AI GeneratedMicheline LeBlanc and Sylvain Durapeau's Italian vacation was disrupted when Air Canada lost a suitcase. Despite the bag being tracked via an AirTag to Toronto Pearson Airport, airline staff claimed they could not find it. The bag was located seven days later, too late for the couple's cruise, forcing them to purchase replacement clothing and seek compensation.
It was supposed to be a relaxing vacation for Micheline LeBlanc
and Sylvain Durapeau.
They flew to Italy on October 16th,
just days before they were supposed to get on a cruise ship
for a European tour. They were flying from Fredericton,
New Brunswick all the way to Venice
with a connection in Toronto.
Their son Francis Durapeau says when his parents arrived in Italy
there was a problem. Only one of the bags had made it to Venice.
This bag belonging to Francis's
father was missing but it had an air tag
that showed it had been left behind in Toronto they
say that didn't seem to help Air Canada agents
that they talked to basically they were saying
that they couldn't find the bag Francis decided
to drive from his home in Ottawa to Pearson Airport
hoping he could figure it out he showed agents
the location of the air tag which was now just a few
hundred meters from where he was standing some
of the people that we actually spoke to actually
went and looked um where the bag was tagging
and said that they couldn't find it they told us they
looked absolutely everywhere and that they couldn't find it.
Francis went home empty-handed.
That's not surprising to this former Air Canada executive.
Their general rule is that bags should
travel with the passenger.
He thinks the fact that the bag was lost on its way out of the country
may have been the problem.
When you talk about bags being checked internationally,
there's a few more protocols that have to be cleared
and that's where it gets a bit more
complicated to get the bag
to your destination Air Canada eventually did locate the bag seven
days after it went missing
which means they weren't able to get it to Italy on time for the
cruise instead it's now being sent back
to New Brunswick Francis's father was forced to buy some
new clothes for the rest of the trip i'm going
to look into um the next step as to um compensation
and um and you know putting
in those claims CBC News reached out to Air Canada for comment
they did not respond to our request.
