New details are emerging following the death
of Breaking Bad star R.J. Mitte as friends and
former co-stars remember the actor
and share insight into some of the challenges he was facing
before his death at 34.
Mitte's ex-girlfriend Saint Sasha paid tribute to the actor in an
emotional Instagram post sharing throwback photos of the pair together.
Sasha who dated Mitte when
they were teenagers remembered him as one of the kindest
and rarest hearts she had ever known.
She also credited Mitte with showing
her how a partner should treat her,
writing that he was the first person to make her feel unstoppable.
She ended her tribute by thanking him and expressing her love for him.
The actor had gotten engaged to his girlfriend of five years,
Kennedy Suarez, in October 2025.
He proposed at a charity event benefiting
United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego,
where he served as an ambassador.
Meanwhile, Mitte's Breaking Bad co-star Luis Moncada
is opening up about their final days together.
Moncada, who played Marco Salamanca on the AMC series,
said he reunited with Mitte at a charity
golf tournament more than a week before his death.
Moncada noticed that something seemed
different about his friend, describing him as unusually tired and sad.
He invited Mitte to the
Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta
the following day in the hopes of lifting his spirits.
Moncada said Mitte seemed to be struggling
with the pressures of life and feeling pulled in
different directions. He became emotional
while recalling their final conversation,
revealing that he had invited Mitte to stay
with him and his son for a few days.
Mitte declined, but Moncada asked him to promise to call
when he got home. He said that call never
came. Mitty's death has also renewed attention
to the professional challenges he faced as an
actor with cerebral palsy.
In text messages obtained by the Daily Mail, Mitty expressed
frustration over being offered roles that gave
his characters little depth or treated disability as
their defining characteristic.
In 2022, he wrote that he was receiving scripts in which his
character would essentially be a prop,
adding that he had started writing his own material.
He also spoke about casting directors overlooking him
for roles that weren't specifically written
for disabled characters.
Despite those frustrations, Mitty continued advocating for
greater representation and opportunity for people with disabilities.
Just weeks before his death,
he told Page Six he was cautiously optimistic
that Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan might
have plans for a spin-off.
I'm cautiously optimistic that Vince has something in mind.
I'm not entirely sure.
You know, at the end of the day, any chance I can work with Vince
and his team is a dream come true.
Mitty's cause of death was confirmed as suicide,
according to his representative.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death was
ongoing, and a medical examiner was expected
to determine the manner of death following an autopsy.
His former on-screen father, Bryan Cranston,
shared his devastation in a tribute,
recalling that the two had
been texting just weeks earlier to arrange lunch.
Cranston said he would miss Mitty
and remembered him for his determination,
noting that he never allowed cerebral palsy
to become an excuse for not meeting the demands of
the job. Aaron Paul also paid tribute to his co-star,
saying he was heartbroken by the news
and reminding others that they are loved and not alone.
Mitty leaves behind a legacy that
It extends beyond his role
as Walter White Jr. on Breaking Bad, including his work as
a disability rights advocate
and his efforts to challenge stereotypes on screen.
