A 24-team college playoff is coming. Is it a good idea?
Oct 16, 2026
But now we're going to be into a 2014 playoff,
which and I think it's going to completely flip the calendar.
And they were going to do this.
If you look at if you look at sports, major sports,
all they do is add playoffs because that's where money is.
And they're going to have playoff teams.
What do you think about adding 12 more teams to the bracket
and making basically December a college football playoff?
Yeah, I struggle with understanding the rationale other than,
hey, we can make more money and sell more ads.
But you're cutting conference championships,
and so it's not like you're getting much more in the end anyway.
I think you are just kind of searching
for any way to continue to drive ratings forward.
The big thing that I think has really hurt
this sport is obviously the TV deals.
But, you know, it's kind of a glance behind the scenes.
every 10 years these tv deals they get renegotiated
and they get talked about and when you bring the
same product to the table every 10 years you can't really ask
for much more money and so they have to
sell something and and the something
is an expanded playoff it's more teams it's more intrigue if you
want to call it that i you know it is what it is but like
who is going to give a crap mac about
Virginia, Oklahoma State, the first weekend of December
in a first-round playoff game in Stillwater.
Nobody, nobody's going to care about that.
I would much rather watch that game in the Pop-Tarts Bowl
and maybe see Oklahoma State's quarterback of the future in that game.
I honestly would.
I don't care to see that in a playoff setting
just because neither of these teams, we look on the surface level,
have a chance of winning it.
We look at the 12-team playoff from a year ago.
We could really only look at five teams that had a legitimate shot
at winning that national championship.
And five was unexpected.
Miami ended up getting into the mix
a lot more than I expected in the end.
