Rotary Club Abuja grandfather Advances Menternal Health And Basic Education Projects In Kabusa Community
Rotary Club of Abuja Grandfather completes second phase of education
and healthcare projects in
Kabuza. The Rotary Club of Abuja Grandfather has taken its maternal
and child health and
basic education literacy projects
to Kabuza Community Secondary School, where two science
laboratories were renovated and equipped with modern facilities.
The initiative also saw more
than 43 students receive scholarships as part
of activities commemorating Rotary's 43 years in
Nigeria. Speaking at the event,
the president of the Rotary Club of Abuja Grandfather, Rotarian
Terva Uza, emphasized the importance of supporting rural communities,
describing such interventions
as a core part of Rotary's mission to improve lives
and promote sustainable community development.
It's with so much joy that we are handing over this project today,
powered by the Rotary Club of Abuja,
and not just the Rotary Club of Abuja,
but to Rotarians
and to even non-Rotarians
people contributed
to have this project come to light
people contributed to the scholarship
that we are giving today
that are not in the Rotary Club of Abuja
so it is not just about
Rotary Club of Abuja
but our friends and our partners
a couple of months ago
when we came to this school
which of course
we've been doing a lot here
Roche and Hadja has
I always call her P.P. Hadja
Khadija
Roche and Dr. Khadija
has really
pushed us to do projects here
and when we came here to
do a needs analysis
of the projects that we wanted
to do for this Rotary year
we realized that there are a lot of things
they needed. We went around with the
principal and we had a series of
discussions, a series of
meetings for months trying
to see how we can narrow down things based on the available funds
we have there's a need for an ICT center there's
a need as the there's a need for
the class in fact they needed
the building showed us why they needed the structure there
and they needed decks and when we came to the lab
as well we saw a need in fact we came here
with officials of
Universal Basic Education
Commission, which
the ESR, so the executive
secretary herself, directed
those people to
come with me here, to come and
look at the needs of what they wanted.
And they took that report to
the secretary, the executive
secretary. But of course, we know
there are a lot of processes
for government to do what they want to do.
So we don't know when
they are going to come back to
us. But of course, I've been having
those discussions with them.
But as a club, and as
a Rotarians, we went ahead to see
what we can do
immediately while we're also waiting for
intervention of the government.
And we could renovate
a class, or we could drop decks
in one class, and it would benefit just a few
people. But when we saw the lab,
we discovered that this lab
is going to serve the entire
school. Both the science
people, the agri, you know,
everybody and all. And we saw the
NIC, it was in a very dilapidated
state. For those of you
who have been here before, you
see what the new
look is compared to what we
met. Yeah, I would talk to
do something that's going to be beneficial to
everybody.
Just like the area of focus for
Rotary, which is basic education and literacy.
I was having the 42
years of Rotary Club
and they also decided to
We give students, based on performance,
it's not just a normal scholarship of a team.
It's based on the performance of a student.
We selected 43 students from this school.
I think it has helped the parents and also the school.
Here is a rural area where parents are struggling to pay school fees.
So with this, I think the parents will also be happy, including myself.
I'm a person who is always happy to see
when they put smiles on people's faces.
So the joy you can see from the students and also the parents present,
that shows that Rotary Club has impacted the lives of people
who have lost hope in pain, even in these times of crisis.
As part of the project,
the club also visited Shireti Primary Health Centre,
where medical equipment was donated to strengthen healthcare delivery.
The donated equipment was formally commissioned by the community chief.
May God support these people with mercy.
Amen.
I didn't know how I would show
my appreciation with this gift,
for this NGO or whatever you want to call it.
God Great Law.
I want to thank you people and I want to thank God.
I want to thank my own people community.
With this support,
I will be nearing even crying.
Because other people say,
if you don't have mother on call,
and God be your mother,
you receive gift where you're not expecting.
So what you people do for this community
is only God can present a more gift for you people.
Amen.
My name is Ruth Victor, the officer in charge of Charity PSC.
These are the items donated by Rotary Club of Abuja,
Grandfather Club.
We indeed appreciate them.
This is not the first time they are coming.
All the benches we have in the facility that our clients are using
were donated by the Grandfather Club.
And with us here,
we have the Centrifuge.
It's a device used in the laboratory.
It's mainly used to separate blood.
When you want to run a test, you separate,
you have the serum, you have the cells and others.
This is what it's used for.
This is a BP machine that is used to check
the blood pressure of the clients.
This is a sphygmomanometer.
As you are using this,
you use this to get the correct reading of the blood pressure.
This is hematocrit.
It's a machine used to check PCV, blood level of patients.
In fact, if there's anything
that is giving me joy today, it's this machine.
Because for long, you have mothers coming for antenatal.
You cannot ascertain their blood level.
If they come for delivery,
you don't know what you are going into labor room with.
But with this, we have assurance that if it is what we cannot handle,
we take decision immediately to refer to a bigger center.
Yes.
Then here we have mosquito nets for our antenatal mothers.
Yes.
This is just a sample.
We have some of them in the sack.
Then this is baby's cot.
When they came, they discovered that in our delivery room,
there's no cot for baby.
Once we deliver baby, baby must be on the same bed with the mother.
So this one is donated by Rotary Club.
As soon as we have somebody in labor now,
maybe that baby will be the first beneficiary of this.
Yes, and making themselves comfortable.
We have plastic chairs and tables.
Tables are some of the things that we don't have enough.
And this will go a long way in helping us and making our work
more easier and more comfortable.
inside there are so many other things
that are not displayed here
we are going to bring you more
because I saw you have 500 pieces of
okay thank you very much
this is hepatitis
malaria
okay
so these are all
now back approved
yes
the grandfather
yes
your name is registered on my head
highlights of the event included musical
performances and displays of nigeria's rich
cultural heritage celebrating the contributions
of rotary club members and bringing together
parents and other community stakeholders
the projects underscore rotary's commitment to
improving access to quality education
and health care particularly in underserved communities point
