I just have a few questions about a student of yours.
What did you guys talk about?
Eating bones and the witch named Baba Yaga.
Hudson Williams' next show is here.
The new Crave series, Yaga, is billed as a sort of sexy mystery
and it's dropping towards the end of spooky season.
But did you know it was based on a Canadian play?
And if you look at the entire cast,
it's like a who's who of Canadian talent.
Carrie-Anne Moss from The Matrix,
Noel Reid of Schitt's Creek,
Clark Bakko from Letterkenny,
and even Anne of Green Gables herself, Megan Follows.
I was at the premiere so I've seen
the first two episodes. Here's what you need to know.
Fans of Williams will be well fed. He plays not one but two characters,
but one of them is a missing person so you won't see him too much.
Shot earlier this year on Vancouver Island,
Yaga follows a private investigator played by Noah Reed
who's called to this small coastal town
to help a local detective played by Clark
Bacco search for the missing heir
of this wealthy fishery family. But here's the catch,
that town, it's pretty witchy.
Women, everything.
Now before it was a TV series,
Yaga was actually a play that premiered
at Toronto's Tarragon Theatre in 2019.
It was written by Kat Sandler,
who also served as the writer
and showrunner for the series.
I'm feeling unhinged, I'm feeling
powerful, I'm feeling
feminine, I'm feeling sexy, and I'm feeling
like it's about time
we had this show here. Noah Reid actually
said he was supposed to be part of that original
theater show, but he couldn't do it
because it conflicted with his Schitt's Creek filming schedule.
But don't expect a sweet softie like Patrick this time around.
I've joked with some of the producers that this is like my dark era
and I'm enjoying it.
The female character Baba Yaga actually comes from Slavic folklore.
She's the crone who lives alone
in the woods in a house with giant chicken feet.
And just in case it wasn't Canadian enough for
you yet, Alanis Morissette did a cover
of Donovan's Season of the Witch for the show.
