The Rockets have a GOLDEN opportunity...
Oct 14, 2026
The Houston Rockets have a golden opportunity to get either one
of two big stars in college basketball this upcoming NBA draft.
This can have major ramifications on what
the Houston Rockets look like heading into next season
and what their game plan could possibly look like.
Hello everybody, I am Donovan Ordonez.

With that, let's get to our story for today.
We all know that the Houston Rockets will have
a mid-first-round late lottery draft pick.
I think 12, 13, 14 come this upcoming NBA draft.
And so there's a lot of decisions to be made with GM Rafael Stone.
Are we going to trade that away? Are we going to keep it?
And I want to focus on us keeping it.
Us, who are the potential prospects
that we could possibly get for our draft pick?
pick and so as we all know March Madness
is upon us college basketball is in full force
uh my bracket has been destroyed i don't like
that but uh things are are heating up in college
basketball there's a lot of good players
that are currently still in the tournament heading
into weekend two and one of those are two
of the players that we're talking about that are still
in this tournament are on uh one of the best teams
in college basketball if you guessed it
You probably get it right. It is the Duke Blue Devils.
There are two guys on this team that have the potential
of slipping to the Rockets this draft season.
Now, I'm not talking about Cooper Flagg. That would be great.
But chances of us getting Cooper Flagg are very little.
He's probably with a very crappy team.
But there's two guys.
And according to this new report, it says that there is a chance
that Duke's Kamon Maluach could slip all the way to 14
and land in the Houston Rockets' hands.
We can draft him with what they project the fourth overall pick.
That is Hoopside that is coming out with this new mock draft.
And so I want to get into it.
Who is Kamon Maluach?
What does this mean for the Rockets?
So Kamon Maluach is a 7-2 center for the Duke Blue Devils.
He's proven to be one of their biggest stars,
And he's actually projected to go
in the top 10 in a lot of mock drafts
And so the potential that the fact that he could possibly slip down
to 14 or 12 13 for the Houston Rockets is
Big time that is money that is insane value
for that pick for the Rockets. So I want to go and
show you all that is Jalen Green that does not come on
But I want to go and show you guys all what Matt Babcock
an NBA draft analyst said about his style
He said Maluach's size and mobility make him
an imposing defensive force and a reliable finisher around the rim
Additionally, he has shown glimpses of untapped offensive
Potential now that is insane
for a guy his size to still have
Offensive potential is insane
He is someone that is very very great
when it comes to defense as we go over here to his strength
He's an elite rim protector
He's able to block shots
when it comes to people coming in into the paint.
He's very athletic.
He's allowed to switch defensively
and recover quickly in help situations.
He's very, very athletic for his size, which is a great advantage
for someone heading into the NBA where everything is a lot quicker.
He's able to finish a lot of plays, finish around the basket.
Again, he's 7'2".
That is expected.
He can contest a lot of shots, as expected.
But he also has shooting potential.
He's got a lot of the right mechanics.
Everything looks good. It's just a matter of
can he actually make shots when it comes down
to it. So there's a lot to be said
about this guy and what he can bring value
and the value that he can bring
to the Houston Rockets.
If we can get him, that could just
further cement that double-big lineup
that Emeo Doka has used a lot
within these
past few games.
He really has
the potential to be that
Steven Adams kind of guy. We don't know how long
Steven Adams will be here, but
He can do that with Shingun him
and Shingun would make a terrifying duo for other teams
So if if you want a guy like that
uh he's definitely a guy to draft. He's very great.
He's very sound defensively, which just further
Increase the the efficiency of this defense
as we know we are already one of the best
When it comes to defense in the NBA
So having a guy like him could do tremendous things for our team,
but there was another Duke Blue Devil
that is on the team that could have a slightly more realistic chance
of falling in the Houston Rockets' hands,
and that is none other than Kaan Inevol.
He is a freshman out of Duke who plays really solid minutes
and really has been one of a key player
when it comes to the success Duke has had this season.
According to our insider earlier, Matt Babcock,
he says that Kaan Inevol, a sharpshooter with a high basketball IQ,
excels as a shooter, but
there's much more to his
game. He has quickly risen
as a top prospect, and that
is certainly true. He has proven
himself to be someone
that can very, very easily
be
someone that you can rely on when you
want a consistent shooter to get you
some points. And so, that brings me
to his strengths. He's a three-level scorer.
He can score beyond the arc, which he's fantastic
at. He's great at the mid-range.
It's very, very polished when it comes to him.
Going up at the ring. He's very efficient.
He can come off those off screens,
making him a very consistent offensive threat.
He's got a very high basketball IQ. He can read defenses very,
very well as a player for Duke in his first season there.
That should be no surprise. Duke is known for their schemes.
It's known for being a very high IQ basketball team.
Plus, Duke is just a good private school,
so that should tell you a lot already.
But yeah, a lot of strength when it comes to this guy.
He's 6'7", which is a great height for someone in the NBA.
Someone his height can have an advantage
of shooting over smaller defenders.
And so that is something that is a huge advantage
when it comes to his game in that aspect.
As far as his concerns,
he does struggle a lot with his defense and his athleticism.
He is not the most athletic guy on the draft board
when it comes to draft day.
He does struggle to move laterally against his main counterparts.
He's not as fast.
He's a lot slower, making it easier
for guys to kind of go right by him.
And he relies a lot on the help.
And so if you're going to play in the NBA,
let alone the Houston Rockets,
you are going to have to take steps in upgrading your defense.
The Houston Rockets are a team
that take immense pride in how to play defense.
and that just kind of shows that like if they do if they do go out
and get this guy that means that
they really really truly believe that he will be a an asset
when it comes to a shooting they believe
in his offensive ability that much that they're willing
to work on his defense a lot more and get
that to the place that he needs to be now one thing
that they will say about his offense is that
he tends to play at only one speed in transition uh
that just kind of limits his unpredictability
makes it easier to guard
and so in the NBA you got to change it up a lot and so getting more
move sets and things like that that can help him reach
a status of where he can score in a little
bit more of a variety of ways can definitely help him
as he is on the Houston Rockets next season
so with that being said i want to know what you guys think about
these two guys are they people
worth going after or do you think our chances
of getting them are just not in the cards who else
should we get who should we get uh
that's currently in March Madness or unfortunately
got sent home who do you think will be a great asset to this team
or do you think we should hit
this pick away do you think we should go out there
and get a guy like KD get a guy like D Book
what should we do let me know in the comments i
am very very happy take a look at it see what
you guys are thinking and with that thank you guys
so much for joining me here on Rockets Digest
we'll see you next time
