
very scary so right now it is a wrist sprain
and he's probable to play but if that even changes to
questionable or out then we should start
to think about how this lineup looks without Josh Giddey in
it every single night if the wrist is the problem the jumper
and the free throws are where it shows
first and he went zero for zero from the free throw line
and went zero from behind the arc as
well last night the turnovers is where we will
also see the wrist tested because right now 3.6
a game is his baseline if he is creeping towards five every night
that is a signal another thing
to keep an eye to too is if we see the results of the MRI
and if we never get to see those
then we start to become very concerned
so is this scary yeah i think it's very scary we really don't
know what's happening right now the only player that does
or the only person that does know it
is Josh Giddey he knows what's happening with his wrist
the doctors know what's happening with his
wrist and right now he's going to play through this injury
and maybe it'll work out for us but
maybe he'll put some more strain on it
and it will end up to him being out the rest of the season
so hopefully that's not the case
and hopefully this isn't too serious but like i said if we
don't start hearing some more news on it soon
then i would start to become very very concerned but
this is a very scary thing to start the year
for the bulls especially a team that is starting on
the road as well and if you want to hear my honest take on it
when the next few games are over
and how we see him performing from that stay tuned we'll have
a video for that coming up soon
so let me know how you guys are feeling how
do you feel about this Josh Giddey wrist injury
do you think we should start sitting him
and giving him some treatment and giving him some
days off or do you think this is something we don't need
to worry about I'd love to hear all
your guys answers down below in the comments
because I read every single one of them and
appreciate you guys showing some support here on the channel
