Swipe and Dutch Pours! I am using the SheleeArt recipe for my paints but mixing up my techniques in this painting. In the first piece, I am doing a small circle and swiping my white paint over the colors with some pieces of paper. The cells just exploded in this one! In the second painting, I did a Dutch Pour and the hair dryer moved the paint around really well, and again, made some really amazing cells. My coasters also turned out nicely and these colors are drying well!
My second book on paint pouring is now out!: "The Art of Paint Pouring: Swipe, Swirl and Spin." By Amanda VanEver
Good morning everyone. So today I'm going to do a swipe
and then I'm also going to do a dutch pour.
My recipes for all of my paint mixtures are the Shelly Art recipe.
So they're a little bit thicker
and I'm hoping for some really nice cells with what I have mixed up.
I'm going to be painting on a variety of different wood circles
so I have 6 inch
8 inch and some 10 inch I get these right off of Amazon I'll have them
linked below so that you can take a look
the company that I buy them from goes
all the way up to 24 inches
so you can get some really nice sized pieces I also
have some 4 inch circles that I use for coasters
so I'm planning on doing one
set of those if I have enough paint left over.
I have my white base paint,
some purple, magenta,
and two shades of turquoise.
One's a lighter one and one's a darker one. And then I also have my
white paint for my cell activator that I'll use on top
and I'm going to use that in all of my
pieces. Hopefully get some really nice cells with this.
So for swiping, one of the things that I
like. It's just something that I had is acid-free paper.
It's a little bit thicker but it's not
as thick as cardstock but I have different sizes
so depending on how I'm swiping I can do different
things with that. I also use those pieces
of paper to save leftover paint.
So I'm starting off with
an eight inch wood circle.
I'm going to try some swipes
on this and I'm going
to add a variety of
each of my colors I think.
I'll do the lighter one first
and then I'll put
the darkest turquoise on
top. I'll put
my white on here.
I'm going to take
some of my pieces
of paper and just
swipe out and
then I'll probably tilt
a little bit.
So I am getting some cells.
I may actually dip my swiping
tool in the white
and try it
this way see if I
can pull out more.
That's a little
better. So the
excess paint I'll show pictures the excess paint
that's on my paper I'm swiping on my freezer paper
and this also creates a ton of cells I save this for skins
and I'll take pictures of that after
because those with the color that's coming off
of this and transferring onto my freezer paper
I have some
really nice
pieces
that I'll
be able to save
and use so I'm
going to swipe
a little bit
the middle to see if i can get some cells to pop up in the middle
and then i'm going to maybe let
let it sit just for a minute, it's making
a lot of cells, I will tilt
a little bit, I'm gonna do one
more swipe in this section, see
if I can get a few cells to pop up
on that side, there we go, now that
popped up
really well
okay, so I
want to show
this before
I'm tilting
I have some
really
amazing
sections on here and I'll take a few pictures.
Those cells are just beautiful.
So swiping this way worked really nicely.
Dipping my paper into the cell
activator and then swiping it seemed
to work better than pouring the cell
activator on the colors.
So I will put my camera back up and tilt. Okay so I'm
gonna tilt this a little bit.
Hopefully keep a lot of these nice cells. Let's see
how this goes. I think I have plenty of paint
on here that seems like it's going to tilt really
nicely. Pull some
of those cells out more.
It doesn't even need
a lot of tilting,
but I'm going
to kind of center the design.
I'll leave it like this.
That looks very nice.
Okay, so I'm going to
try another one. I'm going to blow it out with a hair dryer
and kind of do a dutch pour with it,
and we'll see how that turns out.
Okay, so for this one, I'm going to go slightly bigger,
and I'm going to use a 10 inch circle
and I have my newer hair dryer
that I got, this one has a
slightly different end on it, it directs the paint a lot more than
or directs the airflow a lot more
than my other one does, so I'm going
to be holding it higher above my canvas because it's even on
low, it's a pretty strong, it's really strong
and I don't want it to completely blow all the paint
off so we're gonna put a nice base coat on there
and I think I'll have enough for some coasters
if not I can go get a tad more paint
and with this one I'm just gonna stick with
I'm gonna leave out the magenta I'm just gonna stick
with the turquoise and the purple
what do I want on top just
a little bit of this light
turquoise and more
of this dark and get my
cell activator. It's sinking a little bit
but hopefully there will be enough that I can blow
it across
the colors and get
some cells this way.
Oh that actually
worked pretty well.
I kept it
higher and I'm going to add a little bit more white around the side
so that I can tilt but I
got some really nice cells in this too.
Let me get you up close and show you. So this is before
tilting that is a really
beautiful pattern
with the hairdryer
that worked out really well okay
to help the paint move a little bit more i'm going
to add just a little bit of white on the edges
and hopefully it'll tilt nicely i do want to tilt just
a little bit it actually i don't think we'll
need
that
much i
don't
want
a lot
of the
white
left
on this i
really
like
how the
colors
i was
able to pull all of the colors out here i'm going to try
and tilt just a little bit more this way to
move some of that white
but if i can't i will just leave that on there i don't want to
lose some of these
really nice cells
that i have come
on and there we go okay
wow all right so i'm
going to set this aside and i'm going
to do some coasters really quick i hope you guys liked these
this one i'm definitely going to be doing more
of this paint recipe with different colors using
the hair dryer because that just turned out really well.
I have really nice cells all throughout the
entire piece. The colors blended beautifully
and I think I think this is going to be a way that I
can do this on some larger pieces.
So hopefully, fingers crossed, this dries well. I will show
pictures of it about a day after it's been drying
and we'll see how it goes. But thank you guys for
watching. I will show some coasters next
and I'm just going to throw some music on in the background
for you and I hope you liked
these the few different techniques with the Shelly
art recipe of paint
