This is William Chapman.
The 23-year-old man was killed after climbing into an enclosure
with this Siberian tiger.
The incident took place here at Yorkshire Wildlife Park on the
afternoon of October 10th.
Video circulating online shows the tiger biting Chapman before
he falls to his back, gesturing at the animal to stop.
South Yorkshire police say he died at
the park from his injuries.
Chapman's family is now pleading with the public to stop sharing the
video of their son's final moments.
They say he suffered from significant mental illness
over the years and was prescribed strong medication,
adding that it will be for the coroner to
decide what part this played in his death.
The family are utterly devastated by their loss
and are struggling to come to terms with what has happened.
The publication and circulation
of deeply offensive media content is causing them severe distress
and an exceptionally
vulnerable time. We ask people to stop doing this.
The request comes after US President
Donald Trump's Truth Social account reposted
a video of the attack on October 13th, saying,
Don't ever mess with nature.
He followed that up with an AI-generated video compilation of animals
attacking people, and another AI-generated video
of himself wrestling a tiger, making the same
gestures as Chapman did before he died.
Police say a coroner's investigation is underway into
Chapman's cause of death,
and Yorkshire Wildlife Park says the tiger will not be euthanized.
