Only at five. Another wonderful update on Ace, the Polk County
canine officer that got shot in the line of duty over the summer.
Ace is now enjoying retirement with a new prosthetic leg after
his left front leg was amputated back in August.
Polk County Animal Control paved the way for this prosthetic
and Fox 13's Carla Byron spoke with a vet about how Ace
is adjusting to that new limb. Canine Ace is adjusting very well
to the new prosthetic leg made for him by a business in St. Pete.
Here's video of handler deputy Natalie Ace Strike and canine Ace looking
very happy with his new limb.
An armed suspect shot Ace back in early August, which required
his left front leg and shoulder blade to be amputated.
Dr. Kerry Jackson at Polk County
Animal Control helped Ace get his new leg
by contacting West Coast Brace and Limb in St.
Petersburg, one of the few businesses
that custom makes prosthetic limbs for animals.
He was actually in here yesterday to see me
and is doing extremely well. He walks on his own
with the leg now. Originally he didn't.
He still had to have his harness on and Natalie would hold
on to the harness as he was walking,
but now he's doing great actually running and jumping around
with the leg. It has been three weeks since canine Ace received
his new prosthetic leg
and we are currently working to find out who funded it.
Ace will be living with his handler
deputy Ace Strike for the rest of his life.
As for her, she will be selecting a new canine partner
very soon. In Polk County, Carla Byron, Fox 13 News.
