Hello everyone, and welcome back to our channel! Today, we are excited to share a new course with you. In this course, we will explore a painting technique in the *mo-cai* (ink-and-color wash) style, centered on the theme of a mystical hillside village. Winding paths meander through the mountains, traversing dense forests of pine and *thuja* (arborvitae) trees. The painting goes beyond a mere depiction of a natural landscape; it integrates Eastern philosophical concepts, crafting a spiritual, timeless space.
For this piece, we use traditional Chinese mineral pigments—pigments derived from crushed stone, ground into a fine powder and mixed with an adhesive binder. Thanks to their mineral composition, these colors remain vibrant and enduring for thousands of years. In the coloring process, we begin by applying red and blue as base tones for the mountain foothills and the forests. Next, we dampen the surface with clean water, followed by a layer of blue. While the surface remains moist, we sprinkle on blue and green pigments to create a harmonious interplay of color. Finally, we add accents of sky-blue to deepen the sense of mystery within the painting.
