AI GeneratedThis news broadcast covers a range of local and social issues, including a fatal plane crash in Sauk County, the Milwaukee Brewers' NLCS momentum, and Marcus Theaters' gourmet menu expansion. It also provides Halloween safety tips and features a poignant discussion on the documentary \"Your Attention, Please,\" which addresses the devastating impact of social media and cyberbullying on youth.
All right, welcome to Milwaukee right now.
We do want to get out to some breaking news that
we're dealing with. So this is happening in Sauk County this morning.
Six people are dead after a
plane crash in the town of Delona.
So that's just southwest of the Wisconsin Dells. Our Andrew
Muzza was live there with what we know so far.
Good morning, Andrew. Good morning, Derek. I just
got here about 10 minutes ago,
and this is sort of the details that we've been hearing all morning
long. As of right now, let's just paint the picture,
and then we'll get into more of those
details. I'm going to step aside just
to show just what we're seeing right now. Not a whole lot. All
we're seeing is this squad vehicle from the state patrol.
And then you're seeing this police tape
as well. Then you're kind of seeing that this kind
of goes up a hill in that kind of area. That's
where we are seeing that to be more of the residential side.
So we do hear that there
is a residential area in this general area, but also the wooded area.
So it's sort of that mix
between the two. But as you mentioned, Derek,
six people, five adults, one child dead in this
plane crash. We are in Sauk County,
and they said this crash happened just around 9:30 p.m. on
Tuesday. Now, there is some more information
that we're learning about where the travels
in regards to this flight.
Now, what's really taken place, it started what we're learning from
Kenosha and then traveling to Menominee,
but of course, making landfall here. There aren't
any indicators just yet that's still under investigation
as far as the weather and if that
really did play a role we were able to have
our Fox 6 weather expert specifically Rob Haswell talk
about the weather conditions during that time
that he did point out that there were some thunderstorms
in the area that time but of course we cannot generalize
or really finalize that conclusion as
far as if that really did play a role
into the crash happening as of right now. Something else
want to point out especially in regards to plane crashes
and this being near a residential area
there are no reports as of right now
from the county sheriff's office with there being no
ground injuries or any structural damage as well
that's where that wooded area does come into play
now this squad vehicle is backing up i'm trying
to see if we can get a better vantage point and
hopefully doesn't move forward
of those orange cones down there just before uh this hit maybe
30 seconds before we were live just now i i spoke
with the patrol officer and he pointed me to those
orange cones he says that we are not allowed
as media to be by those orange cones but he does
say that a piece of the airplane of the aircraft
is over there you're seeing another vehicle um
start to make its way down over there
and so the order for us as media is to be on this side
of the road he said that more of the investigation
is happening down there by those orange cones
and into the wooded area
but that's the newest thing that we are hearing just minutes ago so a
lot of questions still remain especially
in regards to what went into this plane crash even
happening and what's next as well we are hearing
that there's possibly going to be a briefing later
on today we're still unsure if media will
be invited to that but of course we'll give you all
those updates as we hear more especially in regards to this plane crash
and even identifying
the people that were involved we are reporting
um that there are no survivors at this time
one thing i think we're going to be looking
to learn more about as well andrew is that our
understanding is that the pilot of that plane did make contact
with a local air traffic controller
sometime before the plane went down
so i know that investigators are going to be trying to get that
information of those conversations
those audio recordings about you know what this pilot was
dealing with when the plane ultimately crashed.
So again, there's going to be a press briefing
this afternoon. We'll see if we will be included in that.
We would think that we would be.
But Andrew Muso, thank you
so much for reporting for us on the ground there in Sauk County,
right outside of the Wisconsin Dells.
That was our first look at the aircraft right there through
that aerial footage that we were just seeing for the first time.
The damage was just horrific. And
And when you think residential area,
you're thinking of subdivision, things like that.
You can see just how close two homes were to this area.
So, obviously, as soon as we get more details
and learn more, we'll bring that to you.
That's very sad.
All right, Channel 5, let's switch gears here a little bit.
All righty.
Well, excitement is brewing in other parts
of our community this morning
as brewers prepare to take on the Dodgers
for Game 3 of the NLCS in Los Angeles.
The stage is set there for the championship series game.
It will be at, what, 7 p.m. our time.
Yes, that's when the first pitch is going to be.
The crew right now has a 2-0 series lead over the Dodgers
with a pair of dramatic victories in Milwaukee.
We know Brew Crew fans believe in this team, and the players do too.
The expectations for us are super high.
So in terms of where we're at at this point, are we surprised?
I don't think so.
The belief had to be there at some point.
They didn't just wake up yesterday morning or this morning and say,
you know, we can do this thing.
I think their belief has been there.
I love this. You know, it's interesting.
I asked Stephanie when she's been out reporting for us,
like, you know, you've got to think that these fans
and the teammates are thinking about Bob Uecker,
perhaps what he would be saying during a time like this.
And she was saying a lot of them in terms of the fans she's spoken
with on the ground have been talking about they wish he was here to see
this moment, see the crew's momentum, the energy in the city as well.
And you see that in that Ute documentary that came out.
That was something he really wanted to witness,
and he really wanted to call a World Series game with the Brewers.
And I think that was a big disappointment for him before he passed,
that he never had the opportunity to do that.
But a lot of the players believe that he's there.
He's their angel in the outfield.
So, yeah, that spirit is certainly, you can feel it.
From the players to the back office, front office,
everyone's just kind of like doing it for him.
Yes.
You know, the Brewers are different this year,
But I would say that the Dodgers are, too, because Shohei Ohtani.
Not the guy we saw a year ago.
No, not at all.
You know, I'm not a big sports person,
but it kind of goes to show that, you know, things change.
Things happen in life.
He really carried that team to their victory last year.
And this year, he seems to be having
a hard time with some medical stuff.
It's a sport that's really hard on your body.
And, you know, this is a different Dodgers,
but these are also different Brewers.
So people are comparing this year to last year.
It really is a difference.
It's incomparable to a degree.
Totally.
Okay, so we are really excited because we've got
our own all-star lineup out in L.A. for you all week long.
Lily, Brandon, and Ted are there all throughout the week here,
and they're going to be providing live reports
for you throughout all day parts right here on Fox 6 and on Fox Local.
Fans are all over the place, including our fire department.
Okay, you could say we're pretty confident here in Milwaukee.
after the Brewers won both games, one and two.
So obviously, our Milwaukee Fire Chief Aaron Lipsky
is really confident,
so he decided to put in a little wager.
Check it out.
Chief Moore, Chief Aaron Lipsky, City of Milwaukee Fire Department.
Friendly challenge for you.
We've got our two baseball teams playing
a somewhat important set of games here.
I would like to challenge you to a friendly little sparring match here
in hopes that the Milwaukee Brewers take all.
If we win, you have to wear a Milwaukee Fire Department T-shirt proudly
and post it on social media.
If you win, I'll do the same.
Chief Lipsky, Chief Moore here, Los Angeles City Fire Department.
I accept your challenge.
As a matter of fact, I've got a T-shirt that I cannot wait to send you.
Go Dodgers!
Great. I love this. This is great.
Even more reason I feel like we're going to win now, too.
I love how everyone in every facet
of every community gets involved with these friendly
little bets and wagers.
It just brings out the excitement and friendly competition among
everybody. We normally see it for the Packers,
but I feel like the baseball is brewing so much
part of the fun that everyone's excited.
We're confident. I thought he was going to challenge
him to a pickleball game or something.
He'll dominate. Oh my gosh. Well, okay. The animals
are getting in on the fun too as well here's what's happening
at the zoo in Milwaukee uh okay
so the zoo shared this video of one of its red pandas one of its tigers
and its family farm cat
all enjoying some baseball themed enrichment
if you take a look there so cute it's a cool
looking panda isn't it all righty okay
so it looks like they are in on the Dodgers too they
want to beat those guys as well
but it looks like yeah everyone's getting in on this in my mind i
thought he was gonna like paw
and straight up like claw it out sniffing around sniffing out
the competition that's awesome
with the cat there yeah i can watch that all day yeah that's
entertaining and soothing oh and i can
also watch this i love when we mix kids with the
Brewers right lots of people of all ages
are celebrating the Brewers the exciting postseason
run Children's Wisconsin's pediatrician
in chief prescribed a little silliness for patients over
the last few weeks.
So Dr. Dave Maragolis is continuing the tradition of rallying support
for Wisconsin sports by letting patients spray his hair team colors.
Well I've been having kids
spray paint my hair for sporting events now for over 20 years
and at Children's Wisconsin we
believe that every kid needs to be able to be a kid
and I feel like I'm part of the child life
experience and i've never had a kid not enjoy spray painting
my hair i love it you know i always
love the doctors and how just engaging they
are like medicine aside literally their bedside manner
is so meaningful to all of these kids
and look at the smiles on their faces it's just a fun time
good for them all right
so as the brewers make their playoff push the doctor says he and his
young helpers are making sure there's plenty
of milwaukee pride at children's wisconsin
You know it's going to be such a great break from going
through whatever kind of treatment they must be going through
or having the doctors come in at all hours of the night,
or nurses, I should say, and doctors.
But that is wonderful to see those smiles in that kind of environment.
And I love, too, how this is something that Dr. Margolis
is kind of becoming known for in our community.
So I think, you know, when kids are there,
that's something that they can look forward to.
That's so true.
Because we know, like, a lot of kids
are dealing with a lot of tough stuff.
And so having a little boost in their spirit can help them fight
and deal with whatever it is that they're dealing with.
So, yeah, attitude is everything.
Okay, still ahead this morning, so much more than just popcorn.
Graham is checking out the new menu items
that are coming to Marcus Theaters.
I cannot wait for this.
Yeah.
Next.
About
dinner
and a
movie.
Yes.
At the movies.
So convenient.
Yes, Marcus Theaters is adding some new additions to the menu.
Yes, Brian Cramp is at the Marcus Majestic Cinema out in Brookfield,
getting a firsthand look
and a firsthand taste at some of the new options.
You know, Cramp, we know that going
to the movies is not what it used to be.
The seats are way comfier.
They've got a lot of places that have wine and beer now.
I mean, they're really making an effort
to bring people in and fill seats.
Yeah, filling seats is one thing.
Keeping them here, that's a complete other
thing I think you want to get here early.
You're probably going to watch a movie.
You might even stay for a drink afterwards.
Marco, thanks for joining us.
Thanks for inviting us, too.
You know, as a guy who's been in the industry
for 20 years, started part-time,
what was that first food item
that you remember going to the movie and having?
Was it popcorn or was it something else?
So my go-to would have been a nachos with cheese
and then extra jalapeno.
Solid choice.
But that was also two decades ago, right?
It was.
And things have evolved a little bit, wouldn't you say?
And you guys with Marcus do a great job of switching things up,
not just based on the movies that are in the theaters,
but also seasonally as well.
And I don't remember there ever being a tomato parmesan focaccia.
Focaccia.
Focaccia, sorry.
But that's what that first sandwich is right there.
When you guys are doing the menu, how do you start?
Do you start with what your guests are wanting,
or do you start with your own tastes?
It's kind of a mix of all of those things,
and this process starts really early in the game for us.
So today is the debut day for these items and some other ones.
Today, October 14th, but we start this process,
gosh, probably going back to March.
Really?
Yes.
Getting customer feedback, employee feedback, seeing different trends
that are happening at other restaurants and concepts,
and just finding our own unique, fun ways to put spins on things.
It's interesting you said restaurants, too,
because a lot of people don't consider the theater a restaurant,
but you're serving restaurant-style food and quality food.
Absolutely.
You know, Marcus Theaters has been around for 90-plus years now.
We just celebrated 90 years last year.
Yeah.
And you learn to adapt over time, right?
So we've come a long way from,
and you'll still have them, popcorn, soda, nachos.
But now we get to offer all these great expanded food
and beverage offerings that we're really excited to talk about.
Well, I'm excited the fact that we can get it on a plate,
but I'm also excited as a parent that's dealt
with kids trying to hold food in a movie theater
that I'm inherently holding all of the food
and all of the stuff so he can eat,
that this is just sitting right on their lap.
Absolutely.
So, you know, for today, obviously, we wanted
to make sure that we presented some of the items
on some actual plateware, but also show you how you're going
to get it presented to you in the auditorium.
You know, a greaseproof box,
you don't have to worry about it sitting in your lap
and then leaking through, and avoid some
of those messes that you're talking about.
Yeah, I mean, I'm checking out that chicken.
And so what's the second one here?
Is that a buffalo chicken sandwich?
What is that?
Yeah, so that's a buffalo chicken sandwich.
And you know, in some of the research that we've done,
we found that buffalo as a flavor
has really resonated with our guests.
You know, we offer a buffalo chicken wrap right now,
some other ways on a pizza or tossing your wings.
And we just wanted to find another way
to offer that flavor profile to the guests.
And that's how we came across this sandwich
on a sesame seed bun, some lettuce, some banana peppers,
and really just tried to keep it simple
so that that buffalo flavor could come through.
Right.
And, yeah, we're really happy with how that turned out.
The seasoning on the menu says sizzle seasoning.
Does that mean it has a kick?
No, I just say it has some flavor to it.
A little pizzazz.
Yeah, I don't think anyone needs to worry
if they're worried about spicy necessarily.
You're not going to be sweating after you take a bite.
No, not at all.
I mean, the buffalo will have a mild kick to it, but, yeah.
But you do have peppers on things, too.
Banana peppers don't have too much of a kick.
But I love the fact that you're kind
of throwing this together in a hoagie bun,
but that's definitely not a hot dog.
that's chicken as well correct yeah
so this is our bird dog um and so again doing some of the
research we found that you know chicken tenders
are the number one appetizer that we sell by far
and we wanted to find a fun and different way
to kind of present it to the guest and this is what
we came up with so it's a chicken tender placed
into a split top hoagie hawaiian roll bun with
some mixed cheeses on top some bacon banana pepper honey mustard sauce
so think of you know the
format of a hot dog but kind of kicked up a notch
with some different ingredients yeah and this is
what we came up with and yeah we're really excited
with how this one i like that you can kick it up
flavor wise and still it can be approachable
for all palettes sometimes it's it's it can be a
little intimidating to see a pepper on top of a sandwich yeah
but but that's going to be more on
the sweet side than on the heat side correct
and the menu my goodness i know that you have other
ones that you're going to show later on today
but it's not just sandwiches and apps i mean you're
doing aren't you doing some breakfast items too
or don't you have some or are they uh not right
now right now i heard the rumor of breakfast
but you guys do have some some beefy salads here for
sure and talk about these crinkle cut fries i see
a little bit of a seasoning on there are they all
seasoned yeah so they're all seasoned that's
that sizzle seasoning that you talked about let me
right yep you got a nice crunch to it yeah yeah it's
our proprietary blend so i'll have to keep
that close to the vest as far as what's in it
but i would say a little pepper um salt for sure
maybe in a very slight amount maybe of a chili
or something like that or i'd say you're pretty
darn close paprika or something like that yeah
um for you this has got to be fun and knowing that
you started in the industry what was your first job
by the way uh i was an usher um at our orland
park location in the southwest suburbs of chicago yeah
so now as operations manager of food and
beverage corporate side I mean the potential did you think
that it was ever going to be there that
you'd be running the show and it came to the food
that you're going to be eating while you're
watching it's hard to say that you ever see
this coming right you know you get this part-time job
in high school just thinking it's going to get you
by to pay your cell phone bill get your gas
to get from a to b and then yeah here you are 20 years later
and you're you're presenting food to
an audience uh that you know you had a big hand
in helping develop along with Chris who's our
corporate chef for Marcus Theatres
and speaking of Chris, Chris just came out earlier on that was
him right he brought this giant pizza we're not going
to get to it yet but i'm just going to tell
you guys now this is a theater group that has Zefiro's pizza
but wait till you see what they
did with the Zefiro's crust
and topped it with some very special things we're going to show that
coming up next some more food items obviously
Marcus Theatres here we're at the Majestic in
Waukesha guys i think that that tomato uh parmesan focaccia bread
is probably my go-to out of these
three right here but we're gonna see what
the next batch looks like when we come back next
Marco thanks sounds great thanks much what
a great i'm impressed that looks delicious yeah
all right guys coming up spooky
and safe we have some hollywood tips and reminders
good morning everybody welcome back to real
Milwaukee having a good time over here with
Sarah, okay, so Halloween is almost here,
but before you go pounding the pavement for trick-or-treating,
there are some safety tips to keep in mind for the big day.
That's right.
And Sarah Rushford from Ebenezer Child Care Centers
is joining us now live as a child expert.
I would call you that.
I think you have a thing or two when it comes to Halloween.
Just a few things, yes.
And making sure the kids can have fun but can do so in a way that's,
you know, safe and all of that.
So we've got to start with costumes.
I think for a lot of kids, they start
thinking about this in, like, July.
Totally.
So, well, they're putting it out literally in July at the start,
so the kids have no choice but to go into it.
But what's really important for families
and the viewers at home to know is picking out the proper costume.
Although our kiddos are all like, eh, I want that.
But there's some things that we need to keep in mind.
Sure.
The first thing that we want to keep in mind is tripping hazards, okay?
You know, the things that have long capes.
What about the little girls that get that dress,
the fairy dress that's like dragging all over, right?
you don't want your little one tripping
and falling and doing all that kind of stuff the
other thing to keep in mind
are these bad boys now i know i've talked about this in the past
and i might be dating myself
but there used to be a time in the 80s when we had full plastic
masks with a pinprick for our eye holes
and there was like nothing to breathe they even handled a
little bit but still even this kind of mask isn't exactly the greatest
because the eyes are not
fully it's kind of closed off a little bit
and the nose can be kind of closed off too okay so
I would advise families to pick more like
these soft options right where the full face is breathable
even look at this cute little guy this is a cute little pumpkin
and you just add there's no mask
right you can add the little top I love baby
Halloween isn't it cute and then for like this
time of year that'll be more warm to be in as opposed
to some other costumes and then even to
your point the other thing that we want to keep
in mind is especially the little ladies who want
their fairy princesses and stuff and although we love
and he's really good with the forecast
Wisconsin's unpredictable right
and sometimes it may not be 75 degrees it might be 40 and raining
yep so you have this but also another alternative
is going with something like where you can
have a costume that you can kind of layer with the longer sleeves
and then you can do mix and match
fun like this gloves gloves right a little kiddie thing
but also to avoid masks all together
use face paint oh that's like like the paint right
so you can paint yeah on those things so
that you can keep your kiddo warm
and safe um but at the same time you know having fun and being
creative with these like
or something like this it's more full coverage like
yeah yeah exactly and Nick that's a really great point you
are highlighting exactly what we want
their kids be wearing on Halloween right
this bright beautiful yellow this black especially
with a lot of municipalities
that are having nighttime trick-or-treat you want bright colors
so that not only can you spot them
but what about all the traffic especially in a high traffic area
you want vehicles and other people to see
the little kiddos running to and from the houses so
you want to stay in line with these brighter colors
and a lot of communities in our area
too don't have sidewalks no they don't good point
my neighborhood doesn't yeah yeah you're right
that's a very good point so they're in the street
so you want to make sure do you recommend those
maybe like it can be kind of a cool accessory as a necklace
or bracelet for kiddos yeah really for
safety reasons exactly yeah so we got the little glow sticks
and then what about these you can even
get them where the little necklaces nice
so they don't even lose them all together um dollar store
you can get these things from the dollar tree
um even like little like tiny little flashlights too
are a really great alternative to help keep them safe
while they're trick-or-treating
in the nighttime or when it's getting dark out you want
to keep them safe so everybody can see
I think I'd throw an AirTag on my kid
if I had one oh that's smart yeah
they are running ahead of you to go to the next house everybody's house
very true very true um okay
so we got to talk about pumpkin carving
Which I did for the first time like five years ago, believe it or not.
What?
I was a grown man when I first, no, we never carved as a kid.
So this will be my second time talking about this.
Awesome.
The first time five years ago.
Okay, well, Donovan, I'm going to introduce you
to something really cool and fun.
Let's hear it.
Oh, I love this.
Did you carve your pumpkin with a knife and having the patterns?
Okay, can we unpack this?
How am I supposed to go through?
Is it going to work, Sarah?
it's just a little like let's just say you're going
to be hours long that's going to be
good news is if you give this to a kid and expect them to carve that
eight hours right right the technology you'll
be good for a while they won't be using technology
but the frustration for both mom
and kiddo is going to be to the nth degree
the good thing about these they're
not sharp they're safe for a kid okay so if you are
really into the old school you want to be creative
and do whatever but that's not necessary okay
sure donovan i have this really cool thing yes
ma'am amazon it's a pumpkin carving kit you know
what this is this is specific
for pumpkins they're cookie cutters okay just for pumpkins can we
kind of heart yeah stab it in there you want
to just like you want to try it will you show
will you walk me through that yeah
so you're gonna you're gonna just um you're gonna put like
make that's a sharp side you're gonna this really easy nick
so you're gonna take this mallet i'll
hold the pumpkin for you okay take the mallet yeah
and now you're gonna pound it in just pound
it in there it's gonna go in hard now you can let go
of your hand okay no you're gonna keep it on
there oh okay because you want the whole thing
to go oh that's what i thought yeah i will say though
you've got a well i don't want to get
a finger done i don't want to um like this is a lot of
work as well don't even get over here okay all
right nick you didn't make a dent what are you
okay you didn't i'm making sure yep that's
the hard side yeah just go ahead pound that buddy
in there, don't be shy, there you go, now keep
pounding go down right there, we go, and now I
gotta get it out, I'm through on the other side here, like stick
my finger, oh you got it, and we
Yeah, so you can't be shy with it, but yeah
And then you have like it just pounds out and then
the really cool thing is the kit does come with the different cookie
cutters so you can see what kind of design out the mouth
and the eyes and stuff like that
Awesome, when you carve your pumpkin, yes
How long did it take you to take the innards out?
It was a good little minute. Did you use like a spoon?
I use a spoon with my former co-worker
at work. This was at a work segment because I had never
done it before, so they were teaching me
In any case, yes, we had a huge spoon
Okay, I'm going to change your life. Check this bad boy out
This thing cleaned. Do you see how clean
this thing is? Within minutes, it
cleaned the inside of that pumpkin. It came with this kit
The whole kit. This actually looks like
a high quality. It is. This is good
Yeah. And it just cleaned the bad boy out and it's less frustration
And for those of us who
are not good and honestly think about with knives
you're trying to carve this stuff out. I know I've
cut myself in the past and we want to keep everybody safe
the adults and the kids. So this
is a great alternative. Amazon, you can get these really easy.
I think it was less than 20 bucks
for the whole kit. Oh, nice. And they clean year
after year after year. When you make egg corn
squash anything oh yeah yeah that's a great idea
and then a mindful of your pumpkins don't use
regular flammable candles you want
to use like tea light candles okay um to avoid flames where
can folks find you or some of your advice
and tips if they need to absolutely at Babies R Childcare.com
we have seven locations we're always growing
our family not only with children and families but
also with staff so come check us out
and one last thing for a reminder of tips after that trick or
treating you want to go through the kiddos candy you want
to look for not only the choking hazards
right for small children these type of candies are choking hazards
but what about when you pull
this out and it's unwrapped oh sadly we're still
in a day where you can't you want to trash out
the things that are unwrapped and not so true
so make sure you go through and don't forget your
candy tax for going through that pulling out
the favorites there it is right so don't forget
my dad get a reward too exactly exactly thank you
you're very welcome all right well come up next
we're going to check back in with brian
cramp he's eating good at marcus theater
welcome back to real milwaukee we
are at the Majestic here uh
Marcus Theatres in Waukesha
this is a Zafiro's pizza box
but inside it's no ordinary pizza my goodness look at this pizza
As we open it up. Oh, right.
I mean, just the sight of that alone makes you want to dig into it.
Now, Marco, you didn't have to do this, but you did
and it's going really well. So tell me what this pizza is called.
Sure. So this is our smash up pizza. Okay.
And we're featuring it as a limited time offering that started
when the Avengers Endgame re-release came out earlier this summer.
And we're going to run it all the way through the end
of the year with Avengers Doomsday. So you can get it
now until the end of the year
and it's kind of a twist on the movie you know
they're they're bringing all
these alternate universes together yeah and so
we're kind of doing the same thing
like what if a burger and a pizza came
together what would it look like
and this is the the fantastic I mean it
smells smells a lot like
a bit yeah it actually you know it smells a lot like a
Big Mac I'm just gonna say that oh right
but that that sauce on there is
underneath all of the ingredients what is that yeah
so this pizza in particular
does not feature our traditional red sauce.
This is actually a garlic parmesan base on the bottom.
I mean, I love the smell of that.
That thing is going to get devoured a little bit later on.
So is this a limited run for the pizza then?
Correct, yes.
So you can get it today through Avengers Doomsday,
which comes out on December 18th.
We'll run it through the end of the year, basically.
So plenty of time to take advantage of it.
I love that you guys are leaning into the movies again, too.
And by the way, some big blockbuster movies
are coming to theaters soon.
And just give me a few that you guys are looking forward to.
Sure.
Well, I mean, it starts this weekend.
There's Street Fighter that's coming out.
I'll play on that very popular video game series.
There's a Cat in the Hat movie that's coming out.
There's a Meet the Parents sequel coming out around Thanksgiving.
And then, you know, everything leads up towards December 18th,
where we've got Dune 3
and Avengers Doomsday coming out on the same exact day.
Fun times.
And you throw a Godzilla movie in the mix there, too.
Absolutely.
All of that.
Let's get to these sliders.
My goodness.
that looks amazing so yeah this is uh
this is actually an interesting thing for us because
depending on the movie the Marcus Theater that you've
been to in the market you may have already
seen these these are our chipotle chicken sliders uh we've offered them
at select locations but as
of today any expanded food
and beverage location you can get these now too so we've we've brought
it everywhere that we do um you know uh expanded food
and beverage and just because of the
popularity we thought it was it
was a slam dunk yeah smart too you know also smart serving a good
cocktail or shall i say a mocktail which one do you have
which one i have this is the watermelon
cooler you've got the mango passion spritz
so for us this is just meeting the customer where they
are you know drinking habits have changed
so it's very refreshing let me say that right away it just
it was like something that was a burst of flavor
um and with no alcohol in there i bet you a lot
of people are gravitating towards
these too yeah yeah absolutely you know drinking habits have
changed so we just need to make sure that we we have all
the offerings that we need to meet the
guests where they are and i think we've achieved
that with these featuring them for the first time
on a menu that's a fun taste
but you guys do have some some other interesting cocktails as well i
just grab that sure real quick i just want
to point out this one right here which immediately
spoke to me the maple and peanut butter cold brew oh yeah
that right tell me about it after a drink
like that i might have to take a nap but seriously inside
though let's not be confused there's
actually a peanut butter whiskey is that correct correct yeah
so that one features screwball peanut
butter whiskey and then Mr. Black which is a cold brew liqueur.
And some of these drinks you might
have had before. Now the dessert.
You have to have a little dessert when it comes to you know a good
solid meal as well and this one I can't believe
that the ice cream hasn't melted yet. What's all
going on with this? So this is our apple blossom crumb cake.
It's a new dessert again as of today
you can get it at your favorite Marcus Theater
and this is just it's a different flavor profile
for us on desserts. You know we've typically been very rich
and indulgent. This is a little bit more
fruit forward with some baked apple wrapped
in a pastry dough folded kind of like an apple like a
blossom or a flower and then a touch of indulgence with some ice cream
and whipped cream i love it
you have to give props to your team yes i mean
because there's a lot that can be done in a movie
theater um that sometimes isn't done
but you guys are doing it yeah you guys are putting together
many of that is seemingly fun you can come here
and grab a meal and not even go to the movie i
mean that's i mean you're going to want
to do it absolutely we'd love that but if you come to this
area because clearly there's space right come
and grab a drink and have a little bite to eat
but also we can order and then take it to our seats
which is the fun part yeah i think that's
you know one of the great parts about what we
do and how we offer the movie going experience now
to guests is you can do it any way you want
so if you want to come in here an hour before your movie
and have some dinner and then go to the show
that's great do the movie and then have some
drinks after do that too
or you know if we've got a big sports game on on the big tv that you
want to come watch you don't even want
to do the movie come do that and hang out in one of our
watch a movie we appreciate you putting real work in
on TV yeah that's a bonus that's well okay
so for the pizza normal pizzas also
when i say normal pizzas i mean Zafiro's pizza there's nothing
normal about Zafiro's pizza
but you have those as well uh you got this one this the smash pizza
bringing that burger and the pizza together
that one goes through the run of that that Marvel
excuse me the Marvel movie Avengers uh Avengers
that's coming up in December when does this
stuff end though is it's just going to be for the season
are you rebooting in '27 or how long can we
expect some of this yeah so we typically will we'll look
at revising our menu once a year right
around this time okay trying to get ahead of the holidays
and make sure that we have all our gaps
covered and you know make any tweaks to existing menu items
so um no these items you know aside
from the pizza which is again only through the run
of Avengers Doomsday you know through the end of
the year yeah everything else that we've presented today
um will be on the menu at least for another
year there you go until this time next year i'm going
to close this box up nice i can take it with
me right i heard you guys in and out about it why
not bring it back to the team put it safe
in the car in the back seat so it doesn't slide
so you all get real walkie only as well marco
thank you congratulations on the roll
on the new menu here marcus theaters majestic out here in
Waukesha guys, yeah, they have a little bit of
everything for all the different flavors
and tastes of your family.
I love the creativity.
And then it cuts out
going to dinner elsewhere before the movie. It's like all
in one spot. It's a good date night
spot. How about that?
Alright, in the meantime, sticking with the movie theme here,
Gina was in Next with an interview on a
documentary that's being called a must-watch.
We'll explain why next.
I'm here
today
to bring a face to the harms
occurring every day
I don't think that we have to have any of the big tech
firms decide how we are going to interact with technology.
I see this as a movement.
It's all a movement.
It is a movement.
You are going to have to decide if you want to fight.
So we're talking about Your Attention, Please.
It's being called a must-see documentary.
The film focuses on the impact of social media
on youth safety and mental health.
So, Gino, you talk with the director
and also a parent advocate who's part of this project.
Yes. And yeah, I believe this is a must see movie.
The the mother is Kristen Bride. She lost her 16 year old son.
She'll tell you what happened. It's just horrible.
And the director is Sarah Robin.
When you make a movie, you want to affect something.
You want to make people think you want to move people.
You certainly have done it with this film.
Thank you. Thank you. That means a lot to hear.
I think with this topic,
so much of what we're wrestling with is it can be so abstract, right?
It's quite invisible.
It's quite difficult to wrap our heads around.
So when we set out to make that film,
and my co-filmer, Jack Lemay, really played a
big part in that, we were always asking,
what's the emotional through line here?
Like, what are we feeling as we talk about this?
And I'm very happy to hear that it resonates.
Yes.
Kristen, I have to talk about you.
You did not set out to become an advocate, to become active as you are.
And you had a horrible tragedy
with your with your beautiful son, Carson.
Yes. In fact, I despise public speaking before this happened.
We lost our son, Carson, in 2020 to suicide after he
was viciously cyber bullied over Snapchat's anonymous apps.
and I had a decision to make, you know,
do I just accept this and cry in bed all day or do I
fight back? And I chose to fight back and I have not regretted it.
Well, I know that he is so proud of you and what you've done.
Sarah, a lot of times we watch a
documentary and it's like, there's no solution,
but there is kind of a solution that is happening
around the world. Can you tell everyone about that?
Yeah. And that was really, you know,
the goal with the film was to start showing these solutions
so that we realize like this is actually
something we can fix we always say technology has been designed
and that means it can be redesigned
and and i'm confident that it will be redesigned
um you know we're seeing extraordinary change
happening um from uh countries banning social media
for under 16 year olds like Australia
um to young people actually saying you know what i don't want
to be on this 24 7 so you see that in
in our film and offline club um but i will say even
in the United States where it may be um you
know once you watch the film it can
be quite frustrating to see that um legislation at the
federal level uh has been stalled
and and you know was had such uh bipartisan support and still
couldn't make it over the finish line
but even here we're seeing a lot of movement on the state
level phones are coming out of schools
um at unprecedented levels most states now have some
kind of um phone free schools legislation
so change is happening and i think at this point
um it's up to us to uh really get involved
and make sure that that change is actually meaningful
and not just uh something on paper you know i love how
the director mentioned obviously that
change is happening not just at the federal level
but the state's level in schools out of schools
uh to that end are you seeing
from the conversation you had with these two women
uh more people broaching such a sensitive subject now
and i'm afraid to tackle that
Well, when you go through a tragedy like that,
you can do something like she said and sit back and just,
you know, never get up out of bed.
But she was active, and there was a bill that was so close
to being passed that would prevent kids from posting anonymously.
This poor boy that took his life,
100 people who were anonymous just were brutal on him.
It's just awful.
But there's a young woman who came up with an app.
She was actually on Shark Tank, and the name of that app is Rethink.
Rethink.
You had me looking it up, actually, because it was interesting.
And she noticed that 93% of kids,
this app will notice if someone's writing something mean and horrible,
it will pause and say, think about this.
Do you really want to send this?
And in 93% of the cases, they did not send the mean message.
Like, it's just, I can't imagine being a young person today,
but, you know, it's two people like
this who are getting this word out there.
So what is that person out there who sees your film?
what can they do so you know i think people often
want like one answer right like this is the thing
you do and then we're good what we're showing
in the film i think is really there's lots of answers
and depending who you are there's different ways to get involved
and i i always want to say never
discredit the small changes um i think you know getting back
into a habit of having spaces that
are unplugged having spaces where we decide you
know what we're going to put the phone down we're
going to be fully present with each other is so important
because we barely get that anymore
in this day and age so I encourage every family
out there bring more offline life into your every
day but also you know write your representatives make
this an election issue we are really at a
point where we need meaningful legislation
to to really enshrine this and not just make this a
patchwork solution that we have in the states right now
but like you know have have a long
lasting change and make these platforms safer
by design um and one thing that we strongly advocate
for is not just banning young people from these apps
but actually working to make these apps safe
not just for young people
but truly for all of us right it affects us adults too
um so let's let's make this an issue
that our lawmakers uh can't afford to ignore
there's this thing made this yeah it's making everybody aware
of how big of an issue and
how detrimental, as we're saying, cyberbullying is.
There's this trend going on around the world
of these parties where kids get come together
and they put their phones away and that for two hours
or three hours, they don't use their phones at all.
I really encourage that. There's no Milwaukee
area chapter. I looked it up, did not see that.
But I know when I hear these suicides of young
people, it breaks my heart because you know what?
We've all had tough times in our lives. But 10
years later you might not even remember what it
was that was so bad you know talk to your family
talk to somebody about it it's just it's not worth it
not only taking your own life but the pain that
you leave for those who are left behind this movie is really special
and i really encourage people to
see it i think this movie too is going to resonate with a lot of people
because i think parents are
really going through it right now in terms of how
do they manage all of this when we were growing up
You know, it was like other kids, other parents,
but those kids and those parents had a name.
And so now when you have this force that is social media that has
that is faceless and nameless, it's just it's it's hard to take on.
Right. We were there was bullying
when I went to school, but it was face to face.
Now it's anonymous. And when it comes at like,
you know, that poor kid getting 100 messages,
he left the sweetest message about that.
He was starting a job at Papa John's.
And you know what? I'll make a pizza for you. And he got brutalized.
that's wrong you know this has to get fixed
and i'm really hopeful this movie might help get that
change it reminds me that you know talking about
this topic uh this is why my parents like required
my sister and brother and i to give them
their our passwords to social media it wasn't something
they could just like i don't know ruin our lives
as we thought of young people but they want to see
what other people are doing
and if they need to intervene how can they do so what help do they
need to provide should that become the case
but that is exactly why my parents had all of our
passwords growing up because of social media yeah you gotta tell
your kids to step up yes you do
yes exactly that's right
and that rethink app if in 93 percent of the cases kids did not send that mean
message that's pretty effective you know give
that a try just making you forcing you to pause
and say do i really know what exactly exactly
and just you know i broke down crying and i'm close
to it now because that kid
had this innocent, beautiful
face and was brutalized
and it's like, why would you
want to do that to someone?
Think about what you're doing.
Being a teen is tough.
To be compounded with a troll
is horrible, so it's understandable.
Thank you.
We'll be right back.
We're going to end on a sweet
note here. Take a look at the newest
edition to the Racine Zoo. You guys know I love the
Racine Zoo, and now we have another little reason to love it.
Meet this new baby zebra, which I would call it by its name,
but it doesn't have one yet.
And that's where you come in.
So this zoo has welcomed this healthy baby zebra on Monday.
It is a girl.
And the zoo has a list of three names that they are considering,
but they want your help before they make a decision.
So the names are as follows.
Truth, Penny, and Dolly.
Dolly.
After Dolly Parton.
I know.
I think Dolly's going to win.
You can vote for your favorite on the Racine Zoo Facebook page.
Earlier, Haley and I said we were all in on Dolly.
Are you guys Dolly?
Dolly for sure.
And she looks like a doll.
I think so as well.
She doesn't look like a Ruth or a Penny.
No, not at all.
And absolutely adorable, though, right?
Zebra baby.
Zebras are cute, but look at that one.
That's even cuter.
They have all their stripes when they're born.
Because some animals look really different
as babies than when they grow up.
Yeah.
Oh, that's going to be awesome.
Precious.
Well, Dolly for baby.
Right.
Dolly for Zebra.
