To Do: 4th Annual Collards Cook-Off set for Oct. 23 in Columbus
Oct 21, 2026
We have the callers cook off. This is the fourth one.
It's just a fun day to bring the community
together and honor the people that taught us these recipes,
that taught us how to grow food,
how to cook food. Last year was my first time in the competition
and I had a really good time.
I won second place. It really means something to me.
It makes me remember my mother. My mother is
in heaven. She died in 2013 and it's just a good memory of my mom.
My collard greens name is
Rosemary's Mean Green Supremes and it's dedicated to my mother.
So ever since eight or nine I had
to help her wash them. I had to help them clean.
I was there when she was boiled down the meat
and seasoned them up real good.
My dad's favorite food is collard greens so we had them almost once
a week. The greens are growing so good.
They are large and charged and ready to be cooked.
The chefs will pick up the collards from this farm on Tuesday.
They'll start preparing them
and cooking them for that Friday afternoon.
But all the collards that they will be cooking will
be coming from Mercy Med Farm.
There may be a small portion that comes from Jenny Jack Farm
or Little Fox Farm. You should have around 100 bunches
of collard greens for you to purchase
and try the recipes that you love.
This really launches into our collard season
and we'll have collards all the way through May now.
Come out celebrate our community
that's out here and the community
that can't share this with us today but
taught us how to enjoy life.
