I have such exciting news!! I am publishing an instructional book on paint pouring!
"The Art of Paint Pouring" by Amanda VanEver will be published on May 21, 2019. It is currently available through pre-order through Amazon and the publishers website:
Thank you to DecoArt for providing me with some free supplies!! I am so excited to try out their new pouring medium and see how it works compared to other brands. They also gave me paint so everything I am using in this video is DecoArt. I mixed a few colors to make a rainbow palette and decided to do one painting without silicone and a set of coasters with silicone so that I could see how it creates cells.
The tree ring pour turned out beautifully and the coasters made some fantastic cells. I can't wait to try out more of this medium with some of my other favorite paints to see what I can create!!
So this is the DecoArt Pouring Medium.
They sent me some free supplies so I'm going to test it out
and I just wanted to show the consistency of it.
It's a really nice consistency. It's a little bit
thinner than like Floetrol.
It's really similar to the Sargent Art Gloss Medium that I use.
So I'm really excited to try this out and see what it looks like.
They also gave me a bottle
of their clear top coat and then
as you can see they gave me four different colors so I have red
white blue and yellow
so I'm going to do a painting with these I'm probably going to mix
them together and do a rainbow color with them
so I'll do red orange yellow green blue and make up
a little bit of purple but I'm only going to be using the DecoArt
and their pouring medium
and
I
will
probably
be
adding
a
little
bit
of
water
to
it
all
of
my
colors
I
have
six
colors
mixed up they're all with the DecoArt colors
that they provided me i've added the pouring
medium to them and with how fluid the paint already
is along with that pouring medium i'm
actually not going to add any water
to this so i think it just depends on how you like your
consistency if you like it thicker you may need
to use some other products but if you like this
nice very smooth consistency where it just goes right off your stick.
This looks like it's going
to work really well.
So what I'm going to do is probably put my camera up.
I just wanted to show
the mixing process so that you can see what it looks like.
This was the orange that I mixed
and then I did the green and then the purple.
So I have, this one is a little bit thicker but I
think I'm going to leave it because I still, I still like that.
So I'm going to put my camera
up and then I'm going to grab a canvas.
Then we'll do a pour with this. Um, just a wood circle. I
really like painting on the circle.
So I'm going to do that. I also have smaller four inch wood
circles that I use to make coasters.
Um, if you'd like to see where I purchased these, I do have
these linked in my Amazon affiliate link
in the description of the video. So you can check that
out. I'm also going to link the product
of the pouring medium that I received in the video so
that you can check that out
and see if you want to try that for yourself. So what I'm going to do
debating on how I want to do my pour.
See there's no silicone
in this so I'm not really expecting
any cells but I may only use a portion of the paint
and then add some silicone in to see what
happens
so we're
just going
to do a dirty
pour with
this actually
I might do a
tree ring pour
and see what kind of design I can get with those I'm going
to save the rest of the paint and like
I said maybe add some
silicone in it just
to see if we can get
some cells but here
we go all right
that looks really cool with that yellow
and some of those colors so i'm just going to slowly tilt
so that orange
is really showing
up the green
is really
showing up so
the consistency
is pretty
good for this it's not too thin it didn't all
blend together as you can see still get some
really nice color definition in there obviously the purple
and the blue got a little bit lost but
but you can see sections of it throughout.
One way to probably help that
is you could stir your paint next time.
I didn't stir at all.
I just let the paint do what it wanted to do
when I poured it out.
Making sure my edges are good.
And then I think what I'm gonna do
is add a little bit of silicone to it,
which I'm using, it's actually, I should say dimethicone.
It's the Argan Oil of Morocco.
It's a hair serum.
And then I'm going to do some flip cups on some coasters
and see what
that looks like.
Okay, so I have my torch.
It's just a butane torch.
I actually got this one from Home Depot.
So if you're looking for them,
you can get them at different home improvement stores
or online.
I've added silicone to each of my colors,
and I think what I'm gonna do is a flip cup
and then torch it on the coasters
to see if I can get some cells.
I don't want things to get too muddy,
so I may not use all six colors on each coaster,
but we'll see how it turns out.
I have plenty of paint that if I don't like
the way one turns out, I can paint over it.
I'll
do
on
this
one.
And with these, what I am going to do
before I do the flip cup is just stir it.
Oh, and if I don't drop it, stir it a little bit,
and then I'll do my flip cup.
Probably need some different larger cups.
We're gonna do that.
Ooh, it is making some cells.
We're gonna torch it, and then I'll tilt a little bit.
Okay, so that already has
made some pretty nice cells.
I do want, I like that blue right in the middle,
so I'm going to pour off some of these others.
And then I will get a, I'll take some close-up pictures
because this looks like it's going to work.
The consistency is really good.
The colors look good.
So that, not sure if it's the pouring medium that they have,
but that is going to make some really nice lacing.
I think if you like to do swipes, from what I can see here,
I think it's going to work out very well for swipes.
If you use that pouring medium,
use their paint, and then add in the silicone,
that could make some really beautiful lacing and cells.
I'm going to do a similar one.
I like those colors.
I'm probably going to do just a little bit less red and orange,
but I like that blue and the green.
Stick with more of those.
and when I added
the silicone I added just
a touch of water probably a
tablespoon maybe less in each
of the colors just to help make sure that it
was thin enough to create cells I really didn't add too much
but it seems like
the consistency is pretty good
so flip that and again
it's already making cells
before I even do anything but I do want to torch it
and see what else I can make
and that would did
pretty well too
when I get
pictures I'll
show you there's
some really nice cells in there
so so far this seems to be working out so
we're going to do on
some purple in one
of these my green
I'm not gonna do any
orange in this one I think I'll do these last two
with just the other colors give
it my little swirl I'll see what
this looks like with the purple if it doesn't
look good we
can always
get rid
of it yeah I'm
not really
liking the
purple in
this one so i may i may do one more flip cup over it
and because i don't like the purple i'm going
to get a new cup it might
have just started getting
a little bit too muddy in there we'll
do this last one
and then we'll
look into
redoing that one
as you can see i'm
not torching
for very
long it's not taking a lot to get those cells to pop up
so i'm liking that um one thing i noticed
if you torch too long it'll break up cells i have
that problem not sure if other people have that
problem so I try not to keep the heat on it
or else you will burn the paint this
one looks really good so what I can see
from these it looks like the orange is
creating some really great cells
so you'll see that lacing especially in
this one in this one we're gonna scrape this one off
and redo it I do not like
it but I do like what came off so I
might actually save that yeah that's
pretty cool I'm gonna torch
this a little bit just a second yep I can so I
mean working on freezer paper once
this dries I'll be able to peel it off and I
can use that for pendants. That looks pretty cool.
So we'll just save that. I'll try not to tilt
into it. We'll
do a little
swirl here
and then pour
this last one
and torch it.
Oh, I really
like that one. The green is finally popping up over here
with some of the blue. That looks really
cute. Okay,
so I will take the camera down.
I'll get some pictures
of them wet and then I will also
get some pictures with them dry and we'll see how this goes.
I think so so far I like it. I like the
consistency of the pouring medium I think
with the consistency of the DecoArt paint you really
don't need a lot of water I added just a little bit
to make sure that it was a good consistency
with the silicone to help create cells
when I've had my paint too thick before it won't create cells
so as we've seen from the other one without
the silicone it really kept the definition of those
tree rings that we did with these we're getting some really great cells
so like I said I'll take
some pictures and so far I'm really liking this one
