Mark Carney Says Canada Is 'Worth Fighting For' Ahead of Alberta's Separation Vote on Oct 19 | APT

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has urged national unity in a Thanksgiving message, declaring that Canada is “worth fighting for” one week before Alberta votes on whether to remain in the country or begin the legal process for a future separation referendum.
Speaking from St. Francis Xavier High School in Edmonton, where he studied growing up in Alberta, Carney highlighted federal projects including new homes, high-speed rail and a proposed pipeline to Canada's West Coast.
He warned that Canada could not achieve its ambitions if divided, arguing that the country faces real threats to its economy, security and way of life.
“You can't build big things on fault lines,” Carney said, adding that Canadians are “stronger together.”
On October 19, Albertans will vote on whether the province should remain part of Canada or whether its government should begin the constitutional process required to hold a future binding referendum on separation. The upcoming vote will not itself decide whether Alberta becomes independent.
Carney's message comes amid renewed debate over Alberta's future and the province's relationship with the federal government.
