-- Using my Axe for a bowdrill/
Tree uses
AI Generated·May contain errors
There's a basswood tree right here.
This is gonna be I'm gonna try and do a couple challenges in one here a
couple challenges being
identify
Two trees. This is only gonna be one this is gonna be
basswood and the uses are gonna be I'm gonna eat some buds
from it like the the leaflets and a bow drill from it and
The bow drill is gonna be just using my axe
and that's the second challenge
So I'm gonna try and incorporate them both into one. So I want
to take this dead this dead standing basswood down with my axe
Before
I get
that bow
drill
going or
attempt
to it
anyways
I thought I'd show the other use for the basswood leaf
or for the basswood tree and it's edible
So the camera they're actually pretty good tastes
kind of like a lettuce like like a green anyways,
they're good for sure
Oh, it's definitely drier down at the bottom.
Well near the near the bottom.
This is why it's good for cordage
Well I didn't do it there
but it rips off in long pieces like that good
characteristic cordage
just split down
and see what we're working
with good and dry
and unlike most punk most back foot it's
not punky there's a very very good
candidate for a bow drill I haven't had luck
in this particular woods with the
bow drill for a long time I've been able
to find the right woods but this looks
very promising and the bark can use
as a tinder bundle as well as the as well as
making cordage from it
so that's gonna be a good base try to make the spindle
out of this one
might take
a minute here we
go bearing block
from sassafras
bark all-natural sassafras bark we use for bearing block
so it would make the
divot same deal
as the knife use
the tip this is gonna
be my bow
Happy
about
doing it
because
this thing
is going
to take
forever to
get back on.
But then there's the brakes.
It's the original ones
that came with the boots.
I had planned on replacing them with paracord
but haven't gotten around to it just yet.
Now we shall see.
Should be a no-go with colors.
Subpar.
It
was
going
so
good
called
Tinder
Bundle.
Wood's in for life.
The coal
is too small.
I don't want
to give up.
But after coming this far and just getting the coal
and just not being able to blow it into flames
I can't just give up so one got this
Basswood inner fiber I found on a different tree.
It's a lot more fibrous and like
Easy to work with and the stuff I was using I think stuff I
was using isn't quite dead enough
For that anyway anyways, and I got some oak leaves off of the tree
So I'm gonna combine these two into one tinder bundle
I'm gonna make a new hole cut a new notch
And then I'll show you the last step of me trying to get the coal
and blowing into flames
Moment of truth, this will
be the last attempt, got everything brand
new, new tinder bundle, new notch, new hole
Hopefully it works, and I'm not taking any chances
I don't know if you're supposed to build a fire with the coal after
or the tinder bundle after I can't remember if that's a requirement
but I went and got some
crap enough to get any high flames just
in case I don't want to I don't want to do it wrong
Yes, where did
my coal go? Oh, come on.
We're giving out
at least I got
the coal this time.
Okay,
this has got to work
That's
the work is
the easy part.
This is the
easy part.
Yeah,
it's looking
good to mess
around
too much
There
she goes
into flame.
See it. Oh,
I hope that's
in frame.
Nice
Well, I'm glad I didn't
give up, really glad.
Okay,
so as that's building
I just want to try and make it clear what I did
There was two, there's a bunch of challenges for the hardwoodsman's tab
the second part of it what I attempted
to do what I did in this one was one of
them which was use an axe to build a fire
or sorry an axe to build a bow drill
kit to build a fire I did that all
with my axe, there's another challenge that
you are supposed to take two different kinds
of trees identify them and show
two uses of them so I only do that with one tree
this time I'll do the second
tree next time but the thing I did this time
with the bat it was basswood tree I
I did a bow drill fire with it
and I ate the leaves, that's two things I hope that
makes sense to everyone, it makes sense
to my head, here's your sustained fire, thank god
