AI GeneratedThe Inkster City Council has voted against the construction of a proposed $75 million data center. Following a heated public meeting where residents expressed strong opposition due to environmental and community concerns, the project was rejected, with council members declining to even make a motion for its approval.
Data center is causing quite a stir in Inkster.
City council officials are voting on it tonight,
and residents are not happy about it.
Fox News' Lauren Edwards joins us live
with the very latest on the public comment part
that we were watching streaming in here.
It was getting pretty heated, Lauren.
Oh, Ruth, I can tell you it absolutely was getting heated,
but I can also tell you that within the last 15 minutes,
it was actually voted that that data center will
not be happening here in the city of Inkster.
So many residents were up in arms,
and so many residents got their voices heard.
Let's get into the details and what you need to know
because the site of that would-be data center was supposed
to be on Southern Street near Inkster Road and Michigan Avenue.
Clever technology was hoping to transform
a vacant 40,000-square-foot building into a $75 million data center.
But Inkster City Council officials were looking to possibly talk
about it, approve it, or vote on a special land use request tonight.
Now, that was supposed to happen, but, you know, lots
of residents packing City Hall and just simply saying absolutely not.
Fox News heard from a number of residents before the meeting
that they did not want that data center because of concerns of power
and water usage and other environmental concerns.
And that sentiment was expressed throughout the meeting tonight.
Take a listen.
So I'm just asking us to be wise, to be smart,
to be diligent and great stewards of what we do.
Because if we don't, what we gonna watch
is Dearborn Heights move in here and Westland move in there.
And when we look up, there will be no more Inkster.
What we'll have is history of signs that say Inkster was here.
Rather than taking our members and displacing us,
we've been displaced so many times.
I'm telling y'all, my vote is no.
I don't care how much money they bring,
how well they think this thing is going to look.
we've seen it before again that data center will
not be happening in Inkster but coming up on the
11 o'clock show in on the Edge just more about what
the people had to say out here reporting
live here in Inkster Lauren Edwards Fox 2 News yeah
Lauren any indication that some of the council
members uh that were leading this meeting uh had any opposition to what
so many of these folks had
to say no one on city council even made a motion about it at all
so that's what pretty much put
this whole idea. It's dead in the water.
So it seems like everyone was pretty much on board that
this data center will not be happening.
People's voices matter and they make a difference as you
saw here tonight in Inkster.
Our Lauren Edwards for us live tonight. Thanks, Lauren.
