In July of this year, I presented a report
to the President called Science, A New Golden Age,
and it laid out a playbook for how
the United States can revitalize its science ecosystem.
It covers how we can once again support young American scientists,
how we can boldly pursue
national scientific missions,
and how ultimately we can apply superintelligence to scientific
discovery. That has culminated today with this summit here
in Washington to bring all the pieces
the innovation ecosystem together,
whether it's from government, academia, private sector,
and philanthropy, to unite together to push
and accelerate American science.
For 250 years, the United States has led the world in innovation
and transformed the lives
of countless people using science and technology.
We tamed electricity, invented the light bulb,
developed the airplane, harnessed the atom,
unleashed the power of personal computers,
created the internet, pioneered superintelligence,
and invented almost everything else of genius and
great importance anywhere in the world.
We live in an age of American wonders and technological
magical marvels.
And with the help of the brilliant men and women here today,
we will always be on top.
Well, we're in the golden age of science and technology because
President Trump has assembled outstanding leadership
that is getting this nation
underway, doing the big, bold endeavors
that once defined American exceptionalism from decades past.
We're taking on the most challenging infrastructure projects,
the most demanding science and engineering programs,
from quantum computing to returning to the moon and building
a moon base to getting underway on space and on nuclear power.
I think it's just an incredible time.
If you think about just over 100 years ago
when people were starting to have the automobile, the airplane,
you know, nobody could have imagined flight before then.
I think where the digital technology is now coming to, the capability
of the AIs today, it was unimaginable just a couple decades ago.
And the things that we are able to do incredibly quickly now
that we could never before is unbelievable.
We're in the golden age of American tech and science
because there are so many industries where simultaneously we
are at the verge of significant breakthroughs.
In my career, I've gone from a graduate student doing very fundamental
research to being able to do more practical research over the years
because of government funding to develop that technology.
So when you talk about private-public partnerships
and that whole ecosystem working well,
I've kind of been living that, and I really appreciate that.
I think we have accelerating progress in science and technology,
really because we have so many innovative engineers and scientists
and companies, and our capital system is investing in those.
When you think about what we're doing here in America,
we are pushing the bleeding edge of every aspect of computing
and science and superintelligence.
And we're solving some of the world's most important challenges
and problems that previously you never thought could happen.
And America's leading all of it,
so it's an incredible time for Americans in science.
If you think about what happened the last time,
there was this unbelievable change in
the world in terms of a general purpose technology,
there was the industrial revolution, and the
United States was perhaps the biggest importer
of that and the scaler of that.
This time, I think the United States
is both the creator and the scaler.
This is really the inflection point for superintelligence and robots.
When you have super intelligence and robots,
you can essentially invent anything and build
anything.
Unprecedented medical breakthroughs,
this is the most exciting time in history, ever.
With everything that's happening across science overall,
with all of the new discoveries happening
in AI, with new data collection that's possible,
thanks to new sequencing technologies, thanks
to CRISPR and so forth, I mean,
there's a long way to go, but I feel very hopeful.
When we see that something is about to be possible,
all of a sudden the entire industries
and all of the willpower of the entrepreneurs
and scientists and innovators, the resources
of industry coming together,
it is the reason why in the last four years and what you'll
see in the next 10 years,
all of this energy is going to come together to give our country
this incredible step function leap forward.
the progress from machine learning
to artificial intelligence to now super
intelligence is really powering our whole world forward
and I think it is a
great kind of leap forward
and sort of speed up moment for our species and so
that has me tremendously excited I think the pace of discovery
and acceleration
in science and technology
in the next decade will be tremendous because of
this? Frankly, across the board, I mean,
in every one of the most exciting domains from under the
sea to the surface, to in air, to infrastructure,
again, energy, super intelligence, but I am
in charge of NASA. So of course,
the space domain is what's closest to my heart. And this
is an opportunity during our time to really pursue
and unlock the secrets of the universe,
to return to the moon, build a moon base,
get underway on nuclear power in space,
potentially answer the question, are we alone?
And are we alone even in our own solar system
is only possible because of President Trump
and because of this golden age of science
and discovery that he's ushering in.
President Trump came in to clear out the nonsense,
clear out a focus on top-down control,
the science as it was becoming called.
That's not science.
Science is human creativity unleashed.
With the nuclear renaissance launched by President Trump,
we're going to unleash the boundaries of space.
We're going to learn from the moon, from Mars, from the satellite,
of Jupiter and Saturn.
We're going to restore science to its rightful place,
which is untethered, which is a search for truth.
We all work as a team. Satya, Elon, Sundar, and Zuck.
All of us, we're all working as one team.
And the reason for that is because we're working
at different layers of the stack.
You know, we're at the beginning
of a new industrial revolution. Every single layer
of our industry is being reinvented at the same time and now with the
foundation for superintelligence we now have
the ability to activate a whole
different field all these different fields
of sciences and create all these
different new companies there has never
been a better time to pursue science
than today what superintelligence has done
for the scientific community is
probably one of the most transformational things we're ever going
to see in discovery if working
on material science chemistry math physics
you will be leveraging superintelligence
to drive next-generation discoveries, and
the pace and the velocity of these discoveries are things that we could
never even imagine. So for every scientist today, when they're at their
lab bench or they're in their office starting
to pursue something, they have a
powerful tool that they've never had before,
and we're making great, great new
discoveries to push America forward.
