For what it's worth, I see that looks school of
fish over there, and I just dropped my net
We're in fairly deep water here.
Which way do we go to get?
This way all right. We have found sheepshead minnows,
but can't catch them of course
Yeah, there's no big big snook jump.
I'm gonna try to keep from
Drowning here. Yeah, well it doesn't matter we need
to be alongside each other actually
Okay, so I'm going to get the net up
so I can walk easily because there
ain't going to be nothing much here.
He's talking about an alligator.
Alligator!
Let's see who's here.
I don't think anybody's here yet.
Hmm.
How'd you catch him?
Really?
Lee and Roxy are here.
I've got a few people.
Hi, guys.
I'm sitting on a bench here in the Florida forest.
um tom has got me on a wild goose chase here it's
a wild fish chase a wild fish chase right
we've uh we've walked through about about
500 yards of mud waist deep um and then we
walked through a couple of hundred feet of uh
um a wooden um trail and what are they called
of whatever it's called yeah it's a walkway
in the in the water and now we're up on a path we've
gone about uh an eighth of a mile we got another eighth
of a mile to get to the starting place
and then we go to hopefully Lemon Bay, I don't know how long
that'll take but anyway um I'm
I'm about ready to get back on my feet.
I've been sitting here for about five minutes catching my breath.
There's there's their fearless leader.
Fearless, but fearful. He's fearless, I'm fearful.
Fearless does not necessarily mean competent either.
Okay, we're gonna get back on the path.
I'll try to stay alive if I can. So far so good.
Should be better going through here.
See if I can get up on two feet here.
Can you take the nets?
Absolutely.
Thomas has the nets.
I got the water in my pocket and we are good to go.
So we're just walking, walking through the woods.
Through the woods.
Here we go.
We're wetting it.
Yeah, it's not too hot.
Got a little bit of a breeze.
We're not dying from the heat.
That's a good thing.
91 degrees.
Boy, look at the gorgeous ferns.
Isn't that beautiful?
Really, really nice.
Very pretty.
Where are we?
Where are we? This is Oyster Creek and what's the park?
Cedar Point. Cedar Point on the
way to Lemon Bay. Look at that.
Look at that. Isn't that gorgeous?
Very nice. Just mounds
and mounds of fern.
Yeah, I bet it's down to zero
because that will burn right down
of the ground. Up in front of us
is the Englewood High School.
You kind of see a little bit of the
buildings up there
on the other side
of the highway.
I remember when Jason
walked us through
a park up where he lives in the Seattle area.
It was really very lovely and a lot more interesting
I think that this, I think,
what are we looking at?
An osprey in that snag, oh yeah.
Yeah, can you see the bird in the tree?
See if I can find the snag.
There it is.
Oh, it's gone now, look who it is.
It's there,
there it is,
right there.
An osprey.
Birds ever.
Yeah, they're neat.
All right, how do
I get this back?
Still
up
there.
ospreys actually have polarized vision
to help them see better through the water
huh makes sense i don't know the fact
that there's definitely adaptations there
well they certainly can see fish in the water i've seen uh
um bald eagles catch fish swim over them
and catch them and go up in a tree
and eat them oh yeah yeah they really
do the the uh the eagle that
I saw did not land in the water it just reached
its claws down and grabbed the
fish and it it swooped in and grabbed it
and kept going yeah that was pretty
slick but yeah Osprey will dive into the water
to catch the fish with both their
claws on their beak they and yeah
and then if they can't lift them they'll try
to swim to shore with them
Alex look what we found
no I don't think so
looks where in the world
is it i don't know what it is no idea
moisture is more not that uniform
shape oh well halfway guys
this this see
this right here see all
this you know what that is
that is wild boar pig rooting up looking for grubs
and other insects roots whatever yeah
anything they can put in their mouth yeah
and they will do that in vast areas there's more here
oh yeah look how it's all see how it stomped down
there little like trails right right there right
there is that building where the parking lot
is way over there no all right basically the parking
So we don't have to walk another mile or is that it?
Yeah
Then then we have to go over there.
I think we might not do it. I'm not gonna make it
I think the hike was nice. The hike is nice
And we're gonna get to some water.
I got a couple of ideas. So we will get to some water yet
In the meantime, we're walking through a Florida forest
Is that a mushroom,
it looks like,
or is that a leaf?
That's
a leaf, yeah,
for sure.
That bird you hear
is the same one we were looking at.
Up where?
It's right there.
Oh, yeah, way up.
Up and gone.
Isn't that gorgeous?
Look at that.
I fly my drone around pretty problematic.
They go after it, do they?
Yeah, well, it's hard to tell where their nests are,
so if you're just buzzing across
the woods, if you get near one of their nests, they'll get buried.
If you get near one of their nests, they'll get buried.
Yeah, I don't see a nest up there, but there could be.
It's an appropriate spot for one.
It could be on the lights over at the stadium, too.
Oh, right.
It is gorgeous old pines.
Look at that.
That's magnificent.
Well, we made it to the road.
Where's that go?
Well, it's like two different parking lots.
Fern Trail.
We might as well do this.
We've got to, yeah.
Yeah, why don't you go grab the car?
My keys are in it.
And I'm going to park.
I'm going to park on the bench here.
And we'll chat for a little while while Thomas goes and gets the car,
which will take him, oh, 10 minutes or so, probably.
Mercy.
Let's see.
Let's see who's up here.
Let's see if we can get some chat.
Come on.
There it is.
Pardon?
Have we talked about the giveaway at all?
What giveaway?
No, I don't know about a giveaway.
It's got to be around Thanksgiving, Mary Page.
Well, come on.
The only wild hogs we have here are hedgehogs, he says.
Who said that? Leek? Leek.
In England, it's true. He's right.
I think the English Hedgehogs are...
Yeah, that's right, Paige.
Had wild hogs while we trailed road horses
in South Carolina and Florida.
But not just wild hogs, but we have Eurasian boars,
wild boar, and feral hogs, all interbreeding,
getting up to 300 pounds, if not larger, regularly.
Yeah, there's some beasties out here, true enough.
Guys, I've seen wild hogs and feral pigs before,
but the Florida ones just get massive,
which is in proportion to everything else down here.
So they tend to out-compete things very well.
And they like to eat bird eggs, probably their favorite food.
We have a lot of birds in Florida we like,
so if any ground-nesting birds, they're going to be subject
to just getting destroyed by the wild hog population.
The wild hog population is devastating.
Let's see. Let me see if I can get some more.
Am I going the wrong way? I don't think so.
Oh, well.
I was trying to turn my camera
around so I could read the text.
Foxy is here.
Colored guppies.
What does ND stand for?
Yeah, I used to think it was somebody
from Maryland until I realized they're in England.
Close to Waldorf. Huh. I used to live near Waldorf.
Pawtuxet Island, Maryland
is middle of the coast,
east coast, where
the Chesapeake Bay is.
Chesapeake Bay is inside Maryland and Virginia,
but mostly Maryland.
Who's in Maryland?
Kind of so tiny, I can't read it.
Sing.
Midlanders is in Maryland.
Oh, slow down, Thomas.
Yeah, right.
Blue skies.
Yeah, right there.
Look at that.
Isn't that gorgeous?
Look at that.
Yeah, sound of peace and rest.
You bet.
Spanish moss.
Yeah, there's Spanish moss.
all around me here look at that look at the spanish moss
on that on that pine isn't that gorgeous
look at that i
think here
we go yeah
this is this is
really right
near the beach
got thomas
back down like a mule absolutely
that's his fault after the other
end here we love to try to figure
out a way to meet up with some people at least go to a fish store
or something mary page is saying
would
be fun wouldn't
it halfway i can

i don't think they're gonna come out during
the day you don't much see them during the day
carried off by fire ants yeah not many here they
are all over florida i don't see them

what we'll do is i'm going
to um i love what i'm going
to do
i'm gonna go offline um and then
when we get somewhere while we're in the water and
able to catch stuff
then i'll come back on so probably gone for a half an hour or so thanks
