I have such exciting news!! I am publishing an instructional book on paint pouring!
"The Art of Paint Pouring" by Amanda VanEver will be published on May 21, 2019. It is currently available through pre-order through Amazon and the publishers website:
This is my first painting with the budget supplies! These colors were a lot of fun and the final piece turned out really well for being 50 cent paint. Purple and some teals look so well together.
Everything for this one painting was less than $10 Check out video 76 for supplies and where I purchased everything.
Okay, so if you're watching, in my last video,
I just went over acrylic pouring on a budget.
I broke it down based on the money that I spent
for how much it was going to be to do two different paintings.
It's less than $10 per painting.
So if you'd like to see that video, check that out.
I'm going to use some of my colors for two different paintings.
So I'm just going to open these up.
I have canvas that are 7 by 14 inch.
I really like that size.
I haven't poured on these before
so I'm going to try
this out to see
how it works.
I got from
Walmart along
with my cups
and stir sticks. I got Mod Podge from the dollar store
which I'm going to be using as my pouring
medium. I have a little bit of water to help thin the paint.
These craft paints are already quite
fluid so you don't necessarily have to add a lot of water to them
but I like to make sure that
they're the consistency that I like
so I always have some water available. And then I have just a
plate that I'm going to set some cups
on and then well actually I don't even need some cups
but this is what I'm going to use
also from the dollar store to catch my leftover paint. So I'm
going to set one
canvas aside
for now.
Three cents a piece.
First ones
that I'm going to use
are some teal colors and a purple
and then I may light beige depending
on how I feel I'm going to
mix it up because I'm going to use it in another painting
but I do want to show I have people ask
how I mix my paints so I'm just going to show
that these cups are a little bit smaller so we'll see
how much I can fit in them and to mix colors
together to get the shade that I like so I'm
actually planning on the purple I'm not going to mix anything with it.
As you can see it's a little
fluid but not it may need just a little bit
of water especially since I plan on adding some
Mod Podge just to help it go a little bit further.
Especially on a 7 by 14 I want to make sure that
I have enough paint to cover my entire surface.
So as you can see I didn't add a ton of Mod Podge
but I added enough just to give it a little bit
of help it go a little bit further now it is as
you can see quite thick so I will be adding some water
to help thin it down and get the consistency
that I like so I'm going to add just half my stir stick
for each cup get some of my supplies out of
the way there's a little bit of purple paint
left I used probably two-thirds of the bottle
from the weight. That's what it feels like.
I don't know. I don't know if I'm going to use up
more of it. I might save it for now.
I do want some of this Key West. I like that color. And
what I'm going to do is actually mix.
I want to darken it up just a little bit. So I'll mix a
little bit of this Tuscan Teal
with it and see how that looks.
And I like that a lot. That's
actually similar to something that I mixed up last week for a painting.
It's a really pretty
color it's not too bright and it's almost
when you mix the two together it almost has like a soft
gray tint to it and I really like that it's not too bright
but it's really pretty so I'm really
happy with that one let's do one
more probably a little darker
and I'm going to add some of this
cloudless color to it it is a more of a light blue it's
not as much of that turquoise green
that's still really
pretty it's nice
and dark still
that blue lightened
it up a little bit
but as you can see this one it has that more green tint to it
and this one is more blue
I like the differences so I'm going to just keep
those as is so I may just because of the amount
I'm going to mix up a little bit more paint here
to make sure that I have enough since I have a
larger canvas and like I said
to make it go a little further
we're actually going to mix up
just a little bit more of this color too
so we have a decent amount of each of them to make them
go a little bit further i'm going to add some more of that Mod Podge
and then i will add water to
get the consistency that i like
and once i get most of that poured
out what i tend to do is add
water and shake it around just to get as much paint
as i can out i don't want to waste it so
even if i don't use it this time
around i still have paint left
in some of these bottles so i
stir it i also scrape the sides
to make sure that i'm getting all
of that color integrated in and
i'm going to add a little bit more of this Key West color
and lighten this one up just a little
bit keep it that more
greenish teal instead
of the blue okay
so i have those and then
i already
added
a little bit
to the
purple i'll
add a little
bit more
so this
bottle i'm
now calling
empty it
actually looks pretty empty
so I'm not wasting any
and if I don't spill it are some air bubbles
in it from shaking but what you can do is really lightly torch
your painting after to help get some
of those air bubbles out
and we're just stirring to get all
that color mixed in with the paint
and then adding water to the Mod Podge I actually
don't know I don't think I'm going to have to add
too much more water to these that seems like it
was just enough that my consistency is pretty good
that's about
where i like
it some people
compare it
to honey or heavy
cream this one
may need just
a little bit of water it's a little bit thicker
so i add water slowly i'll put a little bit in
mix it together get it all incorporated
and then decide if i need more water i don't add a lot all
at once because if it gets too thin
then you're just going to have to start adding more paint
and you can mix
up a lot more
than you want
to use that way
and just
a little bit
more that's
pretty
good just
a little more
so we have our
two colors here
still debating
i really like
this one
but i i think they're too similar
so i'm going to add just a little bit more of the lighter color
i don't want them to completely blend together
when i pour i do want some contrast so we'll add
this in and then if you have other colors
of paint if you want to lighten it up even more
you could always add in white to help I'm
not going to I'm going to keep it with what I have
from my acrylic pouring on a budget video
and then since I added more paint I'm going to add
just a touch of water to help thin that down
and as you can see I am very messy and spill on myself
a lot but that happens it's okay okay
so I have those two colors
mixed up I'm going to set them
side and do the purple and then I'm
also debating I think I want one more color
but I can't decide if I want
a darker I think I'm actually gonna go dark I'm
going to use some burnt umber I think
that's gonna be really pretty and give
it more of an earthy tone with the colors
that I'm already using I'm not
going to use too much I think I want
that purple to shine through more than
the brown but we'll have enough here
a little bit of the Mod Podge kind
of move those out of my way
and now we
are going
to pour so I
have my plate
here just
to kind of try
and catch some
of the
paint and how do we want to do this I think this
one is going to be a dirty pour and the next
colors that I may do in the next video I'll
with the paint from the acrylic pouring on a budget
video I have another set of colors I think I may
do those as either a dip or a flip cup so I'm
actually going to do two pours especially since
these are all the same size cup I don't want to
overfill them too much so I'm going to do two
and just pour your paint in however you want to
and whatever layering oh that's really pretty
already those colors mixing and if you have
leftover paint, save it for something else.
Don't throw it out. Don't add too much paint to your
canvas. If you have leftovers,
find something around your house to pour on. I always save
paint since there's so much liquid in it.
You can save it for a couple of days and you won't
have an issue. Sometimes I use mine after a couple of weeks
and if you just add more water
or pouring medium to it you can really get it flowing again
so it just depends if you have a
place that you can store
it and save it I would
recommend doing that and
I can already tell I'm
probably going to have some leftover paint I'm probably going
to have a little bit of purple
so I'm going to save that to pour on something
else and I'll have a little bit of the teal
leftover but I do want to make sure
that I have enough paint
for my canvas I definitely think I
will so what I'm going to do now is just take one of my stir sticks
and just do one stir through it
you don't want to sit there and mix it all up
or else it's just going to turn into mud but I do
like to give it oh that's really pretty I do like
to give it a little swirl and now we will pour
and tilt and one at a time we're both together
we're going to do both together that's really
pretty so you can tilt
this any direction
that you want I'm going
to try
and keep most of it
over the plate
not all of it
will be over
in that corner
oh shush buddy
just a little
bit that way
and then i'm gonna stop i really like this so my paint
was thick enough that i have really good
coverage around the edges even
though i'm using craft paint i have some really pretty designs in
here i'm a big fan of the kind of stone earthy looking striations
so even though i did a dirty
pour I still got some of that design really well.
I'm hoping that I can do
something similar with the other colors that I have
but for right now I am going
to leave this one and wash my hands
and then get the camera down and take some
pictures. Thank you!
