Amid controversies surrounding a Haitian-Canadian author,
Taliesin Aurelian, who was dropped by his publisher after it
was found he used artificial intelligence to write his novel,
a South African writer has defended her use of the technology.
Algorithm system is deeply built in craft, good editing,
good stories, right to market, understanding the reader promise.
And it takes the foundation that you build inside that thing,
so you're going to tell it what you want to write,
you're going to tell it who your characters are, you're going
to tell it how they connect, what beats you're going to use,
is it save the cat, is it romancing the beat, is it a thriller beat?
and it then builds the story with you step by step.
It goes character creation, then plot point creation,
beat sheet creation, chapter outline.
And then it generates the first draft
and it can generate up to five books in one go.
So you have serious cohesion, serious consistency.
Carol Hart, a pseudonym she uses to protect her real name,
has published more than 370 books in just 20 months using AI.
She says she's received thousands
of hate messages and several death threats.
I lived through the paperback to Kindle change.
I was an author right at the beginning of that.
And I saw what happened to the authors who said,
I'll never have e-books, those are not real books.
I won't do that, only paperbacks.
And it was a hill they chose to die on.
You can't bet against tech in today's world, I think.
Most of her books are romances,
and Hart estimates she's earned more than
a million dollars with them so far this year.
