Climate scientist says he's increasingly confident
in the possible impacts of a powerful El Nino this winter.
And the odds of at least one very wet month
in excess of 150 percent of average is close to 90
to 100 percent in almost every region in California.
University of California scientist Daniel Swain said
record warm water along the California coast is increasing
the odds of a wetter than average winter statewide.
He said some predictions are calling for close to twice
the average amount of rain here in the Bay Area.
The data points to January and February as being the wettest months.
Swain also expects to see extremely high king tides along
the flooding along the coast this winter.
Wow.
All right, Brian Gallo is here to talk about today's weather.
I sure am.
Thank you, sir.
I appreciate that.
Good morning, everyone.
And, yeah, as you already know,
pretty active, just weather generally, right?
Well, for us, we've got two things to focus on.
One is this snap of heat, a quick heat wave, which will be short-lived,
and also this elevated risk as far as the fire threat, right?
We are seeing incredibly low humidity.
It's going to be bone dry as we move through the next few days,
and added offshore winds.
We're talking about gusty conditions.
So if you see smoke or fire, you know the drill.
Make sure to report it.
Cool conditions, as to be expected, layer up.
especially if you're in areas such as Santa Rosa.
Beautiful shot behind that and the absence
of that cloud cover yet again.
We had some cloud cover yesterday, today.
Sky cover will be minimal and really no fog to worry about.
And that marine layer also absent.
All thanks to just incredibly dry conditions.
Today, day one, so numbers are going to bump up.
It's going to be a slow progression today,
but we'll really start to feel the effects tomorrow,
Friday, as well as Saturday.
And you can see on average we should be seeing temperatures
closer to about uh 79 for areas such as Livermore
and it looks like San Jose and San Francisco as
well as Hayward will be right on par with their seasonal averages
this is due to expire today at
4 p.m we're talking about king tides and sneaker waves
so just be aware uh five to ten feet here's
what we're seeing uh this again is that absence
of that marine layer as well as the absence of
cloud cover so slather on that sunscreen
and get ready it's going to be a gorgeous day 7 15 that
sun will rise folks and here we have it
as i mentioned as far as fog nothing really to worry
about all right i've got more including uh
your uh five day plus your forecast at highs and a look
at this shot of rain that'll move our way come early next week
