We believe strongly, as most Canadians do,
that our athletes are our greatest ambassadors
and we want to support them every step of the way,
whether they're jumping in the pool for their first swimming lesson
or jumping back onto the podium after defending an Olympic gold medal,
as we saw a couple of athletes do in Milano Cortina this past winter.
But today, we're continuing the work by investing more
than $155 million with our national sport organizations
as part of that $755 million investment, and that includes
an additional $60 million for this year through an amendment.
This investment will increase access
and deliver more sport programming to all Canadians.
It'll enhance elite athlete development.
It'll help Team Canada compete at the highest level
in advanced safe sport and sport integrity,
while strengthening a sport system that Canadians will trust
and believe in every step of the way.
I strongly believe that we're in a new era of sport in our country,
one that provides the opportunity to lead,
to grow, to innovate, and to improve,
which are all virtues strongly held by Canadian athletes
and Canadian families as well.
This is only the beginning.
We're moving forward towards an inflection point
to build Canada strong through sport.
The Playground to Podium Summit is coming in just a couple of weeks,
November 9th and 10th, right here in Ottawa.
It's a place where sport, private industry,
and the philanthropic sectors are going to come together to advance
the new era of Canadian sport together with five key objectives.
That's transform, invest, align, participate, and deliver.
Prime Minister Mark Carney has been clear.
We must build Canada strong, and we're doing that with sport,
from playground to podium.
