Hello, I'm CBC's David Fraser with breaking news
from Barrhaven at the intersection of Crescent
and Strandherd Drive
It just reopened but was closed for hours earlier today as a pedestrian
was struck and killed by a vehicle.
Paramedics tell us that they were called around 6 20 a.m
and the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
We don't have any other information about that
person as next of kin is still being notified earlier
this morning a dark gray Toyota
sedan was here throughout the morning officers could
be seen taking pictures of the vehicle
with pylons around it we could
also see the car's exterior body does have some damage to it of
course we don't know where that damage came
from at this time for several hours though police did
have caution tape around it as they looked it over taking
those pictures. Police did tell us
earlier this month that there had been 26 traffic related fatalities
and eight life-threatening
injuries. Today's death brings that number
to 27 including now eight pedestrians. This is also the
third fatal collision in five days on Ottawa's road.
Ottawa police telling us that there are
some common factors in these fatalities,
including the use of substances, speeding and dangerous
driving. Ottawa police, of course,
urging drivers to stay safe on the roads.
David Fraser, CBC News, Ottawa.
