Queenstown
Join me for a beautiful winter walking tour through Queenstown, New Zealand, filmed in August 2026 on a gorgeous sunny winter day. The sky is bright and blue with a few soft clouds, while the snow-capped mountains surrounding Queenstown create an incredible alpine backdrop.

Our walk begins in the heart of the town at Queenstown Mall on Ballarat Street, before heading directly toward the Queenstown waterfront and Lake Whakatipu. From there, we stroll along the lakeside and explore the streets of the town centre, taking in Queenstown’s lively atmosphere, restaurants, cafés, food stalls, shops, and the many visitors enjoying this beautiful winter day.

One of the highlights of this walk is the waterfront itself. People are sitting along the lake, enjoying the sunshine and taking in the spectacular views across the crystal-clear blue water. The combination of the lake, snow-covered mountains, historic buildings, restaurants, and busy streets gives Queenstown a wonderful sense of energy and life even in the middle of winter.

During the walk, we also get to see the iconic TSS Earnslaw, Queenstown’s famous vintage steamship, cruising across Lake Whakatipu. It has just returned from a cruise toward Walter Peak, and later, as our walking tour comes to an end, we see the Earnslaw head out onto the lake again toward Walter Peak, gradually becoming smaller as it cruises into the distance.

Queenstown sits on the shores of Lake Whakatipu, surrounded by dramatic alpine landscapes and the Southern Alps. The town is renowned around the world for its spectacular scenery, outdoor activities, food and wine, and year-round tourism. It is also known as the Adventure Capital of the World, with a long history of pioneering activities such as bungy jumping, jet boating, skiing, hiking, and many other outdoor adventures.

Winter is a particularly beautiful time to experience Queenstown. The surrounding mountains are often covered with snow, the air is crisp and clear, and on a sunny day the combination of brilliant blue water, alpine peaks, and the lively town centre is simply unforgettable. Queenstown's official tourism organisation describes the town as a four-season alpine destination, with winter offering skiing, snowboarding, sightseeing, dining, and many other experiences.

If you enjoy walking tours, New Zealand scenery, winter landscapes, lakeside towns, and relaxing travel videos, I hope you enjoy this journey through beautiful Queenstown.
