The Suns Off-Season Plans REVEALED...
1 Video View·Oct 23, 2026
After a disappointing season where the expectations did
not meet the reality for the Phoenix Suns
front office players and fans,
owner Mat Ishbia has spoken out about this team's plans revealed
for this year's offseason.
We're going to be breaking down what Mat Ishbia had to say
and looking at, are these
the smart moves for the Phoenix Suns
or should they be doing some different things?
All that and more on this episode of Suns Digest.
I'm Bruce Velez before we dive in on all
this Phoenix Suns news we'd like to let you guys know
that around 96 percent of our viewers are not subscribed
so if you guys want to make sure

the Phoenix Suns with this crazy offseason
hit the subscribe button as this is the place
for you without further ado though let's dive
into the topic at hand make sure to grab a snack
as it's going to be a jam-packed episode but the
first thing that we're going to be breaking down
is the Suns offseason plans ladies and gentlemen
that's right like I mentioned in the introduction it
was a disappointing season for the Phoenix Suns
their expectations after trading for Bradley Beal
and having this three-headed juggernaut monster
was to win the Pacific Division and be one of the top three
or top four teams in the Western
Conference but unfortunately for the Phoenix Suns due to some injuries
and just not having the team
really all there for the most of the season
and not having a really complete roster from top to
bottom they finished with 49 wins but finished in the sixth seed
and unfortunately got swept by the
Minnesota Timberwolves so now with the offseason approaching us
and with the offseason fully here
now we are going to be looking at what the Phoenix Suns should
do and as Mat Ishbia breaks down the
offseason we have a tweet here from Michael A. Scotto
who works for Hoop Sight saying on Mat
Ishbia saying that the other 29 GMs across
the league that 26 would like this team for their
whole team their draft picks
and everything is as is the house is not on fire saying that the Suns
earn a great position and it's not hard to fix
which I think is a little bit questionable I
don't believe that all 29 teams 26 of them would trade them
for the Suns roster the Suns definitely
have some discrepancies having a lot of money tied up
to these three players so I do think
He's just trying to hype up the fans
and basically just talking out of his behind over here on the disc
because a lot of other teams have better draft capital,
have better push for the future.
But Matt Ashiba is a guy who is for the win now
and win now culture only,
and we'll dive into that in a little bit.
But like I mentioned, we have five takeaways
from the Suns' end-of-the-season interview
with Matt Ashiba and James Jones,
and we're going to be breaking down all of that here,
looking at these five takeaways that they have for the Phoenix Suns.
Let me know what you guys think down below in the comments section
about Matt Ashiba's comments about this team trading 29
of the other GMs, 26 of them would take this roster.
Because truly, I think that is a little bit blasphemous.
But the first thing that we're going to be diving
in at end is possibly Frank Vogel still gone.
And like we mentioned in a bunch of our other videos, if you guys want
to check them out with me and CJ or just me by myself, we kind
of dive in and look at how Frank Vogel's future is still unclear.
And as we look at this article,
when a team with championship expectation gets the broom treatment
in the first round, completely running it back isn't an option.
Usually in these situations, the first name on the chopping block,
or it could be the scapegoat, is the head coach.
As there's been differing opinions on Frank Vogel's future in Phoenix,
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and the Athletic's Shams Charania both said
that the Suns would consider making a coaching change.
but when Frank Vogel was asked about
this he responded with I am got the full support of
Matt Eshiba here and I feel confident that I will be returning
so a little bit of question
marks there a little bit of questionable stuff
in the air now honestly what are my thoughts on
Frank Vogel I think he's a great defensive-minded coach
but I don't think that he can work with
this offense we've had quotes where we've broken
it down Kevin Durant speaking out saying how he's
has been a utilized shooter in the corner
not really utilized as a primary player in this
offense he felt like he was thrown away as a second
or third option for this team sitting in
the corner and again the adjustments were not great I know the fans
and myself saw it on Reddit
everybody freaking out about how the fact
that the Suns didn't make adjustments till late game in the
third quarter or even into game four game one
in game two they just stuck with their game plan and
ran it back and it clearly didn't work in game one
so why even try it in game two I have no
idea so there are some question marks
with Frank Vogel I don't believe that after his first year
he should be fired I do think that there should
be some other teeterings around this roster and I
truly think it was a roster construction problem I
do believe that I would blame James Jones for
trading for Bradley Beal and bringing him
in here I did not think it was going to work regardless
but that's besides the fact I do think
that Frank Vogel could return as a coach but with Shams and
with Adrian Wojnarowski you know being those insiders
and kind of dropping those hints and
rumors it could be on the expectation
so again we'll have to wait and see in my honest opinion
I would like to see Frank Vogel come back just for one last season
but who knows maybe get a
younger coach get a little bit
of a younger experienced coach to run this offense and that
could be the solution let me know what you guys think
on Frank Vogel the next one we're gonna be
breaking down is no excuses
and like we mentioned the Phoenix Suns they have multiple answers but
no good ones for an underwhelming year they're saying
that they felt like probably didn't feel
like at times during Ishiba's 26 minutes availability
but no one in the organization
is satisfied with this season
but Ishiba actually sees it as a positive that the fans are so upset
with them Jones and the rest of the Suns saying
that i love that people are frustrated that we
didn't win the NBA championship because guess what
so are we we're disappointed we want to win
an NBA championship and it's one thing to win 49 games
and get knocked out in the first round of
the playoffs and everyone's high flying yeah
that's not what we're coming in Phoenix and it
makes me happy and that's something that i want
to mention as well i like to hear that Ishiba is
not happy obviously 49 win season is huge in the NBA
but with a stacked Western Conference with a
bunch of young promising teams like
the Minnesota Timberwolves like the Oklahoma City Thunder at the
top of the ranks and even some young teams
who are kind of near the bottom the Houston Rockets
were a nice young surprising team the Spurs
are a team that are looking to make trades and could
possibly get better with Victor Wembanyama there
are a lot of changes that could be happening in
this Western Conference like Matt Ishiba said there
are multiple answers that they have but
you know they're not going to be satisfactory they're
not going to work they need to work
come back and be ready to go
and if we want to look at this payroll here with this team it's
going to be very very difficult
to move around some contracts we already mentioned the Devin
Booker trades the Kevin Durant trades Bradley Beal has
a no trade clause but looking after that
obviously Nurkic is a contract that could
be available to move maybe Nazir Little maybe a guy
like Eric Gordon but we're looking
at some younger guys we're gonna have to retool around the roster
and try to find some changes it's definitely going
to be a little bit difficult for the Suns
to build that true championship roster unless they move off
of one of their stars to free up
some space and move off of being a second apron team
the next sorry not that one the next one
we're going to be bringing up is they are close
and the Mad Ishiba believes that the Suns are
close to winning a title speaking of belief Mad Ishiba
and James Jones do not share most fans
pessimism about the state of the Suns saying i think some
of the narratives around our team
and our organization maybe are incorrect Ishiba said
my perspective is this we're in great position
not a good position but a great position
so Ishiba is very very confident in this team again
willing handily coming back
and being a top powerhouse now they did make the finals not
too long ago but ever since making the finals it's
been a step back step back step back and
they have not seen the finals since
then they tried to make these changes to the roster they
got rid of eight and they got rid
of Monty Williams got rid of CP last year and this was
supposed to be the revolutionary roster that was supposed
to bring the Suns back to that start of
after trading for Kevin Durant in the middle
of the season ultimately it just has not done that
Do I think that this team is good with these three stars?
For sure, but they definitely need better role players.
They need that playmaker to set up the offense
and get the game plan started,
the offensive identity game plan.
They also need another big man, a rebounding big.
Some help down there,
and they desperately need a wing for wing depth,
in my opinion.
I think that some guys that we talked about,
me and CJ, Andre Drummond, possibly as a backup big.
I know we brought up TJ McConnell as a point guard.
Those are some of the guys that we like.
If you guys want to learn more about some players that we like,
check out our video breaking down the game for loss
on the channel you guys can kind of get some
insight on that and i guess there'll be more
and more videos coming with that but again let me know
your thoughts down below in all these comments
because some of them are a little bit crazy here
obviously they believe they're winning they're close
to winning a title again with all these
young teams just getting better and better
and having all this draft capital i truly don't know
if the suns are in that same stratosphere as everybody else
and like the fans are thinking
i'm kind of in a similar position here i don't want us
to take some steps back and steps back
and steps back and then boom we're still
a second apron team we have no movable contracts and then
we're basically just stuck in no man's land
with our stars asking out that cannot happen so again
they got to make some moves around the edges
and yeah they could still be a comparable team they
could still be a top playoff team Kevin Durant Devin Booker two
of the league's best stars in a
playoff scenario they're going to come up
and they're going to show out for you but they have
to have the team built around them to do that the next thing
that we're going to be mentioning is
continuity as Matt Ishiba
and James Jones believe that continuity will address most of the Suns
issues saying that they downplayed it on Wednesday even
the higher-ups could ignore how discombobulated
and discouraged Phoenix looked when adversity hit
and Ishiba just had to say I just thought
under stress a lot of those times you saw the lack
of chemistry the lack of cohesion and the
uncertainty said James Jones that's something
that you believe that you have to accelerate
for us as a team for our players they just need
to be better at that but it comes with time and
it comes with a conscious effort to rectify
that which kind of what goes with what Kevin Durant
had to say as well Kevin Durant mentioned
the other day that teams like Boston and teams like
Denver and teams like New York have all played
with each other for multiple multiple years and
they've all had their stars you know kind
of working with their intangible guys yeah some
new pieces have been added on the edges
but the main cores have been you know stuck there together
and for this Phoenix Suns team obviously Book,
Beal, and KD this was their first year playing
together and they obviously at the beginning
of the year dealing with Bradley Beal's injury didn't
necessarily all get to play with Booker being out
for a little bit KD being out for a little bit
here and there throughout the stretches this team did
not get as many looks as they thought they
would or as the whole NBA thought they would all three on the court
which is truly why they could
not play together could not get this offensive going
do I think that that's fully going to change
it no but having that chemistry
and having that teamwork would be beneficial for this Phoenix
Suns team and the last part that we're going
to be bringing up is that the Suns are still willing
to be able to trade more picks as we got some more news
on that as do not get attached to those
first round picks ladies and gentlemen
for any Suns fan hoping this team starts prioritizing
drafting and youth development don't hold
your breath on that one with title contenders over
the last decade like the Nuggets and Warriors
and Spurs supplementing their established core
with young talent drafted late in the first round,
the Suns have largely struck that aspect of team building.
If we want to look at this quote here
from Evan Sidery that came out today,
we can see that the Suns plan to shop the number 22 overall selection
in this year's draft and their 2031 first round draft pick
in trade talks this offseason,
which are officially eligible to be dealt on draft night.
Suns owner Mat Ishbia views draft picks
as assets for established players
instead of trying to develop young talent he says it looks
to the it if fans look to the future and
say hey i really like that 2031 draft pick
because maybe the seventh grader is going to be really
good and we're going to draft them
and one day he's going to be a player you ain't going to like
the Phoenix Suns because we're going to say draft picks
are going to get good players Phoenix's 2031
pick could be one of the most valuable on the market
this offseason simply due to their long
term future holding at so much in the unknown
and this is something that i think is a little bit
concerning for Phoenix Suns fans now obviously
this team wants to get better they're going to
have to use that draft capital
so i would expect a trade on draft night using this 22nd overall
pick from the Phoenix Suns here to possibly move up
or even get a decent player maybe attaching it
alongside one of their younger stars if you want
to look at the payroll possibly a guy like
David Roddy or maybe even a guy maybe even a guy like Drew Eubanks
or possibly even a guy like
Josh Okogie even though I really do like Josh Okogie
for his defense and what he's brought
for this Phoenix Suns team you could throw one
of those guys with a pick or possibly even two of
those guys with a pick to try and get someone here
but the one thing that is scaring me when
looking at this is the 2031 pick
because we want to look at this payroll once again here Kevin
Durant is only locked into 2025-2026 Bradley Beal
is locked into 2026-2027 Devin Booker is locked
into 27-28 so if the Suns do give up
that 2031 pick regardless of who is here at what career in
their age starting in 28-2029 none of these guys
of the big three will be under roster so that
the 2028-29 season 29-2030 season 2030-2031 season 2031-2032 like three
or four seasons
excuse me 2020-2030 I mean but those three to four seasons
who knows if Devin Booker's here
who knows if Kevin Durant's here obviously
with Kevin Durant getting older and older in age I'm
guessing he's not gonna be with Bradley Beal you know getting towards
the end of his contracts I'm
not sure he's gonna want to be here either Devin Booker
if the Suns do keep him and do not trade
with all the rumors throughout this offseason he could
be that only star here and yeah he can have
some other pieces around him
but this team is going to be old at that point and we still won't
have those picks for that future that's what scares me
because I could see this Phoenix Suns team
turning into what we see with the Nets this season having
no draft capital because they gave it up
for all their stars and then boom what happens
is is Booker leaves KD leaves Beal leaves and now you
have no draft capital and no great talents
and now you basically can't get in good capital and
no one wants to come play for you
because you have no rising star or no fun young piece or no just
great culture in general you're just a franchise that has nothing
and you're just moving through
the motions which i desperately don't want
to see i think Mat Ishbia was going a little bit
too in with this phoenix suns team to try
to guarantee a championship to kind of secure his
job and i do believe that Mat Ishbia is leaving the next owner
or next person who is in charge
with the gm a tough decision if they do give up all these picks
but let me know what you guys
