All right, welcome in on a Monday to Free For All Plus.
Mike Doocy with Sam Gannon.
How was the weekend? Very nice.
It was eventful. I took an extra day off,
and we're going to bring you a fun little story
at the end of the show that has to do with the
concert that I went to, which was exceptional.
The concert, just tell people who the concert
was. Karol G came to AT&T Stadium. Huge act, huge act.
Huge act. I had never been to a concert in Jerry World before.
Many a sporting event,
never a concert. And it just has a whole different vibe
when you're inside. And it makes me realize
too, wow, you can really get lost in that place easily
because you can't necessarily get to every
section going up one elevator.
But we had a time and gonna bring you a story about one fan who had
a time in particular. And you posted some video
of that fan that has really taken off and gone
viral, as the kids say. So I had a fun weekend as well.
Thanks for asking. Helped emcee an event
Saturday in Oak Point, where we live.
Of course, I know that Mike and I do,
we talk a lot on the weekend, so I knew he did this.
Right, no, that's okay. But just to,
I want to say hello to everybody that I had a chance to meet
in Oak Point. Many neighbors who I'd not yet met.
We've been there a couple of years now,
but it's a place where you don't meet everybody all the time.
But we had a great
A great day there at the Polo Grounds
at Oak Point Community Celebration,
celebrating their 50th birthday of that little community.
So that was a lot of fun.
Great weather, too.
Finally, finally, we get actual fall weather.
I don't want to hear about low 80s being fall.
I don't want to hear about mid-70s being fall weather.
No, true fall weather is 60 degrees, preferably 50s.
So I can't wait till we get into that.
All right.
Sam on the weather here.
I'm free for all plots.
Can I interrupt for a second?
Please do.
What camera are you looking at, Sam?
Three.
Now you are.
Oh, I'm just looking straight at the monitor.
Oh, I got you.
She likes looking at herself, probably.
Fixing the hair.
Yeah, fixing the hair.
I do pay more attention to my posture, but continue.
You went with the straight hair here lately, huh?
Yep, just kind of switching it up.
How do you decide when you're going to go one way
and when you're going to go the other?
It's a feeling.
I'm a girl.
It's a girl thing.
All right.
I've lost interest.
Here we go with the Cowboys.
I actually said to Mike yesterday, I was like,
Mike, you notice I wear my hair straight.
He looked really enthused.
And I kind of gave this look.
Typical guy.
Typical guy response.
But anyway, last night's game was fun.
Wow.
That was crazy.
It was fun from a broadcast standpoint because we thought it would
be a good idea to expand free-for-all from 10 to 11
because then we could do post-game coverage because Jeff is at Lambeau.
He'll join us later with some thoughts on being at Lambeau
and some of your calls as well.
But then the game just dragged on and on and on,
and we can't show highlights until the game's over.
And we also didn't get to watch
the entire fourth quarter, so that's always fun.
So I still haven't heard what happened.
They lose at Lambeau yet again.
I think they've won once in their last 13 games
at Lambeau Field in Green Bay.
23-13, the final.
It was pretty much over by halftime.
The Cowboy offense could generate nothing for Brian Schottenheimer.
And the theme, I think, coming out of this one
is the fact we knew the defense was bad.
You could argue that it slightly improved in a couple of areas,
thanks in part to that guy, Joey Porter Jr., at a nice game.
Nice game, but man, the offense just sputtered continually,
shut out in the first half.
You could argue had only one meaningful touchdown in the game.
The second one was in garbage time late.
Dak just unable to get it down the field.
He was under constant pressure.
We'll discuss all of this here coming up in a moment.
First, the latest comments from the coach.
Now, team president Stephen Jones gave Brian Schottenheimer
a vote of confidence earlier today.
That was on his radio show on The Fan, on Stephen's show.
And late this afternoon,
Brian Schottenheimer with a response at the Star.
I think at the end of the day, I'm focused on the process
of turning this around for myself, the players.
You know, certainly not good enough.
We're disappointed with where we're at.
We know we need to play better.
We know we can play better.
And, you know, I think at the end of the day,
we've got the right guys to do that.
we have great trust in our offense i'm
not concerned about our offense again the last
two weeks the last two weeks we own
that that is what it is has not been good enough but we
also have a history of being really explosive really good
and we've done that not only last
year but uh in uh four of our games
this year i'm always honest with these guys i raise my voice a
lot with these guys um you know uh you guys don't hear it
because you're not out there you're not
in meetings but uh again how you get the message across
to me is more about being upfront and
honest and direct and uh that's the way we talk whether we win
or we lose and um you know i think
it's your responsibility as a head coach to paint
the picture of why you either won or you lost and
that's what we'll do coach brian schottenheimer
as as we've said uh we knew the defense was bad
um they were far from perfect last night
but you know in the final analysis green bay ended up with
23 points and this supposedly high-powered cowboys offense one line
that i thought was
pretty funny clarence hill wrote they've gone from gaudy to potty
29 points in the last two games combined that just won't get it done
and to be fair it's never
reached gaudy like levels yet you know
and the thing is this two and four start for the cowboys
it's tied for dallas's worst start to a season
in a decade that's a long time but you know back to
back weeks, the Cowboys have failed to score at least 20 points.
That's the first time that this
has happened for Dak Prescott since the Jason Garrett era in 2019.
So these last two weeks
in particular have been uncharacteristic,
but it doesn't matter that Coach Schottenheimer says he
isn't worried. The fact of the matter
is the results on the field have shown otherwise,
and it's all about wins and losses at the end of the day.
And it's funny, we're going to talk more
about Schottenheimer here in a moment,
just about the way he, I guess, conducts himself after a game,
especially a frustrating loss.
And the way he does that may frustrate the fan base even more.
But just a couple of final things on the offense.
They only ran it 15 times for 48 yards.
Dak was forced to throw 54 times.
And teams just don't win when the quarterback has to throw 50 or more.
That's happened only once this year in nine instances
where NFL quarterbacks have thrown 50 or more times.
Stafford got it done and Dak's three
and seven in his career when throwing 50 times or more so
they've just um he never looked comfortable back there he
was under a lot of pressure he took some
real hits yeah and the last two games he's had
a passer rating combined passer rating for 66.9
and by the way the Packers defense they
were missing three starters including
Micah Parsons as well
so they were unable to capitalize off of that George Pickens really
wasn't involved. And Coach Schottenheimer talked about that today,
how they need to find different
ways. Because when you have an elite guy like that,
and you're not utilizing him the right way,
you've got two top 10 wide receivers.
As for the defense, Mike Pettine was added the
veteran defensive coordinator as an advisor of sorts,
and a lot of it was made of that.
Pettine was upstairs.
Christian Parker continued to coach from the field.
They did sack Jordan Love three times, but Love,
as opposed to Dak, who looked constantly uncomfortable,
Love never really seemed to, I think in large part
because that Cowboys secondary just doesn't intimidate anybody.
With that said,
Joey Porter Jr. did kind of provide a ray of hope there with his play.
I mean, I think he's going to be a good player for them,
but Caleb Downs looks like he's not being used in the right way.
this defensive back speed the former UFL guy
was just burned continually on the night so
while the defense showed glimpses of being more aggressive
and more effective they they still
didn't they couldn't get off the field on third down
that was the big problem they were 11 of 18
and i think if you're taking any positive at all
in terms of this defense which the bar has been
so low, and that remains to be a constant problem.
It is Joey Porter Jr., and Jerry and company might
want to think about signing this guy eventually,
because he played 36 snaps last night in his
second game with Dallas.
Overall, though, I thought it was interesting, Brian Broaddus,
former Cowboys scout who works at the fan,
he was saying he's not sure how he would use Caleb
Downs, which I think is very telling.
So there are still so many problems and things to figure out.
They got their first interception of the season last night as well,
but it remains to be seen what kind of a jump this unit can make.
Cowboys were 6-5-1 after a Thanksgiving win over the Chiefs last year.
Since then, they've lost 8 of 11 games.
Colin Cowherd on FS1 today, I thought,
had an interesting commentary on the Cowboys and
Schottenheimer in particular,
and the fact that it's an indictment of him that the offense seems
to be getting worse the longer Schottenheimer
is coordinating it. I'm not quite sure it's
fair to make that judgment after a bad back-to-back two-game stretch,
but it's alarming
that the guy who's in charge ultimately of making
this offense tick just hasn't been able to get it
done recently. Yeah, and I think it's fair to question whether
or not he's being creative
enough with the talent that he has
on the offensive side of the ball. Also, they can't
run the ball for anything.
They had 48 rushing yards last night. Again, these are constant
problems that we've seen primarily
from the start of the season. Penalties as well.
10 penalties for 108 yards, I think it was, or 11.
Might have 11. Each team had 11, I think, yeah.
So I think that the hot seat continues to get hotter and hotter.
And I've always appreciated
the way Schottenheimer conducts himself
because it's not easy to do when your team's not winning.
But I think for this fan base,
they're getting tired of hearing about the effort was there.
I'm not sure the effort is there at all times.
And the reason why I say that is why I know I'm
not a player not on the field.
But there was a moment in the game.
We have a couple shots, I think,
of guys that were on the bench kind of smiling at times.
Like Dak Prescott.
I think Tyler Smith was another one.
I'm not saying these guys are human.
Things are going to happen.
But if you're not ticked off at this point,
at the way this team is playing.
I mean, body language, I think, says a lot.
There's nothing to smile about, you know?
Yeah, they don't look terribly tortured.
Schottenheimer was asked today just about
his temperament with the players.
Is it time to, you know,
tip over a dinner table or whatever in the lunchroom?
And, you know, he said he's pissed off.
And he said, yeah, he raises his voice with these guys.
We just don't hear it because it tends
to be behind closed doors during meetings or whatever.
Real quick, you want to show a couple
of these tweets from the former players
So I think former Cowboy Ben DiNucci, he said this,
I believe he works for CBS Sports now.
He said, you can't turn on the Cowboys tape from last night
and tell me guys on that offense are
giving 100%. Lazy, no attention to details,
no creativity with play calls. Cowboys fans,
I understand your frustration.
And Braylon Edwards saying this, watching the Dallas Cowboys
struggle two weeks in a row reminded me of why we
as a Jets offense were terrible in back-to-back
AFC Championship Games in 2009-2010,
mid-OC by the name of Brian Schottenheimer.
Everybody's piling on.
Piling on.
Now that they're struggling, and they deserve the criticism.
There's no doubt about it.
No, they do, and I think it's going to be tough to turn things around.
I understand the schedule that they have coming up,
but they haven't shown any signs that
they can be consistent, really, in any phase.
I'm going to reserve judgment
on that because I might pick them to win Monday night.
Monday night, yes, Philly's different.
A week from tonight, and maybe that makes things look different.
Eagles found out today that Jalen Hurts likely out for the season
with the blood clots that are not necessarily life-threatening,
but certainly alarming as they've gone to his lungs now.
We go to a quick break asking you who's to blame.
That's what it's all about, assigning blame.
go to foxsports.com slash free for all or scan the QR code.
Speaking of assigning blame,
you are sounding off
and Jeff is in with that next.
All right, Jeff joins us. He'll have
Cowboys Unfiltered at the bottom of the hour
on the Fox local app with your calls.
First, your first trip to Lambeau, right?
And you had fantastic weather in Green Bay.
It's quite the venue, isn't it?
Yeah, and it was very nice to experience it with
60 degree temps. We love that. I know you're a cold weather
Yeah, same with you, right? But the jacket was ready.
I didn't have to use it. That was really
nice. But yeah, Lambeau, I know I said this yesterday,
I think with you guys at the end of
our show. The green even kind of reminds me of Fenway Park.
It's just that historic, iconic vibe.
And for me, it might be top five bucket list venues.
I mean, Rose Bowl is always at the top
for me um but like you just can't build somewhere
like Lambeau today right like Jerry Jones Jerry
World it's it's like cool it's great
but like you can never recreate something like a Lambeau or a
Fenway there's the uniqueness of the stadium itself
and they've renovated it a lot it used
to be much more rustic than it is now if you can believe
that but just the setting you know in a
city of a hundred thousand people to have
an NFL team i grew up in northern iowa as a Packers fan
and most of my friends were Vikings fans
because the Vikings were good growing up when i was a kid
and the Packers weren't.
But I'll never forget my first game at Lambeau. My first TV job was
in Wisconsin, La Crosse, Wisconsin.
And Joe Montana and the Niners were playing the Packers.
Wow. And that's back when I was shooting my own video.
So I was on the sideline at Lambeau,
down on my knees, shooting an NFL game at the stadium.
That's awesome. I can't picture that.
That's awesome. I was a hell of a photographer,
by the way. I had a great eye.
And I edited the video and everything. What's that?
I was a lot of Cowboys fans there.
Did you know that?
It was a little bit hard to tell because there
was a lot of blue, but now the Packers
have that blue alternate jersey.
So that was kind of annoying.
There was a blue number one Micah Parsons jerseys.
Those were weird to see.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But it is funny real quick.
There was major construction on the one main highway road to get up.
We were in Appleton going up to Green Bay.
So the police escort with the team buses that we
were on had to go through these back roads.
Wow.
like farmland and I'm just thinking like
if these people come outside, and there's the
cowboy escort, it's pretty unique.
It's as opposed to when you're in Philly
or one of the other road cities on a team bus
and they're flipping you off and Green Bay it tends to be,
hi, good luck, go get them.
Midwestern nice, isn't that what they say?
Yeah.
Clearly.
So Jeff, did you get any calls?
The calls were not so nice.
We got over 200 voicemails from yesterday to today
and picking apart all different kinds
of things.
A lot of the things you guys were getting
into in the first block, but when you lose
like this, you don't know what might come up as a shot to be taken.
It might even be like your leg full of tattoos like Dak Prescott.
Take a listen.
I keep saying it over and over and over.
Any measly quarterback
who has to be sedated to get a leg tattoo is a joke.
Oh lack does not should have been gone 10 years ago.
He should have been gone his second year.
He sucks.
He's your problem.
He needs to go.
He's embarrassing.
That's for sure.
Yeah.
Getting a little nitpicky there.
Well, and so he got those tattoos in 2023,
which probably was his best season ever for
a second in the MVP.
I'm not sure that's a great case to make,
but a lot coming up on the show, including
one good day apology that came today
from someone sitting at this table.
So, you know.
Good day apology?
Oh, yeah, when I finally got my live shot
on the air from home this morning.
Audio difficulty early.
That didn't bother you that much.
Daddy was grumpy.
Well, it should be a good show.
No, it should be.
This was interesting.
I said, like I said, a lot of calls,
actually like some out of state calls.
We had calls from California, from south of Texas.
So really interesting.
And our last word for you, you guys heard it in the office.
Yeah.
It was a little sensual maybe,
I don't know how you might want to describe that.
Trying to find the silver lining maybe in all of this.
It was some you are so cute type of energy.
Is this going to resemble the Rangers season where
the team is really bad and they'll continue
to be in the playoff race?
Yes.
So that's what the team will try to sell to us?
Just torture right down to the last couple games.
That's exactly how I feel about this team right now.
I feel like even though these losses have been awful,
the games themselves have been
very entertaining, even from our standpoint of having to talk about it.
So there's that.
Painfully so.
All right.
Cowboys Unfiltered with Jeff coming up at 7:30 on the Fox local app.
and Sam's special friend from that big concert up next.
All right, as we mentioned earlier,
Sam attended one of the biggest shows of the year
at Jerry World over the weekend.
Take it away.
I'm a huge Latin music fan.
Carol G was in the house Thursday night.
Amazing concert, but I'll have you know, Mike,
she wasn't the biggest star of the show that night.
It was one fan.
She had this moment in her concert
where she invited fans up on the stage to dance,
and this one man, 70-year-old Valente Chavez
of Tyler, Texas, although he's from Durango, Mexico, got called up.
And I captured this moment for social media that went a little viral.
So I'm going to have you guys take a look.
So no one had more fun than Valente at the concert.
his son actually saw the video on Instagram.
And that's how I got in touch with Valente and I
started off our conversation by asking,
was that your plan all along to get up on that stage?
Not at all, not at all.
So she was coming around walking, looking for people.
Of course, everybody's jumping up
and down going, pick me, pick me, pick me.
And anyway, I was just standing there.
I must have been standing there with my arms folded
or something. I wasn't jumping, I wasn't making any noise,
and she pointed in my direction.
And I go, Lord, they said, she's pointing at you,
she's pointing at you. And I go, me?
She goes, yes, you. And I go, no, I don't think so.
Anyway, about that time, the security
guys came over and got me,
led me to the gate to be able to go off to the stage. I said,
well, here I go.
So she shows every fan on the Jumbotron.
So I'm in the 200 section, so I have a perfect view.
When they go to you,
my face just absolutely lit up as did everyone around me.
Tell me what the exchange was between you and Carol G.
Well, she looked at me and about that time she folded her arms. Well,
that's when I folded my arms as well. You were standing on business.
Yeah, so we were doing a stare down. Anyway, she'd shake her hand,
head a couple of times and I'd shake my head a couple of times.
I would never take my eyes
off of her.
Can you tell me about the dance moves
that you decided to put on for 90,000 at that
stadium?
I kind of ad libbed, I just kind of follow
her what she was doing when we were doing
the stare down. But then when the dancing,
I didn't expect her to call me out first.
But the crowd was going crazy and I was really in shock
and she came out, I just started
moving.
You're a good dancer.
And then when she started going down, and I go, Lord.
So I started going down and I said,
I hope she comes out of this pretty quick cuz I don't
know how much longer I can hold it.
Now that you've seen it go viral
on so many social media platforms, I know it's not what
you had in mind, but what do you want people to take away from that?
Enjoy life, enjoy life to the fullest.
And I try to do that anyway, not just that night,
but I try to do that to the fullest,
live your life and have fun.
Good advice from Valente,
enjoy life.
It was just so cool to see how
many people were at the concert
that night and that was their
favorite part of the concert.
So thanks to Valente for
taking the time with me and
I'll never forget that it was
a lot of fun.
That's excellent.
All right, we appreciate that and
we thank you for watching.
Jeff, stay with us on Fox Local.
Jeff's next with Cowboys Unfiltered.
We'll see you again at 1030.
