Reacting to 24-Team College Football Playoff, What it Means for Alabama: Just a Minute

As of this recording Thursday afternoon,
the 2014 college football playoff has not
officially been announced, but according to all
the top sources in college football journalism,
it is all but a done deal for the college
football playoff to expand to 24 teams
starting next season, which is crazy
because we've just had three years of the 12-team playoff.
So what does this mean for Alabama?
You look, Alabama has made the playoff more than any other
team total over the years since its inception in 2014,
starting with the 14 field and then being
the 12-team playoff the last two years, so I think expanding it to
24 obviously just gives Alabama even
more chances to make it. I think it
sets an even, I don't know if you want to say lower
or higher depending on how you look
at it, benchmark of if Alabama doesn't make it,
it's going to be even more
trouble for the coaching staff. And I think kind of
the reaction to this all across college football
is just that this continues to
devalue the regular season in some ways,
because in some ways it's kind of
like what already happened this past Saturday in Tuscaloosa.
Alabama lost to Georgia,
and it's really not that big of a deal for Alabama's playoff chances.
Pre-watching or watching the Saban documentary that just came out
and looking at the intensity of that 2011 Alabama-LSU game,
and Alabama did eventually get the rematch,
but they needed a lot of other things to happen around the country
for that to happen.
That's just not the case for Alabama this year.
They lost to Georgia.
They still have everything they want ahead of them,
and this is just a 12-team field.
So when you get to that 24-team field,
losses will matter even less,
But in a way, it'll make the regular season more interesting
because more teams will be alive going deeper into the season.
Will it make a better playoff?
I don't know about that.
I would argue that there's very, very rarely going to be 24 teams
that have a legitimate shot at winning a national title.
Football is a very different sport than basketball
and what we see in March Madness every year.
I just don't think you're going to see that type of upsets.
I think really the biggest thing for Alabama fans will be that this all
but eliminates the conference championship games.
Alabama has won more SEC championships than any
other school has had more appearances and so
Alabama fans are pretty used to going over
to Atlanta the first weekend in December and with
this new format that's just not going to be a thing mainly
because the way the calendar works
and because teams don't want that extra game
if there is going to be the expanded playoff field
so for Crimson Tide fans those trips to Atlanta
for the SEC championship will end I'm sure there
will be plenty of playoff games in Atlanta
but that's kind of the biggest impact for Alabama
besides the fact that it just gives them even
more opportunities to get into the field
makes losing less of a big deal in the regular season
but keeps more teams hopes alive farther
into the year and just makes it more likely
that Alabama is going to make the playoff every year
but what do you think let us know in the comments
on social media are you for or against the 24 team
college football playoff that wraps up today's
a little bit lengthy just a minute thank you so much for
