AI GeneratedThis discussion centers on Tony Romo's departure from the CBS broadcasting booth. While former partner Jim Nance believes Romo's talent and personality will eventually lead him back to a media role, other commentators argue that his legal troubles involving drunk driving have permanently damaged his career prospects in a saturated market.
All right. Moving on to Tony Romo.
Of course, Tony Romo is out, no longer in that CBS booth
alongside his partner, Jim Nance. But will he be back?
That is the question that Jimmy Traynor,
a media reporter,
posed on his Train of Thoughts podcast to none other than Jim Nance.
Did you get any say in CBS's decision to part ways with Tony?
Did they come to you? Did they
seek your advice how did that at the end how did
the end play out i had no role in this i think you
know that and um i think that's the way that it had
to be it was going to be cbs sports decision
you think he'll work again calling games i think
unquestionably he will work again i don't know
if it's calling games or being in the studio he's he's got he's got
a lot of talent he's got a lot
of people who like him and he is a star yeah
and he's got a personality that is you know it's it's
um it's it's just it's different that's that's
a good thing it's uh he's a bigger than life
personality i think there'll be plenty
of opportunity for that all right so there it is
he thinks that jim thinks that tony will
be back he's obviously he's a great football guy
he didn't say and i thought that was interesting he didn't say
that it would be in the booth though
as you heard right it could be as a studio analyst
oh i mean i can totally see that happening i mean
like i think i've been pretty vocal about the fact
that i think tony romo is a very excellent
announcer i mean i think right now it kind
of seems like a lot of the jobs are kind of taken
you know netflix kind of has their guys amazon has
their guys those are kind of the only two
other studios that i could kind of see maybe taking
um a talent like romo just because everyone else
has their you know they're pretty established
with pretty established players yeah you know
all these guys i think are pretty established
right right with their eyes so i think we're
kind of settled down there yeah i don't know like what
the media free agency is like with that but
maybe at some point he can find his way back into that uh that booth
but i think an in-studio
analyst would be a great gig i mean you know
seeing him at halftime breaking down a game i
think that's just as respectable as being there
in the booth obviously he's a very talented play
by play caller but maybe people might find him you know less annoying
or less predictable or whatever
during a halftime or something yeah no i mean
this whole interview is like really great jim
nance was talking about going to like tony romo's wedding back
in the day just how close they are
And that they worked together for nine years and three Super Bowls.
And they've been through so much.
And, like, Jim was clearly, like, hurt a little bit, you know,
that he's not with this guy.
But, yeah, I just feel like, you know, we've got to let some time pass,
let people forget a little bit.
That's, like, how I feel like all this works.
And Tony will be back.
Well, Jim, I hate to tell you,
but let me tell you this old school phrase.
You play stupid games, you win stupid prizes.
My boy Tony decided to go and get lit.
Like a little drunky.
Like he was blitzed out of his mind.
And when we got that blood alcohol level
report back after Mr. I didn't drink at all.
Liar.
You drank a lot.
And you didn't go about it in the correct manner.
That will never.
Oh, yeah.
That will never.
And I'm not laughing at driving drunk.
It's horrible.
Oh, no, you're not.
No, just the stretching part.
No, he went above and beyond to make it seem like he was so sober.
You didn't play your cards right.
You should take an accountability.
And, again, you play stupid games.
You win stupid prizes.
You decide to drive drunk.
Now you don't have a job and like Luca said there's no there
is no spots. There's no free agency. There is no free agency
There's nowhere for you to go
We love our commentators that we hear week after week after
week you Luca you said like Tony is a great commentator
That's back. Yeah, but so are the other commentators that we already
have and that we've grown to love over every Sunday every Monday
Every Thursday night. So at the end of the day,
I'm sorry. No, I'm not sorry Tony
jokes on you
