...to a small business. One local business owner is turning
her passion for baking into something of her own.
Fox 10's Androma Holmes takes us inside Janet's Sweet Treats
for this week's Made in Arizona.
I'm Janet, and I have a business called Janet's Sweet Treats.
I specialize in cake pops, cupcakes, gourmet cookies.
I started it because a friend had suggested
because I bake for so many birthdays, holidays,
friends, family, that maybe I should start selling them.
I think what makes my treats special is the time
and the heart you put into everything
you do.
I'm going to show you how I make my cookies and cream cake pops today.
First, we start with a box white cake mix.
Oil, neutral oil, and I'm using vegetable oil.
I never crack my eggs over my bowl.
I do crack them into my bowl.
I pour the whole thing
and put it in the oven.
We're going to start the timer off at 30 minutes,
and we'll check it at that point.
So I put the hot cake in the KitchenAid.
This is why I do the round cake, because I can just dump.
There's no cutting it into pieces.
Now we let it go.
As soon as it breaks up a little bit more, I'll turn up the speed.
And after a couple minutes, it will turn into a nice ball
of dough for me to work with and make into cake pop.
I'm going to go ahead and add some cookie pieces,
some of the Oreos into it to mix into the dough
so there's cookie pieces in the cake pop as well as in the chocolate.
And I usually put about a cup worth.
This is the cake pop dough and I'll go ahead
and start melting my almond bark.
I put it in the microwave for a minute first
and then 30 second intervals after and give
it a good stir.
Put the whole dough right here on this parchment.
I have a half inch markers on my rolling pin
so it'll roll my dough a half inch thick.
Now I'm just going to cut them out
with my round cake pop cutter.
I have my tray
and I got my lollipop sticks.
I dunk it, just the tip, barely,
into the chocolate and I put my, center it and push
it straight down.
I am going to pour some
of my cookie crumbs right into the chocolate.
So you dip it to the stick,
pull it out,
place it in there,
give it a nice twist.
I put a gold twist tie on it,
Wrap it twice, and there you go.
