South Georgia Island: Where Wildlife & History Collide | Jason Harbor | Ocean Harbor | Part 1

#antarctica #explore #southgeorgiaisland
South Georgia is not only a remote wildlife paradise, but it's rugged coastline also carries the haunting remnants of the island's sealing and whaling eras that stand as distant reminders of a chapter in it's history. South Georgia is also forever linked to legendary explorer Ernest Shackleton. He and his men miraculously survived and made it to South Georgia after his ship got crushed in the ice in Antarctica.
We spent 16 days aboard the SH Vega expedition cruise ship. After spending time in Antarctica, we cruised by Elephant Island, and on to South Georgia. On the shores of Jason Harbor and Ocean Harbor, we experienced unforgettable encounters with thousands of fur seals, elephant seals, and king penguins. We visited an old whaling station and saw some of the equipment they used, and learned that reindeer roamed here for 100 years and they were only recently taken out. This is a place of raw beauty, adventure, and incredible wildlife! Join us as we explore this untouched and unforgettable, amazing place that God has created.
