Video Summary
AI GeneratedFather Fish hosts a community live stream focusing on natural aquarium maintenance. He advocates for a low-maintenance, plant-heavy ecosystem, specifically detailing the \"dirted tank\" method using mud and sand caps. He challenges traditional \"cycling\" myths, provides guidance on water chemistry, and encourages a relaxed, sustainable approach to fish keeping over rigid, complex protocols.
I'm live. See? See? I'm live.
I'm alive. Does that count? I'm alive.
Mercy Matilda. Two minutes later.
I've been playing music and chatting with the girls.
We've been having a good time. I thought we were live.

and more people are using it uh we're going to spring for um
a gigabyte plan that will allow people
to post videos all right oh that's good
When do you get on, Father Fish?
Pardon?
When are you able to get on Discord during your day?
Well, off and on.
I mean, whenever I pick up my phone, I have it on my phone.
I don't have it on my computer.
So if I see, I've got it open.
So if somebody posts, I'll see that there's a post.
Yeah.
So I'm on probably half a dozen times a day.
Oh, nice. Well, you actually have a question, but Lee addressed us.
Ladies, I used L'Oreal hair conditioner on my beard today.
It is soft, silky, because I'm worth it.
Lee, you're so funny.
Love you, Lee.
Mine was scratchy, I don't know.
Mary, I took my dog to the groomer today,
and he came all soft and silky.
Oh, Geordie.
simple fish

you have an actual question
father fish I have a question
how can you tell whether your white cloud
minnow is

just like love
funky
funky ones
what do you got on father fish
do all kinds of fancy quivering
oh
I've got a
They do the little cha-cha
Now is
Simple Fishing the one
Who bred all of the
All the white clouds
In a pond outside
And wound up with
350 of them
I don't know that wasn't you was it Simple Fish Keeping
I don't know about that
He's been doing a lot of videos on his channel.
Well, here's a friend of mine.
This is Michael Lobello.
Well, well, Michael.
Yes, you are talking.
You are talking to 75 people online right now on their live stream.
Everybody hit that like button.
If I don't call you, apparently you forget about me.
Oh, that was tear-fishy.
I was thinking about you today.
Oh, I want to get in front of one of you first.
Are you there?
Okay.
Yeah.
This is Michael.
This is Michael Lobello.
Mike is active.
No, no, no, no, no, no.

Lobello.
Lobello.
Yes.
Labello.
Green.
Michael is active in the Tampa Club.
I was one of the first people I met
when I got back into fish down here.
And he got me active in all of the clubs
and was really responsible for me developing my hobby here in Florida.
So he's a pretty special person to me.
Well, very nice.
that my two
young
cousins, 15
and 16, met a
gentleman
the size
of the tank.
Is that correct?
Yes, he did.
Yes, he did.
Yeah.
And a green wall living in California.
Yeah, nearly.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Seven years.
Well, I'm 80, so it's been about 70 years.
Exactly, yes.
Thank you, Ms. Fitz.
Ms. Fitz.
I didn't hear you Lou
I just said that we've been friends ever since

In the morning
Hold on, I just covered my fish room today
with this screen porch
and two 800-gallon
polytanks, and I
am wore out like a beaten
dog.
Knee replacement and hip replacement
has caused me to
now want to curl up in a ball,
in a warm ball, for the rest
of the evening. So, folks, I will meet you
next. I cannot do it this evening.
No worries.
Come up again.
That's all right. We look forward to it.
Okay, guys. Okay, I appreciate it.
Lou, I will talk to you soon, sir.
Is he at least watching us?
No, he's not.
I don't think he's turned on yet.
Are you all ready?
Nothing like a dog from the groomer.
That's right.
Come here, Jordy.
I'm on the 8th of the morning.
I promise in the future, okay, Lou,
we'll figure out the logistics, okay?
That sounds great.
That sounds great.
Thanks, Mike.
I am not
techno-sexual, okay?
You're in the right
crowd then.
Welcome
to RJ's place.
Take care. I love you, brother.
Thank you, Mike. Take care.
Great to meet you.
I want to say hello to people.
Hello here, Fishy Misfit.
Hi, Mary. This is for you.
T-Bone. I'm trying to get Jordy up
taller. Oh, he's so pretty.
John Larson. I'm naming off
names when I can here okay cool Lee Joey a fish Jordy you're
so pretty muppet the camera
we have a new person in here Katherine Camara yeah oh
and another one um RJ there's another
one named RJ also I think it's what it
was RJ's place from Australia welcome Chevy
Ask your questions, Kareem.
Go ahead.
Thank you, Ms. Fenn, for your super sticker.
Yes.
Appreciate that very much.
So, Father Fish, people would like to know
if they can ask questions in the stream.
Mm-hmm.
And that's what we're here for.
Absolutely.
Glad you're here, Kareem.
Randy Roman.
Sorry, I can't stand if I don't say hello
to everybody, so I just got to do it.
Well, you need to.
I'm trying.
Panos is here.
hopefully they all get a hello
who have I missed let's see here I'm doing it again Lee a fish
Raven Greg Morgan T-Bone Lee again
T-Bone oops sorry I'm repeating myself
Irene says she Brazilian oh nice and lives in Ohio isn't that cool
though how many people we have from all over the world
oh well let me get some links Kareem to help you
Michael Long drop some links for you simple fish
keeping a fish i'm repeating it a million times
i've missed y'all so much over
the past day i'm dropping some links to y'all if you have
it does it really does videos i couldn't get
on this morning my internet was down
oh yeah i forgot about that so is everything okay now well i i think
so i think i'm actually back
on my internet power's back on it was crazy
and i couldn't even get cellular data on my phone
everything oh no just a storm came through yeah just
a you know not a thunderstorm just a storm
with heavy, heavy winds.
I think there's
35,000 still out in this area.
Oh, wow. Y'all got
a pretty good storm.
How come New Hampshire was so warm?
Are you guys as warm
as them? Oh, it's warm.
You're warm. Okay.
I was on top chat.
It's 54 degrees right now.
Thank you, Lee.
Karina, come here.
Karina, come here.
Just earned herself
are rich. Yay. Why do you suppose that is?
Because she just, or she, he, just went out
to the lake last weekend and grabbed two buckets full of mud. It stunk
a bit, but it didn't matter.
They got it and put it in their tank, I guarantee it.
Good job, Kareem. That's wonderful. Now all you gotta do now
is cap it with sand. Let us know what
videos you watch, too. Tennessee H2O.
Father Fish, Corrine asked a question.
Did you see her question?
No, give it to me.
Fish, have a great night.
She was saying, I heard you can use mud in the substrate.
Right.
Well, she got some.
Yeah.
So, absolutely.
You put it down and then cap it with two inches of sand.
Right.
I don't care what you got in your tank.
Very slowly and very carefully fill the tank
so you don't stir that up and then you never stir it
up you never change it you never clean it you
never touch it you leave it absolutely alone
except to put plants in it right
that's right Chevy, I don't care if you've already got sand
in your tank just go ahead and cap it again
with two inches more of sand and we'll be happy I don't
care what's in your tank right now everybody stop go get some sand
and put two more inches on it
there you go you won't be set oh thank you Greg the window
who is this one that helps with the
plants to anchor better you have another super
chat Father Fish says Greg the window welcome
and hello and thank you yes hi Greg thank you
yes Father Fish don't tell them about the plants
and how deep to plant them for our newcomers oh yeah okay
so when you get if you're setting up a
new tank and you've got dirt in the bottom
and a sand cap and you want to plant it put the plants
press the roots in halfway down into the sand
do not push them all the way down into the dirt
That dirt is still very raw and very strong,
and it can burn the roots.
So you want to be gentle with this.
The roots will find nutrition.
That's their job, and they do it very, very effectively.
So if you put your plants,
if you've got two inches of sand on top of your dirt,
put the plant in one inch just halfway down into the sand
and then they'll they'll work around and
they'll feel around they'll smell it and taste it
and know just where to go to be able to get
nutrition without the roots getting burned up after
a few months you can put them down further
if you need to but keeping it up keeping
the plants about an inch below the the surface
it's just a good rule of thumb if they come up
if you've got big rooted plants push them down
a little further you don't want them to float
to the top like if you have a really big mother
amazon sword you may need to push it down further than one inch
to really get it but what i usually
do is i'll get the roots in and then i'll pile up sand around
the base to to give some added
security to hold to be sure that that it's going
to hold down can you talk more about the mud from
the lake she would like to know if she needs
to add anything to the mud i told her i think it's
just as good as the soil that you would recommend you don't really need
to if you want to if you
want to thin it out aerate it you can put peat moss
in with it um that'll help to aerate it if
If it's thick and dense, like clay,
then you might want to aerate it.
Mix some peat moss in it to get it kind of more loamy.
And then put it down in the bare tank, about an inch, a little better.
And then cap it with a couple of inches
of sand before you fill the tank.
Fill the tank carefully so you don't stir it up.
then you can plant carefully.
Generally, if you're collecting wild mud,
it's a good idea to mix some peat moss in with it,
just to kind of loam it up a bit,
because the wild mud tends to be rather dense.
Thank you, Foxy.
Yeah, thank you.
Super thicker.
Roxanne, I love you.
Yes, good to see you, Roxanne.
I love you, my daughter.
Sorry.
Yeah, she's a three.
Back from the hospital and doing well.
She has to take things slow for the next few days.
Bit of a scare, but she's okay.
So we're just real happy you're back, Roxy.
Yes, absolutely.
How many inches of mud?
At least one.
You can do more.
At least one inch.
you can put two inches in, uh you can put six inches
in, but there's a point to it
if you've got one in, it's on the size of the tank
if you're putting it in like a 55 gallon
tank one to two inches if it's
a 20 gallon tank one inch like
that he ain't scared, did you just
see that? No, I just had a sneak in from Calvin, he came
and gave me a sugar but
here he comes back, let's watch, I'm
not scared, no I missed it, I was looking ah
there you go, very sweet, hello Chris
Dubbings, glad you're here, uh Emily
dropped the link for Father Fish, I thought I highlighted
the Teespring, yes I got it, get that
Emily Stevens, hello
and yes, what she said was perfect about planting the plants in the sand
i got sidetracked, sorry, Calvin walked in, i went somewhere else
right now crazy setting up my first dirted tank
baby mystery snails 400 ish new blue dream colony
black bar endler and RC explosion and just ordered 80
in plants wow nice yeah all right correct
hey with that mud and that sand on top that's going
to be amazing yeah that'll be great you bet
top soil and then you have a question about
do you we plant in the sand not the soil right
yes plant in the sand not the soil
that's especially true if you're mixing additives
in the soil uh because uh a lot of those additives
are going to be like um fertilizer they're going
to be they're going to be strong uh
if you've got just straight mud with some peat mixed in it
kind of a loamy you can you can put the plant
in that um but if you're capping it you need to cap
with two inches of sand for several reasons one
is to make sure that you have enough substrate in
there to be able to create an anaerobic layer
anaerobic start below two inches in sand so you
You need two inches of sand on top of the dirt in order
for that dirt to be in an anaerobic environment.
In other words,
in order for oxygen to not be able to permeate down to it.
That's important because in an anaerobic environment, waste
breaks down into components that are easy for plants to take up.
So plants have to, plants can only take up nutrition
that's broken down by anaerobics.
They actually, those little tiny hair roots actually have
the ability to create an anaerobic environment.
But if you've got one built in, that's going to create
a lot more opportunity for the plant to be able to feed better.
guys have not seen Remy yet he never comes oh he's
so pretty i show you uh you've not seen his
brother Randy was talking about he mixed blue
ball and echo complete over dirt should i still cap
it with sand i actually did uh randy like everything i put
in there no matter what like
i've got stratum and some other things in here
and i put sand on top of it you can you don't
here we're back yeah i came
back i've gone back i've got
a bad connection here i don't know why
it does that but it usually comes back you don't have
to cap if you're using some
um substrates that are not organic
and that's kind of the key if it's an organic substrate
and you really want to cap it to keep the organics out
of the water column otherwise you wind up
with a lot of nutrition in the water column
and that promotes algae growth obviously it will also
promote growth for those plants that take
their nutrition directly from the water column
like Anubias, Javafern, and the like.
Nevertheless,
if you are able to keep nutrition in the substrate
and keep the water column relatively free of nutrition,
it'll give you a better, healthier environment.
It'll be less prone to disease, less prone to pollution,
to the water fouling
and so forth. So try to cap
if the substrate is not organic
then you can use that as a cap. You may need to make
it an inch deeper than otherwise
if it's coarser than sand in order
to ensure that the water does not
get uh water does not easily pass through it now
the purpose of sand is to slow down
the water passage through the sand
to the point where the oxygen is pretty well used up
by the time that water gets down two inches or so
Father Fish, Dr. Nance said he sent you some photos at 4:30.
He's wondering if you would...
Yes.
I'm recommending another video.
Oh, no, my phone just froze up.
Doreen, I'm recommending another video for you.
She's having some frustration with her tank and the ammonia and lots
of advice that she was seeing that has been frustrating to her.
I've got to restart my phone.
But she wants to add ammonia lock every two days
to combat the ammonia in her tank not being cycled.
I will bet you dollars to donuts that you
do not have enough sand cap in that tank to prevent
the pollution from leaching into the water.
that's about the only thing that would cause
that kind of substantial persistent
ammonia build up. Put an
inch or two of sand in the tank
and that will resolve the problem.
Three.
I love three inches.
It's the perfect
that's the name how to create a perfect aquarium
the first time you try i i've suggested that video
and provided the link father fish
so emily is saying that uh her city water currently has one
ppm ammonia straight out of the tap actually what you have
is uh um you have chloramine
You have ammonia that is added to the city water
to create a chloramine molecule.
It combines with the chlorine to create
a liquid molecule that will not gas off,
which means when you add the chlorinator,
dechlorinator, which you need to add double strength,
it will break the bond and get rid of the chlorine.
it will not get rid of the ammonia the ammonia
then needs to dissipate if it's one ppm of ammonia
that's really not enough to be concerned about
that's that below one ppm is zero ppm so one ppm
is the lowest ammonia solution you can possibly
have the next lowest is zero no ammonia i would
not worry about one ppm of ammonia it's not going
to hurt a thing particularly if you have
plants in the tank if you have a deep substrate
in the tank that ammonia is going to disappear
rather quickly all right um she just has gravel
so that's in her 20 her current 20 setup she just
has gravel well add two inches of sand maybe three maybe three mary
and jess said three
well and if the sand moves around so it's nicer to have three
because it'll cover it more evenly
Hello, the Carver family.
And it's great to plant it.
It's like the perfect amount to not breach, because you don't want
to breach that line where the sand meets the soil.
Give you more.
I want to ask Karina a question.
Karina is saying, just plants doing really good, but not cycled yet.
How do you know your tank is not cycled?
What do you mean by that?
John Larson is asking, did you remove the jelly
and fertilizer around the roots when you put new plants in your tank?
I have one point zero for the longest time.
Corrine, ignore it.
Ignore it.
It's of no significance whatsoever.
eventually as the tank
gets old enough
it will create enough nitrifying bacteria to burn
off ammonia at the first
site of it. For now it's not at a
point where it is in any way
an issue. Did you guys see what Jason said?
I did. I was reading it. That's what I
was wondering about the fish to read those.
it's got a couple of comments there comments
maybe where did it start at um 6 28 read them
back joey was there one before that 629 i think
no i think you've got it that's 629 yeah so 629
basically says i'm seeing an odd die off
in my tanks only the mollies bodies are fine angels
fine zebras fine parameters are within good ranges what what
is dying the mollies are dying
The rest of the fish are fine.
The platies and angels and zebras are fine.
The mollies are dying
Mollies are a brackish water fish.
If you have soft acid water, they're not going to do well.
They are raised mostly in Florida in hard alkaline water.
We need to look at the condition of your water.
My hunch is that it's neutral pH
with a hardness of well under 100.
If that's true, then your water is simply not hard enough.
You can solve that in a number
of different ways without hurting the other fish.
You can add some crushed coral, or you can add some calcium powder.
You can add a cuttlebone just floated in there.
There are any number of ways to get calcium in the water.
If your pH is tending to drop, then you need carbonates.
Carbonates hold the pH stable, and that could be another issue.
You can also add salt to the tank.
I typically do not recommend salt
because it's really hard to adjust it when you do water changes.
And you don't want to add much.
A level tablespoon per five gallons
of water is more than enough.
You just want to barely raise that PPM level.
So a couple of things you can do.
my hunch is that's the reason you're having trouble
with mollies it could be something
else but that's about the most common problem
if all of the other fish are doing well and if you
need any more videos you can go over to my channel
and go to the Father Fish playlist
those are all my favorite ones from Father Fish sorry
Petroman. I want you to all pay attention to Petroman.
Petroman has a very different approach
to fish keeping than I do.
And he is extremely successful.
Basically, his approach is a far
more scientific far more management related
approach for example he uses RODI water that's
pure water with no minerals in it of any kind
to which he adds minerals at a very specific rate
very specific level in order to get precisely
the mineral content that he wants if this is
an approach that you want to take i recommend you
be in touch with Petroman he's one of the leading
people on these uh streams on these boards
who knows how to do this and is able to do it
extremely effectively
so you know there is no conflict between what he's doing
and what i'm doing they're simply two completely
different approaches mine is for the lazy fish
keeper is or you're
and you have a you have a super sticker
from jason i don't want to kill my
fish because i forgot something or alex is here hello alex
and i'd like to thank um Lori and
jewel for dropping links again tonight for doing
a wonderful job thank you jason very much yeah
thank you as ever mary we need
to sing our i found my way
i found my way i can't sing very good tonight
my lighter oh hey bogey hey
because who which one
is that that's Bogey I'm
gonna have to update
that song to every evening oh look at the face
y'all gonna make me break out a puppy I've got
to see Jordy's beautiful self
and Bogey of a call well normally you guys have the animals and
nowhere to be seen they just all
of a sudden decide they have to crash the party I think
that sounds good Karina Kareem Remy never comes up
to me unless he wants to be fed
you don't see him in the morning because he's been fed
and he's like sleeping somewhere that
would be good Kareem RJ's place
but I I'm kind of I'm a little bit off tonight I'm not
keeping up the chat as good as I should
be but uh Kareem says tomorrow for sure I'll do the wild
mud two inches then two to three inches of sand put water in slowly
then I have to wait for it to
cycle so I can add the fish right okay
no no no you can put fish in it right away just make
sure it's capped well
and you've got as many plants as you can stuff in there what do you
recommend for her tank right now that she's like
worried about with her guppies well that's right
and also how do you know when it's cycled
is the next question she has it right Larry D
Yeah, that's what I asked her.
And she doesn't have a good answer, does she?
Yet she's all worried about it.
Let me tell you about cycling.
Cycling is a fantasy.
It is a ghost that people chase down the calendar out
of fear that if they put their fish in the tank too soon,
they'll die.
A good friend of mine, Merle Cohen, many, many,
many years ago, Merle Cohen brought more fish
into this country than anyone else ever has.
He had one of the largest wholesale import businesses
in the country for many years.
He said
that he never acclimated fish, never.
he put his the fish that came in he put them
in his water and moved it right along he did not lose
fish from failing to acclimate they went
in hard alkaline water whatever they came out of
and unless he had a fish that was caught
in the wild out of 3.0 water he never had a problem
acclimation is for the most part
a fantasy it occurs over
a very very long period of time
as an aquarium builds up its ability to manage
waste that doesn't happen in a day or a month
or even a year that can take two three even four years
for it to really reach that level
in the meantime if you're doing moderate
water changes periodically based on having um
an ammonia buildup or a nitrate buildup
then you're controlling the environment i put fish
into brand new tanks on day two. Day two.
I do not feed those fish heavily. I feed them
extraordinarily tiny amounts of food,
because I know if I overfeed them, that will create
ammonia and the nitrate buildup.
The nitrates are not a problem. Ammonia is. If you want to
control ammonia, control feeding.
Feeding creates ammonia. Nothing else.
Excess food is what creates
an ammonia problem in the tank.
If you have a buildup of ammonia, you're feeding your fish
too much cut it back and then cut it back again
and then cut it back again if you feed your fish
an amount of food equal to the size of their eye once
a week you're giving them enough food
they do not need a lot of food every tank
that is set up as a balanced tank creates
food for the fish to eat.
That's what being cycled and being balanced means.
It means the tank is
creating food for the fish, not for big fish, for little fish.
It's creating microscopic food
like paramecium or other tiny tiny microscopic
shrimp like algae like rotifer like all of the
little things that live in the sand in the dirt
and then and on the plants all of it is food
for the fish she also has a question about
quarantining her new fish do you guys have
any advice for that pay attention where you're getting
your fish from if you're getting your fish
from a reputable store you've
been in it many times you know how they keep their fish you trust
what they're doing you do not need to to isolate
your fish if there is any question about where the
fish have come from it's always a good idea
for a few days at least to keep an eye on them just to
make sure they're okay if you're getting your fish
from a reputable supplier there is no benefit at
all to isolating your fish from your general
population okay um i think she said she gets
them from the big box stores um she doesn't have another store
to buy from right now well buying
from a big box store is a crap shoot the problem
with big box stores is they do not have protocol
for keeping their fish healthy in fact they have rather
the opposite protocols the protocols
and big box stores for keeping fish
is to get them sick and keep them sick
and sell them sick so that they can die
and you'll come back in to buy something else
when you come back to make your guarantee.
It's a perfectly atrocious, irresponsible,
ethical system that's used by virtually
every big box store in the country.
i recommend you do not buy fish from a big box
store you're buying trouble if you do um father
fish for real just came up
and she I just wanted to mention this real quick but uh for real fish
keeper said I just found out my grandmother passed away I love you all
and I wanted to get on here
but I can't hopefully I will get to talk
to y'all soon love you fish fam we love you too for real
That's the young lady that joined us the other day
I'm so sorry
I'm sorry to hear that
Did we get all Jason's answered?
We got everything?
I don't know
Did you have all of Jason's stuff?
I think so
I just wanted to make sure
I don't see anything else
He says yes
I thought that we did
Okay, just make sure
Like I said, I'm kind of swimming headed
So y'all just ignore me
We've had a lot of questions,
but I think it's always helpful for everyone.
Even when you think you're not doing great.
Hey, Coffee, what have you been up to?
I haven't seen Coffee in a day or two.
Mary, I was telling Father Fish before we came on,
I'm going to be going to my ear, nose,
and throat doctor in the morning.
Are you?
Yeah, I started getting eye pain with this cold weather
and messing with my sinuses.
And like every time I blinked, my eyelid was hurting.
oh no yeah that's not good and that just happened since you had
the the c word that when it started
or i think it's linked to my i've got like i had
an ear infection that just never really went away
and it's just yeah whenever i get a cold stuff
or weather changes putting pressure on my sinuses and
stuff i just need to get it figure it out
and address yeah yeah here's mama y'all i'm looking
at wrench stuff here she's pretty
that's moomoo okay go away you're looking at what father fishing sir wrenching oh
wrenching oh yeah there's more there's some more wrenches
that could be jason c
hello sandy it's the one i'm looking at right now
and then there were a couple others i'm
scrolling up blue jab time coffee are you talking about getting
a test i had my test this morning
he said blue jab time been running around it
was pretty interesting there's rj's place
jason jason c welcome welcome where
is uh yeah link just recommended
rj's place yeah yeah
and we got we got kareem
um there's one hey uh father
fish larry d was that
asking about um uh sandblasting sand i know i've got
the kind from tractor supply and
you know sometimes it does appear yeah it appears like it's kind
of sharp but i have
quarries and stuff and i've never had any problems
with it are there any other sandblasting sands
that you recommend or well they're all
the same thing i mean okay they're they're uh bituminous
coal a very hard coal that's ground into a powder
or into a very tiny crystal so it's
yeah it's a crystalline structure it's not going
to be a problem bacteria grows on every surface of
it and that effectively softens it i was going
to say i haven't had any problems with it and i use
it in a lot of things i got nervous
when people were saying that it can be drawn into your your
about or you know with like any magnetic properties it does
for me it does you know if my goldfish
go by and spit a mouthful of it by the intake
but other than that i haven't had any problems
with it people say things and then you're like oh no yeah going
but now my favorite sand i have
admit comes from the big box stores it's
a little expensive well i got my last bag from um
it's that imaginarium
or the um top fin black sand i absolutely love that stuff it's so clean
Red Packer is saying good evening Molly Fish
do you think it's necessary to remove fish waste
from the substrate. If you have a sand cap,
that fish waste will break down and go down into the
sand. You'll never even see it.
I have tanks that have been set up for 10 years that have
clean, perfectly clean surface, sand surface,
that have never been cleaned. I've never siphoned
moan off of them, never clean them at all.
The waste breaks down and it goes down into the
if it's not doing that, you need to add more sand
because that means it's going to full up. Add another
sand and it'll do that. It'll disappear.
You won't see it. Let me just make another comment here because
we've had a lot of questions here
And I've kind of come on a little hard about these issues.
And what I'm trying to communicate, right,
what I'm trying to communicate is do not let yourself
be bamboozled by the naysayers in the hobby who say,
oh, you have to do this just this way.
And you have to do that just this way.
are you going to kill everything they're the people
who don't know how to keep fish alive
and manage to kill most everyone they get they're speaking out
of their own experience
they have not yet learned to keep fish in a way that's natural
and healthy and and happy
And so they're uptight neurotic.
Do not let the uptight neurotics govern how you keep fish.
It'll make you crazy and you'll give it up.
If you want, as I suggested,
if you want to take a very hands-on approach with a lot of detail
and a lot of management, follow somebody like Petraman.
There are others in the hobby who do a very high level of management.
If you want to do a much lower level,
follow somebody like Alex or like me to do a more low level.
Now, alex has a lot more science behind his,
but he's doing basically the same thing I'm doing.
Lucas is another one.
Follow Lucas.
He has a very simple system, LRB.
These are all, all of us are doing basic, simple, natural systems
that essentially maintain themselves without very much effort at all.
And that's the way it ought to be.
Unless, as I said, you want to take a very diligent, intensive,
hands-on approach and be aware of every single detail.
There are those doing that.
You need to follow them.
Those are not the persnickety ones.
Those are not the ones you say, oh, don't do that.
You can't do that.
Anybody who says that doesn't know what they're talking about,
and they're trying to make themselves seem important.
Ignore them.
They're.
I hope that's clear.
Is it okay if I direct Jeff's tank's question to Petro?
Yes, because I was like, yeah, that's a question.
At 654, Father Fish.
You kind of already directed people towards Petro.
Is that okay, Petro man?
Can I do that?
Riddle Jeff is asking about um remineralizing
the RODI water and what degree hardness do you
recommend yeah i don't do it uh Petro man does it it depends
on what kind of fish you want to keep
and what condition would it keep them at that's
the whole purpose of doing it is to make is to
meet some very specific uh targets for very specific kinds of fish
so you know it's not
it's not a simple basic universal it's it's based
on your attempt to recreate a very specific
water condition for specific fish that you're trying
to create that condition uh to form
what time is it y'all it's almost time we're down i just want
