Today we're going to play
with the new Victoria Beckham Orchid palette. When I first saw it
online, let me show you,
I was going to buy it for review purposes anyway, but when I saw this
look right here, I could not click add to cart fast enough.
So I'm actually going to try to
replicate that look. But also what I'm wondering,
and I'm sure you're wondering too, is this lilac
right here, how wearable is it?
Is it going to be an easy everyday wearable purple or is this
going to be more of a too purple reserve
for certain special occasions only. You can purchase
just the refill for $51 or the compact and the refill for $76.
I bought the refill only because
I already have a case from when I bought the cocoa palette.
But let's take a look at the box.
Here are the ingredients if you wanted to take a look at that.
Shelf life is 24 months. Made in
Italy I have already swatched it
but i wanted to show you the box so i'm unboxing it again
it comes in this plastic little case here all right let's get
into the swatches first we have
a shimmering pink beige the hero shade
which is the matte lilac plum then this the darkest color
this is a deep matte plum
and then we have this shade that i think is it's my favorite out of all
of them it's a metallic mauve looks kind of like
a rose gold let me just look at the finish that
this is gonna give us beautiful i'll put up a clip
of the swatches in daylight as well the top
shade right here this is a metallic one it's the one
that looks kind of mauvey rose in the pan it
looks cool but then on the arm it's reading a little warmer
and more like rosy bronze yep i
think this color right here this is going
to be my favorite next is the deep matte so this is your
plum it's not black it's not straight purple it's more
of a deep burgundy plum how does the website
describe it a matte deep plum okay this is a shade
that's going to decide whether this palette can
actually go smoky without looking harsh the third one
is the matte lilac the hero shade this is the
one that I don't know if it's gonna be everyday wearable
or just too purple, too lilac-y. On the
arm it's reading like a muted dusty lilac so that's great news.
It's not looking neon or candy
pink. The fear with lilac is that it can be tricky.
Sometimes it can pull gray and make you look tired
or it can pull pink and suddenly you are in like baby doll territory.
This looks grown up so far
so we'll see once it's blended on the eye
and the last shade the bottom shade shimmering pink beige
it's hard to see on my skin tone
so it's soft i'm hoping that it's brightening and that it's not
super metallic first we're gonna
do the everyday lilac test see how wearable that lilac is i'm
gonna start with this shade right here
because i think this is what most people will use as the
first step all across the lid this is the one i
was hoping would not be too metallic and it's not
yeah this is soft it's not high shine it's more of a sheen
so it's not going to compete with the
lilac now i'm applying the lilac shade i already put it
in the crease on this eye right here but
i didn't show it because i thought i was recording
and i wasn't so now i'm going to do the same thing
on the other eye just running the lilac along
the crease basically i am watching the edges because
with purple tones if they start looking muddy
when you blend that's when you lose the pretty orchid
color and start looking bruised
but i'm not seeing that it's retaining the orchid color right now this
is still looking clean it's looking like
a soft mauve haze not like i've been punched in the eye
with a different brush this is a Shodo 02 I'm going
to take the smallest amount of this dark
shade and place it just kind of tap
the outer edge I want to see how deep it is but I don't
want to push it this shade can escalate
this look very quickly very intense color blended
super softly it's still it's giving me structure
um while still staying wearable let's pause right
here let me know down in the comments would you wear
this look out of the house yes or no because
if we're thinking no that's too purple
then this palette is not going to be for us from talking
distance and even up close
this is looking more mauve than purple to me totally wearable it
doesn't scream color we're checking this in natural light
and it still looks it looks soft
on me this is it's not pulling pink it's
not pulling gray if the lilac color had shifted at
this point that's where i would be more worried let's go ahead
and finish the look i'm going to
take the Victoria Beckham eyeliner in cocoa
and tightline we have nothing going on on the lower
lid so let's balance it out by putting some
of the lilac very lightly we're just trying to make
this look look finished and not incomplete there
so super light amount of the lilac now we need
some more brightness in the inner corner
so i'm taking a Merit brush this really tiny pencil
pencil tip and we'll tap the tiniest bit right there
in the inner corner let's finish it off
with mascara i'm gonna use this Dior lash primer first
when i first opened it i didn't like it i
didn't notice any difference but as as it has aged
though the the texture has changed and now it does
make a difference i find myself using it every time under
my mascara it volumizes the the lashes
and i do feel that it makes a difference
for mascara i'm going to use a YSL Lash Clash this
is a finished everyday look
but i want to point out let me show you the website again the shade
that we used for the inner corner this one right here look
at the amount of light that they're
getting in this picture this is not realistic
which is another thing that i like to pay attention
to the picture sometimes they're they're just
so far off from reality and so enhanced that it's
impossible to replicate a similar look this is a look
that we're gonna that we're gonna do next
to see if we can get anything remotely similar
to this we're gonna give that a shot that first look
was a success now we're gonna try to replicate
the look right here the one that i was telling
you about this is absolutely gorgeous what i think is gonna make
or break this look is the
ability to get this shine i just don't think
that this palette can give us that shine so i hope it
can. Let's get started.
I took off all the eyeshadow that I had beforehand and I am going to
put on my base again just so we get started with an even canvas.
What I'm going to do first
is try to replicate the sheen and then build the structure,
the dark part of the whole halo eye.
I'm going to start with this shade right here,
the Shimmering Pink Beige, and I'm going to put
it all over the lid. So in case you were wondering what
this shade looked like, here it is on both
eyes. Now I'm going to take the Metallic Mauve with my finger
and I'm going to tap it onto the
center of the lid. I am pressing, not sweeping,
because I want the reflect concentrated right
there i like it it's pretty
but it looks very different to the shine that we're seeing right
here on her eyelid hers looks more wet like more reflective
and smooth whereas mine looks a little
bit textured and less reflective now we're gonna frame it
so i'm taking the deep plum and slowly
I'm going to start building the crease here
if you want smoky you can get smoky with this palette
it can definitely get very dark excellent quality
that's for sure I'm not getting any fallout and
they're they're blending beautifully they took it really dark here
on the inner part of the eye
I don't know that I want to do that maybe just a little bit more
but that's looks almost black
I don't know that I want that much drama.
Do I want to get there? Not really. What I'm most
interested in is the overall look and the, well,
you know, the shine I've been talking about. So
I'm going to stop there with the plum,
but now we need the lilac to diffuse the edges and keep that
orchid tone.
So I'm going to take this lilac over the edges of the plum.
I'm going to take the plum
on the lower lash line really tight to the lash this is a sigma
e21 brush dark eyeliner is
essential i'm going to use um the coco liner once again on both the top
and bottom tight line and
waterline i'm not taking it as dark around
the crease i want to revisit the eyelid can we get
more shine i am going to wet my brush
and with my wet brush i'm going to pick up the shimmer okay
i mean metallic okay here we go
okay well it doesn't look like
that's gonna happen the shine
is not intensifying to the degree
that i wanted we still have we still have the inner corner
right here so let's try to do let's see
if that same shade the metallic one can give us something
like that but i can tell you right now highly
highly doubt it i'm still working with a wet
brush so this is what we're getting shine wise definitely
not that um that wet glossy
pearl reflect i'm not not fully getting
that i'm back both eyes match i am not going as dramatic
as they did on this image
so i think what's happening with this palette is it gives you
really pretty refined shimmer
but that hyper wet editorial finish in the photo here that
has to be lighting or layering photoshopping
who knows it's not that this looks bad i do like it
it looks sophisticated what i can't get
is that glassy almost lacquered lid effect let's talk
final thoughts we started off the video
with two questions number one is this lilac wearable and
number two can i get a look like the one
on the website first the lilac is super wearable it's not
shouting too purple on the eyes it's more of a soft mauve
as for the second question no the palette
is not going to give you
that super reflective glossy finish it will give you the depth the deep
plum does get really dark and smoky editing me here
so i went back to her instagram and i saw
this post this comment specifically and she's
so right you have to let people know that there's a
lot of orchid gel liner
in these photos nowhere near what's photographed on the website that's
just not cool and misleading and it's very true
because i was not able to replicate this what's
going on here on the lash line underneath
the waterline that is the eyeliner and i bet you that
it's over here in the halo part as well
so just know that if you're going after this look like
i was you're gonna need the eyeliner the quality
of the formula itself is fantastic there's no
fallout it blends flawlessly
so if you want a lilac that's actually wearable you'll be very
happy with this palette if you're going after
that shine that we've been talking about you might need
to bring out the big guns like
um i'm thinking danessa myrick's light work seven or her color
sticks i'm thinking about her foil stick
this is duo number two Twilight Gleam i'm just gonna
pop it on to see what it looks like
but this is still not gonna give us that wet look but it is
gonna give us a lot of a lot of shine a lot
of impact where's my mirror let me just pop it on
see what this does wow okay that's more like it
so if this is what you want you're gonna need the
help of another product
and and that's fine i mean i'm not surprised that we weren't able to
get to that glossy look it was just
an expectation versus reality mismatch overall am i happy with
this palette yes i am i am very happy
with this palette i'm just not wowed by it so wearable lilac
absolutely glossy lid fantasy no so if your hesitation
was am i going to look too purple
no you're totally fine i'm sure you will love it
so would i recommend it yes would i repurchase it
also yes now that i have realistic expectations yes i told you
that i would compare it to
betty but they are so different i mean
these purples they are something completely different
to the Victoria Beckham that that lilac
so this is that's betty well let me swatch the gold
while we're here right sorry more of a ginger tone
and here we have the Victoria Beckham so
very different if you want more in terms
of sparkle this is a fantastic topper if you want
more metallic options you have these two
then you have sort of like an iridescent purple here so
they're different vibes now before we go i would love to know
which one would you go for if you
could only have one. Which one would you pick and why?
Let me know in the comments and I will see
you in the next one. Bye!
