In the United States,
Somali-born Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar is under investigation
over potential crimes related to her family's immigration paperwork.
Federal authorities have seized
the Democratic lawmakers' phone and have issued more than
a dozen grand jury subpoenas, including to some of her relatives.
The ongoing investigation has already led
to federal agents searching Omar's Washington,
D.C. home on Monday.
The search took place just weeks before the November midterms,
in which Omar is seeking re-election.
Democrats have accused the Trump administration
of targeting Omar for political purposes.
The scope of the investigation into the lawmaker is unclear.
On Tuesday, Washington, D.C., U.S. Attorney Janine Pirro said there
were several investigations going on related to Omar,
including about her financial disclosures.
Ilhan Omar is the first Somali-American in the U.S. Congress.
Since her 2018 election, she has endured repeated attacks
from US President Donald Trump regarding
her background.
