KickFlip talks new album, LA, and first world tour

Hello, I'm Kiefer. Hello. I'm so excited to talk to you guys. I think when I saw your performance at KCON, you guys really stood out to me out of the whole bunch that were there. So I was so excited when I'm giving this opportunity. I want to congratulate you guys on this comeback. Since we're talking about the puzzle piece, I want to start off with something fun. Everyone brings something different to kickflip, so what role or energy do each of you bring to the kickflip puzzle? Okay, my name is Dongha, and I think I'm the cheerleader of this group because I have a lot of energy. Thank you. I'm a leader, so I can do anything. So if you have a problem, don't worry. Thank you very much. And I'm KJ. I'm like the charger Yeah, I'm Minjae and I'm the strongest member in this team Hi, my name is Donghyun and I'm the youngest in this group and I'm the voice of this group Well, the message behind puzzle piece really stood out to me because there's this idea that even if you still are figuring things out where you fit in the puzzle, you still can appreciate who you are right now. So why was that message so important for you guys to share? This album is about 嗯 We yeah questions we started asking ourselves at the turn of our 20s yeah And we also wanted to share the answers we found Things and the first thing that stood out to me was how emotional it felt it still has the band sound that like kickflip but it's softer and more sentimental so instead of only showing strong energy we try to bring out more of our emotions and make the song feel honest and personal and about the worries we had in person we wanted to tell them there's no answer so it's all good to struggle completely agree with that and i you guys literally dropped the music video yesterday which is sunday um so i want to talk about it uh fans have been talking about the visual storyline was there a specific scene or acting moment in the music video that challenged you or was very special to I would say the chorus dance part. We danced inside the rain, that's a little bit cold, so that's a little bit hard. But it's fun! Yeah! It was fun! It was like 4 a.m. in the morning when we were recording the dancing scenes. So it was definitely a challenge, but we made it. We did it! Yeah, we did it! We did it! We did it! We did it! We did it! You did it! I love you guys. You guys did so good. You guys mentioned the rain part. So I'm curious, was there any retakes or did you guys do that in one take or how long did it take you guys to perfect that rain scene? Yeah, we did so many takes. I think about seven times. Six times? Six times? Six, seven times? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But you know, with my members, it doesn't matter. Yeah, we can do anything. And you talked about the chorus, which was very memorable. I personally like where you guys are kicking, and then you do the little turn. that's so memorable but yes and um but i want to ask you is there a small detail where somewhere else in the performance that you want fans to notice i think the important part is um i think that lyrics more handle it and then we we did Eye contact? Oh, yeah. Yeah. 7, 8! Yeah, like this. This is also your first comeback with double title tracks. Why did Puzzle Piece and Kick Off the Wall both feel so important enough to represent this album? Uh, because Puzzle Piece is the question of our 20s, and the Kick Off the Wall is the answer. So that's our journey. So with the two songs, the album is completed, yeah. And then speaking of kicking off the wall, very different energy from Puzzle Piece. What side of yourselves did you guys want to bring out with this song? Even if we worry about things, there's no answers. So we just gotta go for it and see what is happening just in front of us. so that is the most important thing and yes we wanted to show through this song that we can do this kind of style because we never did before so and we want to show our powerful performance yeah so let's look forward to it and I wanted to ask you about the performance how do these performance and choreography compared between the two are that one of them harder than the other was one most noticeably like harder to execute live because there's so many jump so we have to control our body it's hard to keep a vocal clear when it's career and you're releasing this as kickflip but you're also releasing it featuring Ian Dior which you filmed in Los Angeles. How did that collaboration come together and was there a specific moment during the process where you knew that his style was the right fit? Actually since we were training we practiced a lot of Ian's songs so we always wanted to collaborate with Ian and luckily we got an opportunity to collaborate together with Ian so we met first in LA and the specific experience is we just like play hang out together while we shooting our music video that was the scene and we talked about pokemon card too yeah okay he loves pokemon card he has a lot of pokemon cards yeah wow and you guys are talking about your bond with um Ian, how was it, how is it um the vibe that you got from him, did you guys click instantly was there something else that besides Pokemon that you guys bonded over Ian and I talked about the fashion yeah and Ian really loves Korean brand so I recommend some brand and we talked about if Ian comes to Korea we hang out with Ian yeah what's the place that you're going to show him yes but you know Jamsil, Jamsil Lotte yeah Jamsil Lotte or World tower nice well hopefully we get to see that collaboration on video right it comes to korea everything is on us oh we can bring it anywhere olympic park yeah call call me well i want to continue to talk about your your album because one thing that stands out to me about your music is the alternative edge that runs through a lot of your discography is there is that a sound that you've always wanted to lean um for or is it something that you've discovered together we always want to try to try some a lot of genre and kick off the wall is too powerful and this is just part of the genre oh we want to explore and you guys are so involved in your creative process which makes you guys even more unique uh when you guys are helping with your own music what's that kickflip ingredient that you add to um that only you guys can add to um maybe like guitar sound like rock band sound like that we love the genre of rock try a lot of rock band sound yeah and our lyrics is a little bit weird i think that's the important part our goofy and rebellious energy and when different members are putting ideas together what does that process look like because there's there's seven of you so that's like how how do you guys each of like i want this but i want that but i want this how do you guys come into an agreement uh usually we choose just a good idea yeah we vote yeah we vote together i have to ask you about um hate blueberries because the title immediately caught my attention who hates blueberries and how did that become a kickflip song yeah i made this song and uh first i don't hate blueberries but i wanted to write a song about food but things like you know cucumbers a little bit weird so I chose blueberries and blue is also connected to emotion yeah yeah you know how it feels when you grow up there's something you feel that oh I'm grown up in in the in the past I didn't like this but now I'm okay with it yeah I'm okay with it yeah amazing well if i had to hand you guys an aux cord and say play me one song of this album which song would you play first zero because zero means i don't have anything so uh now it's start so we can do anything so start from zero yes start from zero young young young we are young What are you talking about, Wooyoung? it's very unique. I choose rockin' and I like this song's rock band sound. I choose Young because my part is very very high note. Definitely hate Blueberry. Thank you. And Keiju, I have to also point out that your birthday is October 4th, which the album comes out two days later. Is good would you say this is the best birthday present or would you say this is the busiest birthday present happy happy? Birthday Destiny Ah Happy Birthday Thank you very much And you guys have spent so much time together throughout the years I'm guessing everyone has picked up some little habits from each other What is something you do now that you blame on another member entirely? Before I met Dongha, I never yelling while I'm living. But after I met Dongha, always shouting. Before I met Minjae, I didn't eat anything. But I met Minjae, I eat everything. When everyone is tired and stressed, who can completely change the mood in the room and how do they do it? Definitely Dongha and Keiju. You have high energy. Dongha is very funny. I'm the cheerleader of this group. I change the mood if I want. Like this, let's dance. You know, this vibe is Keekly vibe. Amazing. Well, I have to talk about LA because you guys have been here a couple of times. So you've performed at KCON, you filmed your music videos, and now you spent working time on this project. Has there anything, Um has there anything about LA that is different than what you expected when you come here? Because LA has such a nice sky and nice weather. Yeah, the weather is so good. So when we took our music video in there, it was so nice because of the weather. And the people in LA, they are so nice to us. And they get to speak to us. Hi, so there were so many chances to use English Did you guys come up with any like obsession did like upsets with the food the fashion any shops? We love In-N-Out Burger Say Wingstop Wingstop is our favorite store shop. Minjae's favorite menu is double-double with raw onions. We went to Target market yeah so we bought the cereal cinnamon cereal yeah cinnamon taste cereal so yeah very good it was very good. Okay and I noticed that people in LA have really strong individual styles you know I really into fashion and I really like that everyone seems confident and who they are and comfortable being themselves yeah I I was reading through the fine print of your comeback schedule and I noticed that it said kick off the the wall tour for next year so what was your reaction when you first found out that you're going on your first tour what was what is something that you dream of doing at a kickflip concert that you might finally get the chance to doing on this tour oh I really want to have moments where we can just interact with WeFlip and enjoy the music together at our own concert we'll have more time to show different sides of ourselves not just title tracks I think seeing everyone singing and jumping together would be amazing and is there any song in your discography it could be in this album or it could be in your other albums as well that you thought like this has to be on my set list actually there are no choreography in song drop-in but if we can perform drop-in in our tour then I want to make some choreography in this drop-in for me it's definitely kick off the wall I already imagine how much energy it could have connect with everyone jumping together I think it's the kind of song that will become even more exciting when we perform it from the roof from off with it I think you guys are gonna tear the roof off the place when kickum kick off the wall um you guys perform that song not the walls maybe but the roof for sure one last thing i noticed is the kick off the wall part one calling it part one tells us that this isn't finished yet without giving anything away you know i guess you're not supposed to but what's something you hope um people take away from this chapter we don't uh yeah i hope they remember that you don't have to have everything figured out yet then this album comes from the real questions and worries we've had while growing up too we're still unfinished but that also means there are so many possibilities ahead of us so I hope we can keep finding our answers together yeah we can we flip yeah finally what do you want to say to we flip who have been waiting for this album and everything that comes next for you I want to do I want to do something to Weflip. I want to kiss. Goodnight kiss or morning kiss? I'm both. We put a lot of our real feelings into this album. So I hope we all can find comfort in it too.
