Following some breaking news here about Chicago police
on the scene of another possible smash
and grab at a 7-Eleven on Halsted and Milwaukee.
Keeps happening over and over.
The building badly damaged there.
Brian Jackson just got to the scene, gives us a closer look.
What are you seeing out there, Brian?
Good morning to you guys.
I'm here on the corner of Milwaukee and Halstead.
I'm going to show you a white Grand Cherokee that appears
to be the vehicle that potentially was involved in this attempted smash
and grab here at this 7-Eleven.
I did speak to somebody who represents this 7-Eleven, and they told me
that the original call for this came in at about 4.30 this morning.
I actually said that there was a resident
at the apartment building across the street who was the one
who eventually, who originally called police.
You can see they're definitely trying to clean up the scene out here,
but we were told that this white SUV drove into the store
and they were able to leave with the ATM.
We were told that the store was actually closed
at the time of this incident.
So far, still trying to gather more
details about what exactly happened here.
But we do know that this was an apparent smash-and-grab attempt
that started around 4.30 or so this morning at the 7-Eleven here
at a very busy intersection at the corner of, looks like,
Milwaukee and Halsted here in the River West neighborhood.
Again, nobody was in the store at the time of this incident.
It happened at about 4:30.
Whoever was in this white SUV did eventually leave with the ATM.
We're not sure if they were to leave in a different vehicle.
We're still working to gather some of those details.
Going to try to talk to some more people on the scene
and get back to you guys a little bit later.
That is the latest from out here at the corner of Milwaukee
and Halstead this morning.
I'm Brian Jackson for Fox Chicago.
Back to you guys.
Okay, Brian.
Thank you so much for that update from that corner in West Town.
